  1. An aerator combined with Please Release Me is much better. You said you're using frozen water bottles. Good for you! Using straight ice is bad because the water contains chlorine and other chemicals, which is harmful to the bass. So it's good you're using something that doesn't introduce harmful chemicals. That said, be sure you only lower the temp NO MORE than 10 degrees less than the lake temperature. You can put the bass into shock if you go any more than that. A simple pool thermometer will help you out there. And don't use ice unless the water temp is over 70 degrees, as it's not beneficial to use it at lower temperatures. Hope that helps!

I just passed a kidney stone a few weeks ago. I can attest it is the WORST pain I have ever felt! So I can sympathize. Fortunately, the hospital was able to give me some powerful pain meds. That plus a ton of water enabled me to pass it. A follow-up with the urologist taught me a few things, like coffee and dark green vegetables are bad if not done in moderation. Drink lots of water - Gatorade type drinks aren't that good for you because of all the sodium, and soda pop is just as bad. Stay clear of mocha's and go easy on the chocolate. Water, water, water. Drink lots of it. He told me I should be passing about 2 litres of fluids per day!

  4. Agreed. Let's keep it on topic please. >
  5. Boaters' World is where I got it. I don't know if they have it in their online store. I actually went into a retail store and got it there. I've seen it at small local marine shops too, so look in your favorite shop, or let your fingers do the walking. Chances are they'll special order it if they don't have it on the shelves. Best 10 bucks I ever spent.
  6. Good posts. It's great to see more and more anglers understanding how selective harvest works, and why taking home the occassional legal limit is beneficial to a fishery. This is absolutely incorrect. A fish acting this way is severely stressed out. Lactic acid, endorphines and other chemicals are at high levels at this moment. These levels are lethal over a prolonged period of time. In addition, his need for oxygen has greatly increased. This fish is dying! You want a calm, relaxed fish. Upright, slowly moving their fins... just "hanging out". "Catch & Release" formula contains a mild sedative that calms the fish and reduces stress, thus decreasing post mortality. Sure, the fish will probably "freak" when you touch him, but he shouldn't be "hot racing" around the livewell simply by opening the lid and looking in. I use the culling clips on my bass. When I'm ready to bring them to the weigh-in, I grab the tag and quickly get them into my bag - no chasing around trying to grab them. This helps minimize the stress during weigh-in. Anyway... I digress. Good posts all around. Again, selective harvest works. Use it. Read more about it in the "About Bass" section of this website. Cheers, Glenn
  7. This has been covered HEAVILY in FAQ.
  8. Do NOT use JB weld! It's becomes ridgid, and aluminum flexes. You'll end up weakening the aluminum AROUND the JB weld as the hull flexes, and eventually it will split around it. Use Sikaflex 292 instead. It's awesome stuff that seals to perfection, yet is still flexible enough that it won't damage your hull. Used it on my aluminum boat (when I had one) to stop leaks and never had to worry about it again.
  9. Sorry, but for images in your sig, the maximum size limit is 420p wide by 60p high. Images exceeding this limit will be removed.
  10. NEVER stick your fingers in the gills!

Ever imagined a world without hypothetical situations?
  12. Several problems here that are working in concert to cause your problems. 1. You're using bleach to clean out your livewells! That's extremely toxic to bass, even in very low concentrations. Read this article to learn how to properly clean your livewell. And stop using bleach! 2. Are you using Rejuvinade? If so, stop immediately! That stuff kills bass, period. It contains chemicals that stimulate bass. Yes, stimulate. Exactly opposite of what you want to do to a stress-out fish! If it doesn't die in your livewell, it will soon die after the weigh-in. Use "Please Release Me" instead - a far superior product that works! 3. Please remember that while oxygen is vital, it is not the only requirement to keep fish alive and healthy. Stop using the oxygenator. An aerator combined with Please Release Me is much better. 4. You said you're using frozen water bottles. Good for you! 13. ...or, click their banner ad on this site to go to BPS, and then purchase online. When you do that, you're also supporting BassResource.com. A win-win combination!
  14. Never seen it before? Perhaps you missed my review of the ICAST show, which includes the Carrot Stix. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/icast_2007.html Robert - doesn't surprise me you're getting one. Let us know what you think!
  15. I believe the question was about Powell rods. Let's not hijack the thread.
  16. I need to make something really, really clear here, as a few people have completely misunderstood this thread: Nobody on this thread is in no way whatsoever attempting to minimize the very real threat of terrorism - either on U.S. soil or abroad. The comments are directed soley at the one website above that is attempting to put an extremely broad definition on the term "terrorism" which, in my opinion, is therefore dimishing the very real, devastating terrorist acts happening around the world. Categorizing balloons and stink bombs as "terrorism" waters down what really IS terrorism, which dilutes the real danger we need to be watchful for. Hope that makes sense.
  17. 2 reasons: 1 - The falling water temps tell them winter is coming. They instinctively know to "fatten up" for the long winter, when there's less forage and feeding opportunities. You see all kinds of wildlife do this in the fall. Bass are no different. 2 - Shad die off in the fall, and bass instinctively feed on the dying and injured baitfish. It's nature's way of weeding out the weak. It's built-in to their instincts, but also serves to "fatten them up" for the winter. Kinda cool how that works, eh?

