Post a picture of your tacklebox!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL!! You guys crack me up. Yes, it still looks that way, and no, I didn't clean it up for the picture. You may note other details, however, besides the floor. I also textured and painted the walls, added hanging decorator light fixtures, and installed molding (baseboards) all around. The garage is also insulated and heated, and I have cable hookup in the far corner near the ceiling - future home of a TV. I also have a hookup for a refrigerator. I'm known in the neighborhood as "The house with The Garage". LOL!

Radio Hosts Are Not Politicians
The thread about Imus wasn't about politics or religion. It falls under the rules of conduct here. Read the FAQs regarding the rules of conduct. Ok guys, this is getting ridiculous. I'm not going to even attempt to explain or define every possible nuance to what is and isn't religious or politics. There's just too many variables. Bottom line - if the thread is disruptive, disrespective, deragotory or declines into an endless argument over who's right and who's wrong, or is full of negativity, or is a sales-pitch, it's subject to action by the mods. This is just an example, and not inclusive. Read the FAQs. EVERYTHING is reviewed here, and as you can tell, usually no action is taken. So the field is pretty wide open.

Post a picture of your tacklebox!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mine - boat is filled with 50+ pounds of tackle, including 25 rods between the wife and I. Those shelves in the back are full of "extras" (there's shelves directly on the opposite wall too) - enough lures to last a very long time! OY!

Whats up with Mr Hannon?
He's been on the road doing seminars and shows, so it's been difficult to track him down. However, I think his schedule is slowing down again, so he'll be back on shortly.

Radio Hosts Are Not Politicians
Who said you couldn't debate? Debate all you want. But when a thread turns into generalized, deragotry racial remarks and slurs, it's not debating any more. That thread was headed in that direction. RW had the foresight to catch it before it got that far. The politics/religious posts ALWAYS turn into heated arguments and angry name calling. ALWAYS, without fail. We tried to allow them, really we did, and tried to moderate, edit, police, and control the outbursts, but to no avail. There's just no way to avoid the pending explosion. People are just too passionate about these 2 topics. So... no more.

Radio Hosts Are Not Politicians
Hi Cephkiller, I appreciate your honesty. You're correct, the post about Imus wasn't a political/religious thread. RW catagorized it wrong. That said, it had the potential to explode into an ugly thread very quickly. The post you made before was fine, but the discussion that followed almost immediately turned into racial divides and differences, making it a very touchy subject. It hadn't turned ugly...yet. All it takes is one person making a "Joke" and another person missing the humor and then the whole thing escalates very quickly. Ironically, that's exactly what happened to Imus. RW had the foresight to see this potentially explosive situation, and so he did what he needed to do in order to diffuse it. "What RW did to me today... " Let me make it clear - this was not directed at you. It wasn't the initial post you made, but rather the direction the thread was headed that prompted a response. It wasn't censorship, or some devious diabolical manuever to thwart any discussion about Imus. It was a response to diffuse an explosive situation before it erupted. It's important to note the moderators and I often walk a thin line. We're like police officers sometimes. If we wait until things boil over and erupt, we're critisized for waiting too long. If we take proactive measures to prevent things from erupting, the response is often, "What the ???? What did I do wrong?!!! You're overracting!" RW took preventative measures, so your response was the latter. If he waited for it to erupt, it would have taken more work and effort for all the mods and I to clean it up, and we probably would have lost a member or two in the process. And then there's the PM's, e-mails, and phone calls I would have had do deal with. It can be very time-consuming and distracting to fix a problem and settle disputes. Taking preventative measures, while seemingly premature and harsh, is often the better choice between two difficult situations. Actually with as many members as we have here with ton's of posts, it's hard to believe that there aren't too many problems. That's a tribute to the members here, as well as the mods. We're very fortunate.

Please Be Thinking of Lane and Family
I just got an update from Lane, It seems she is the ONLY one in her family that has remained healthy! About the time I posted this thread, Tony (her husband) had to have a surgical procedure to remove internal polyps from his colon. He had been in pain for several weeks. He is doing great now. Tony's son has recovered from a serious viral infection in the small intestine. He responded to the various medications, and did not require surgery. Her mother is still not doing well. She may have had a mini stroke. Her cardiologist has changed her medication to address the congestive heart failure, which is treatable but not curable. She has finally agreed to move down near Lane, but it's an enormous task finding a place, moving her, etc. And, as you might imagine, it isn't helping her mother's spirit having to move away from friends and familiar places. So this is a difficult time for Lane and her family. On the bright side, Tony just completed a run of the NEW formula of Catch and Release. On top of the health issues they still have a business to run, and research is ongoing. The new Catch and Release formula contains FDA approved disinfectants that are safe for the fish and humans. In fact both of the disinfectants kill the serious viruses like the new VHS that is quickly spreading, and the LMBV. The results from the new tranquilizer in the current Catch and Release formula have been amazing! The immune response in the fish has been outstanding. Also, the new formula removes ammonia from the livewell, so anglers do not need to flush their livewells every two to three hours. They have also increased the amount of chelators that remove heavy metals and toxins from the fishes system. Heavy metals like mercury levels in the fish continue to rise at an alarming rate. We have really polluted our waters, and these toxins are affecting growth and reproductive rates in the fish. The new formula will not be available to the public until late summer, and it will be more expensive than the current formula. The increased cost should justified, since anglers will not have to flush the livewell as often or at all. Less product will be needed. Lane wanted me to tell everyone, "We really appreciate the concern and prayers, it has been very rough! AND I REALLY MISS THE FORUM AND HAVE PLANS TO BE BACK BY MAY!"

