Catt - do you honestly believe he meant that, or....?? Even if he did, what does it matter? Let's keep this thread from getting personal, guys. People get defensive, then aggressive. Seen it happen too many times before. Keep your eye on the ball and focus on the topic at hand instead.

Having just spent 2 weekends in a row dealing with 25-35mph winds in open water, I can tell you this: Going agains the wind is easier. It's simply a matter of slowing down a little and trimming down a tad. Let the "V" part of the hull do the work for you. Hitting them "head on" is fine, so long as the waves are 3' and under. If they're 4-6', then you're going to have to come off plane and get that bow up. Again, let it do the work for you. 7' waves or more will require the angled attack previously mentioned. Going with the wind is a little tougher. A hot foot pedal is best for this, because you'll need to "goose" the throttle a bit on the big waves. The bigger ones usually come in "threes". The trick is to trim up, slow down, and "hop" the waves. You do this by giving it a little gas as you climb up the backside of a big wave (the amount of "goosing" you give it will depend on the conditions and boat weight. Experience will teach you.). You'll "hop" over it, and keep the bow up at the same time. Don't goose it, and your nose will come down, skip across the 2nd wave, come down further as you go over it, and spear the 3rd. (don't ask me how I know this!). This works well for waves up to 5'-6'. Anything bigger and you'll need to approach at an angle. Note - any time you approach at an angle you're apt to get wet, no matter what kind of boat you have. That said, using the techniques above have kept me very dry in my Ranger 520. Of course, Rangers are built for this kind of stuff in the first place, so I'm kind of cheating.

All, Over the Memorial Day weekend, it was my distinct honor and privilege to present to Clay the distinguished Mojo Ring on behalf of all of you. Clay was the guest speaker at a state bass competition, where he spoke to over 100 anglers. At the end of his inspirational and motivating speech, I presented him the key chain that all of you worked so hard to pack with "Mojo" and well wishes. Let me tell you something, folks - it was WELL WORTH IT! It brought Clay to tears when he realized everything YOU did to show him how much you appreciate everything he does, and what an inspiration he is to you. It also brought a HUGE round of cheers and applause from the audience! What a great story - it brought many to tears. I recieved many "kudos" and positive comments about everything all of you did, and especially what Russ did, to orchestrate the whole thing. Clay is an exceptional individual well deserving of the Mojo Ring. It was great to meet him - I wish all of you can meet him someday, because YOU DID IT!! Clay said that he will carry this in his boat glove box so that it's with him wherever he goes. It truly moved him and means a lot to him. Y'all are fantastic!! Congratulations!

This is a fairly common problem, but the answers aren't so easy. Each situation has its own unique characteristics. Removing the crappie and grass carp could be helpful, as well as restocking and feeding bass afterwards. But exactly how much to do, and when, as well as what habitat enhancements should be made first, are the real key to success. Education is the key here. There's a lot of misconceptions thrown around here. For instance, 100% C&R, while noble, is actually much more detrimental to a fishery than sound selective harvest practices. I HIGHLY encourage everyone here to read through the articles here on BassResource.com and overcome the emotions associated with harvesting a fish. Replace your opinions with sound, scientific facts so that you can better arm yourself for debates such as these in the future. Besides, the better educated we are about lake management, the better off the fish will be! Glenn

Why on earth would you think this would get deleted? I'm a little offended by that assumption. Moved? Yes. You had it in a fishing section, and this is not a fishing topic. So... if you felt it was going to get moved, then why not post it in a place where you felt is should've been in the first place? It seems you're trying to make the mods and I the "bad guys" for correcting your misplacement.

This is incorrect. The exact opposite it true. Wounds on fish will clot under water faster than in air. It's how nature works. Otherwise all naturally wounded fish would bleed to death. Also, although not mentioned here, do not revive a bass by moving him back-n-forth in the water. The gills are designed to handle water intake one way - when the bass is moving forward. Moving him backwards may in fact damage the gills. So move him in a circle in a forwards direction instead.

The thread wasn't/hasn't been closed. I merely stated it was getting repetitive, so it's either time to move on, or add something that hasn't already been said. In addition, the thread is starting to move in a tangent about FLW tournaments. That new topic should be handled via a new thread. So... when a thread starts to lose traction, wanders, gets repetitive, etc. then the mods and I will jump in to either kick-start it, keep the conversation focused and on track, or let it die a natural death.

Ok guys, the same things are getting repeated over and over here. So let's move on. fyi - there's a ton of articles on this site in the "about bass" section regarding limits, selective harvest, keeping bass vs. release, etc. etc. Great insight on how it all works together to make a very healthy fishery.