The coffee-scented baits were, shall I say, "different". I'm not sure how much of it is fact and how much is hype. So I'm taking a wait-n-see approach on them. Same goes with those edible baits. Didn't see the rods at the Diawa booth. I think I got a little numb after seeing so many rods and reels after awhile. It got to the point I just wasn't too interested in seeing another rod/reel that was essentially a slightly different version of another rod/reel I'd just seen. True, Shimano has reworked a line of their spinning reels by essentially replacing the guts with magnesium and titatium parts. But that was essentially in line with the theme of what I saw from all the major manufacturers - improvements on existing lines. I did check out the Steez line, but was disappointed that there wasn't anything really "new" or earthshattering coming from them either. I was on a mission to find new and unique products, so I may have overlooked significant improvements on existing products. I did get to meet a lot of people and made a lot of friends. Sorry I missed you there. I didn't realize you were going to be there. Seems there was a number of BassResourcers there, and I got to meet most. There's always next year.

Howdy folks, It's not too often I get to write an article for the site these days, but I took the time to jot down a few things about some of the unique and innovative items I discovered while at the ICAST show this year. Take a look here. Enjoy!
  20. I'm pleased to announce that Ghoti (Gary) has accepted the position! Gary has deep experience in computer technology and understands the processes involved for cracking down on copyright violators. He's also a LONG time member here who's become part of the "family". Please help me in congratulating him on his new role! I also want to thank everyone who expressed interest in this role. There's a lot of talented and dedicated people here, so the decision was difficult to make. There will be additional opportunties in the months to come, so I encourage those who applied to take advantage of those openings when they occur. Thanks again everyone, and congrats to Ghoti!
  21. While SOME of the incidents reported on that site are legitimate terrorist actions, most of them are not. It seems this site is exaggerating and bloating the reports. For example, here's a few "terror incidents" I grabbed at random: A huge majority are simply "suspicious packages" reports - most of which are not terror-related at all. Seems they're reporting anything with the word "bomb" in it. Or here's a good one: Turns out these were samples collected back in '96 by United Nations inspectors that were being delivered to a laboratory for analysis. They just went to the wrong place. Even better: So.... I don't put a whole lot of credit to a site that's collecting headlines on any and all bomb threats - or even wrong deliveries and balloons - and then classifying them ALL as terrorist activities. Seems extreme to me. We wouldn't have been calling them "terror incidents" back in '98. Let's not start calling them something different now because it's in vogue.
  22. Ok guys, this thread is slipping deeper and deeper past the threshold. Funny to some, offensive to others.... and less people are finding it funny as it goes on, if you get my drift (especially to those with children). Let's keep it clean, ok? That's all I ask.
  23. FLW is hitting Tri-Cities in a few weeks. Should be good fishing. Should see a lot of 5+ pound smallies each day. Too bad the WDF won't let them fish for largemouths, as there's a good population of them there too.
  24. Best fishing is during an outgoing tide, but incoming isn't bad either. Just avoid slack tide - move someplace elses. These bass want current! Look for wingdams and fish them end-to-end. Tubes, cranks, splitshot and dropshot all work good. Position your boat down stream and cast upstream, then hold on! Also note - be extremely careful when you pull off the channel. You can hit a rockpile in a heartbeat in some places.