Speeding up the site, what can we do?
Hi folks, Sounds like we have 2 topics being discussed here, and they ARE NOT related. Let me explain... The issue with the speed of the forums has everything to do with the YaBB software and nothing to do with the server, or bandwidth. How do I know? Because a few months ago I upgraded the site to a dedicated server with a very fast processor and loads of bandwidth. I also discovered a conflict between the server and YaBB software, which I corrected. It helped, but.... The real issue is that YaBB is a Perl-based program that uses flat files. Perl is an "old-school" code language that isn't built for high volumes of "transactions". YaBB uses flat files (massive text files), not a database such as SQL. This means every click requires Perl to run to the files and do a bunch of calculations. In fact, during high-peak periods, the server is running well within specs since the upgrade. It's the forum program (YaBB) that can't keep up. I'm not going to get into it all here, but the bottom line is that YaBB isn't built to handle the volume of members we have today. In short, we're a victim of our own popularity. The fix? Either wait until YaBB 3.0 ocmes out, which will be pHp-based and uses a SQL database (i.e. MUCH faster and can handle anything we throw at it), or move to another forum software platform altogether. If we move to a new platform, we may lose some or all the posts, member profiles, features, spam filters, etc. while gaining speed and other features. If we wait, well.... we stuggle with the speed issues until 3.0 comes out. So far, a date hasn't been announced for that release. Judging on past experience, this means we're probably 6-12 months away. Soo.... money won't solve the speed issue. That said... Running a site like this does cost a chunk of change, and the bandwidth/diskspace needs keep expanding, so costs continue to increase. I'm flattered you want to contribute and help out, that's very gracious and kind. As you can see, it's a bit tricky setting something like that up - that's sustainable. One-time donations, while helpful, can only go so far. But as noted, subscription-based systems usually require some sort of "designation" in order to track when the subscription renewal is due - even if the subscriptions are voluntary and not mandated, you still need a certain amount of book keeping. While this means more work, my wife has volunteered to cover that part. Of course, that means getting another computer and configuring it so she can work and not interupt my work. Not a huge issue, but I'm just pointing out that nothing is a simple as it seems. Plus, as pointed out, designating subscribers could be an issue. One way you can help out now, is by purchasing items in the store!

Political & Reglious Posts
Hey Muddy, Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it. To clarify: Keep in mind that rule #2 doesn't say, "fishing topics only". It implies, "remember what we're here for, so off topics, while not forbidden and are in fact welcome, are subject to editorial review." Make sense?

MOOK SIDE OF THE SAGA 100% The Truth
Did we mention this all happened on the same day, on the same trip?! Keri and I should've known better right from the start. You see, to get out of the cove from the marina, you need to "serpentine" your way out. You do this by following the bouys. When you get to one bouy, you point your boat at the next one, and so on until you get where you want to go. Keri and I were fishing near the mouth of the cove in a stump field when here they come, heading towards the first bouy. They get up to it. They go by it. They keep going straight, headed into the stump field!! ON PLANE!! I'm waving my arms, yelling "Woa! WOA!!! SLOW DOWN!!" So what do they do? "Oh look, Glenn wants to talk to us. Let's head over there!" and head towards us STILL ON PLANE!! How they haven't hit anything by now is beyond me. By now I'm waving and motioning with my arms to slow it down, and yelling at them to STOP!!! Well they understood that! and stop and coast over to us. So then I tell them about the bouys. I tell you what, what happened next was like an Archie and Edith episode. Dominick yells at Don, "See, I TOLD you to follow the bouys!" and Ron is yelling, "I was! I Was!" "No you weren't!" (with a backhand to the shoulder) "We should be out there!" (pointing towards the next bouy) "That's were I was gonna go!" (as he revs up the engine and starts heading over) "SLOW DOWN UNTIL WE GET THERE!" "I am! I am!" as they motor away. Keri turns to me as says, "Should we be worried about them?" and the fool I am says, "Naw, they'll be alright. They got it figured out now." DOH!
