I don't "hook" the fish with them (i.e. punch a hole through their jaw), rather I "hang" the fish by carefully sliding the hook along side the gills (right along the body of the fish so you NEVER touch the gills), and then up under the jaw. That way, you never touch the gills nor poke a hole in the fish. No harm, no foul.

So... I'd disconnect everything from the TV except the power first, and try it. If it turns off the TV, then run an extension cord to the kitchen, bathroom, whatever-is-on-a-different-breaker-than-the-chair and plug the TV into that. Then try again. If it still does it, then it's RF interference. Something isn't shielded correctly in the chair motor. If at any point before that it stops turning the TV off, then it's a power issue with the chair motor. Either way, I'd replace the chair motor.

Goodness, I can't remember all the shows I watched. I rarely miss fish on frogs and toads. Took me awhile to re-train myself on hooksets in order to improve, because it's easier said than done. But you really have to ignore the strike, and instead do nothing until you feel the fish TUGGING on your line. THEN lay into 'em! Here's my frog fishing video where's there's several catches caught on film. The link starts the video at one of the catches. You can see how long I wait after the strike until I set the hook. I then go into more detail about the hookset, because you're dealing with thick, heavy hooks.
