  2. Guess who's featured in this video? Yup, our very own J Francho!
  3. There's already a topic running on this, so let's continue the conversation there.
  4. This is what Keri and I do when the fishing slows down...
  5. Who's doing the buying? I'd love to know, because as a member of the media, I get to vote. And nobody has ever tried to "buy" or otherwise influence my voting. If somebody's doling out dough, I'd like to find out who so I can sign up! On a more serious note, everyone at ICAST - and in particular small business owners - are VERY proud of their products. If you talk to them, they are very passionate and obsessed about their company and its products, and truly believe what they are offering will completely change the fishing industry forever. They believe in their hearts, their stuff is the most unique and amazing products the world has ever seen....and is therefore a natural shoe-in for winning "Best of ICAST". In their eyes, there is no other reasonable outcome. When their lofty expectations aren't meant, then in their eyes, there's no other reason than a conspiracy at work. Hence the rumors of "buying" votes, or that everything is "political", yadda yadda yadda. That said, I do believe some things win when they shouldn't....mainly because there's nothing else better competing in their category. A new color of the same bait is not worthy of an ICAST award, but it happens sometimes. SMH LOL! Add to it "revolutionary", "amazing", and "innovative" - words liberally used in just about every ICAST press release every year. LOL!
  6. A mildly offensive comment. I trust you're not a tournament angler, hence the jab. Truth is, nobody wants to fish to die after they release it. So let's get that out of the way now. In fact, many states will shut down a tournament if the mortality rate exceeds 10%. And will ban an organization for repeated violations. This often includes post-release mortality as well.
  7. All work if they're done right. However, there's a risk of injuring them - even killing them - if you make a mistake. The techniques, from safest to most risky (and potentially lethal) are: 1. Weights on the bottom fin 2. Going through the side 3. Going through the mouth For this reason, I never recommend the 3rd method. There's a 4th method too, but you need to be more prepared, and that is using a weighted clothes basket. Invert it, tie a long rope to it (at least 40'), and tie some weights to it so they hang off the rim. Add bass and lower the basket quickly. It will drop him to the depths where he can swim away safely on his own. Or, at least that the theory.
  8. Tatsu, hands down. There is no comparison. Seaguar invented fluorocarbon fishing line, and their expertise is showcased in Tatsu. It's very manageable, easy to cast, no memory, and abrasion resistant. I'm a big fan of it. That said, I know it's expensive, so I can't spool it on all my reels. I use it primarily for senkos and finesse fishing. But when I'm flipping/pitching, I'll use AbrazX instead. Again, very subtle, and no line memory similar to Tatsu, but even better abrasion resistance, plus it costs less. Really... if you're going fluorocarbon fishing line, go with the guys who not only invented it, but are the only ones who make the fluorocarbon resins themselves, strictly for fishing. No other company does that.
  9. I use Plano 3700's. I've tried other brands, but I had problems with hinges breaking, lids warping, discoloration, etc. But the Plano's always held up to heavy use. They're rugged and durable, and end up saving me money over the long run because I don't have to replace them every few years.

  12. I also have the Epixor spinning reel and I gotta say I'm impressed with it. Smooth reeling, long casts, and a great drag system. I'm really happy with it, and even more impressed with the low price!
  13. Brand new type of video for us. Hope you enjoy it!
  14. This is a question I get a lot. Odd that nobody has commented on this thread.
  15. Here's exactly how to know when to change lures, how long to fish lures, or when to give up on a lure. Expert advice to help you with the best decisions!
  16. I always sharpen my hooks - even brand new, never used before hooks. I can sharpen dull hooks back to better-than-new. No need to waste 'em and throw them away. Only reason I break out a new hook is either when I lose one or it gets bent. Here's how I sharpen them:
