Bob Lusk on National Radio
Everyone, I got an e-mail from my good friend Bob Lusk (he's a highly acclaimed warmwater biologist and private lake manager). He will be on Alan Warren's radio show. His website is http://www.alanwarrenoutdoors.com. He wants to talk about pond management in the morning, early on his radio show. Go to Alan's website and click on "Radio" at the top tool bar and you'll see the instructions. His show goes from 5:00 to 7:00 a.m. He's asked Bob to call in at 6:20 CST. Alan will have several copies of Outdoor TV Classic DVDs that he plans to give away to callers. The phone number is on his website. Who's in? Disclaimer: I am in on way whatsoever affiliated with Alan Warren Outdoors, nor am I paid by him in any way shape or form. Same goes with Bob, other than he's a great friend and mentor.

Your Free Phone Cost $240
With the T-Mobile plan, you get unlimited calling, text, and data to eveything all the time (not just a calling circle, or mobile-to-mobile). It's unlimited everything. No need for "rollover minutes" - it's unlimited every month. You get unlimited calling to any number, land or mobile. Unlimited texting, unlimited browsing, all for the same price every month. No more surprises in your bills. You get 2 options with your T-Mobile plan: unsubsidized and subsidized. Meaning you can pay for your phone upfront (or over 20 months interest free), or get a free phone (or cheaper phone). I suggest going to a T-Mobile store near you to get the full details, and compare it with your current plan. You'll see you will save a LOT of money. Just trying to help you guys save some dough!

Your Free Phone Cost $240
Read through that article carefully. You'll note that T-Mobile is NOT doing this; and is offering NO-CONTRACT rate plans at HALF the cost of the other carriers. To quote: So please don't lump T-Mobile in with the other carriers. You have a choice.

whats the best type of line
I tried Fireline and didn't like it. It peformed "as advertised", but I couldn't see where it entered the water when wearing polarized glasses! It drove me batty, as I'm a line watcher. Asking "what's the best line" is like asking "what's the best car"; you're going to get all kinds of conflicting responses. If you're looking to try out different lines, maybe you should ask "which line do you use and why?" From the responses given, you could figure out a few different lines to try. Ultimately, line choice is a personal preference. So try out a few and decide what suits you best. Good luck!

History of tournaments
Ya, sorry guys. There's a bass club located in Seattle that was established in 1938, and is recognized as the "oldest chartered bass club in the United States". Dues were $1 per year to cover postcard postage. Soon afterward its ***, they started having "fishing derbies". Fishing derbies always started at noon on a selected Saturday in spring, usually in May, and they ended at noon on Sunday. There were no restrictions on pre-fishing, so most of the participants would drive down Friday, fish that evening and next morning, and then start the real action at noon. The winner was the one who caught the biggest bass - not the heaviest total weight, as is customary in club tournaments today. The big bass were taken to the scales and, sometimes, to the taxidermist; small ones went directly to the frying pan. Sunday fishing could start anytime after midnight, if contestants were so inclined, but most would try night fishing once, and then opt for the extra hours of sleep. Rules apparently were rigidly enforced. According to an anecdote from the club's historical records, one member had just gotten a new fly rod the day before a bass derby and decided to try it out the morning of the contest. He came back to the dock 15 minutes before start time with an 8 1/2-pounder. The bass would have won first place, but the angler caught it a bit too soon. There were no livewells in the boats, of course - just stringers - and no penalties for dead fish. One of the few regulations that they did establish was the strict prohibition on the use of any form of live bait. This was quite a revolutionary restriction back then, and there was some grumbling about it, but the club stuck with it all the way. It was easy getting valuable donations for the contest prizes. Being perhaps the only bass club writing to the manufacturers, distributors and retailers, the club collected piles of booty. One year, Johnson sent a new 5-horsepower motor. Shakespeare provided new reels, as did Pflueger. Heddon provided the company's finest rods. And Creek Chub sent dozen-packs of baits, while Martin, a local tackle maker, always sent packs of baits to the contest chairman. I don't recall the specific date of the first "derby", but I know it was in the first year of existence, 1938. Ray Scott is known as the founder of professional bass tournaments. Even though there may have been large and lucrative tournaments before then, he is known for turning it into a sport where anglers can make a career out of it. Hope that helps!

My Personal Best!!!
Hey guys, when it comes to public water on large bodies of water, catch and release is an absolute MUST. Conversely, when it comes to private, small pond management, selective harvest is an absolute MUST. Please do not get the two confused.

What can a 6'3" spinning rod be used for?
I'd definitely use it for skipping. Also good for pitching into tight spots, as well as open water using anything that will fit on an open-hook jighead (less than 1/4 oz). It's pretty versatile, but I wouldn't use it for splitshotting or dropshotting.

Does anyone remember/know the name of...

How bout them Cowboys!!!!!!
I think you're right Scott. That's why it's such a joke!

How bout them Cowboys!!!!!!
"America's Team"? HAHHAHAHAHA-HAAARDLY!!!! But seriously, I get sick of having this team shoved down our throats year-after-year, even though they can't win a single playoff game for the life of them. I mean, I really don't like Pittsburgh either, but I can understand seeing them in the limelight, being the reigning champs and all. But a team that consistently loses when the pressure is on? That makes about as much sense as showcasing Oakland on Sunday/Monday night football every other week! (Sorry Scott) It's really hard to understand how such an under-performing team (in terms of playoffs) can be showcased so often on national TV. They must have one heck of a PR team or something, because I'm just not seeing it. I think Gone_Phishin is right. It's essentially lack of intelligence and creativity on the TV exec's part.
-
How bout them Cowboys!!!!!!
There's 9 other teams that have the same record - or better - than them right now. So why then do they get so much TV air time on Monday night and Sunday night football? They're not that good! They haven't won a playoff game in how many years? Yet they get much more national TV games than the other teams. THAT'S over-hyped!

Roll em' up...
Ok guys, one last warning - this thread IS NOT to debate about the pros/cons over medicinal uses of marajuana! So, don't even start. I've already deleted several posts that were about that. We're NOT going there, period! >

Hey RW!
If nothing else, Denver has demonstrated some promise of things to come. I expect them to get better and better each season. So they're definitely a team to watch out for. My Seahawks on the other hand....put a fork in 'em. They're done!

How bout them Cowboys!!!!!!
I was delighted to see the over-hyped Cowboys take a beating! That was FUN!!

New England Patriots....
Ok guys, lighten up, or I'll have to make you kiss and make up. *EWE!* I'm not a fan of either team, but I dislike the Pats moreso than the Bolts. So I gotta say I enjoyed last night's game.

Roll em' up...
Let's keep the politics out of this one guys - no debating here on this. The above is a place for medical users only (they must show proof). Medical uses are legal in that state, so everything is on the up-and-up. True, it may seem odd to some of you, but the times they are a changin'.

New to Pond managment and need some help
Oh my goodness, there's no one way to answer this. There's no "silver bullet" answer. It depends heavily on your pond (size, structure, current population, climate, fertility, etc, etc, etc,). In essence, the answer is "it depends". That said, you're asking the right questions. The best advice I can give you is to educate yourself as much as possible. Start by reading these articles: http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/about.html#fish Enjoy!
