Handling mudfish
Hey Tom: I am not a fisheries expert, just posted some readings, I have no strong opinion either way Creationist follwoers have been discredited all palentholgy, based on a few errors. This would be like discrediting the space program, based on the Appolo Accident, it is the vast amount of correct material. I will not disrespect a creationist views, but I belive in Evolution and the possibility of the big bang. \ Carbon tested has not been the stanrd for a long itme, radio wetrics, and the study of the earth as an enity of this solar system has proven more reliable. The earth is way more than 6000 years, the Bible is not the only historical evidence for all of us. I respect those who it is. I will go with science here, there is good scientific proff that the earth is much older than 6000 years. Here is some stuff about it for the US Geological Society AGE OF THE EARTH So far scientists have not found a way to determine the exact age of the Earth directly from Earth rocks because Earth's oldest rocks have been recycled and destroyed by the process of plate tectonics. If there are any of Earth's primordial rocks left in their original state, they have not yet been found. Nevertheless, scientists have been able to determine the probable age of the Solar System and to calculate an age for the Earth by assuming that the Earth and the rest of the solid bodies in the Solar System formed at the same time and are, therefore, of the same age. The ages of Earth and Moon rocks and of meteorites are measured by the decay of long-lived radioactive isotopes of elements that occur naturally in rocks and minerals and that decay with half lives of 700 million to more than 100 billion years to stable isotopes of other elements. These dating techniques, which are firmly grounded in physics and are known collectively as radiometric dating, are used to measure the last time that the rock being dated was either melted or disturbed sufficiently to rehomogenize its radioactive elements. Click on the image to see a graphical representation of geologic time [344K] Ancient rocks exceeding 3.5 billion years in age are found on all of Earth's continents. The oldest rocks on Earth found so far are the Acasta Gneisses in northwestern Canada near Great Slave Lake (4.03 Ga) and the Isua Supracrustal rocks in West Greenland (3.7 to 3.8 Ga), but well-studied rocks nearly as old are also found in the Minnesota River Valley and northern Michigan (3.5-3.7 billion years), in Swaziland (3.4-3.5 billion years), and in Western Australia (3.4-3.6 billion years). [see Editor's Note.] These ancient rocks have been dated by a number of radiometric dating methods and the consistency of the results give scientists confidence that the ages are correct to within a few percent. An interesting feature of these ancient rocks is that they are not from any sort of "primordial crust" but are lava flows and sediments deposited in shallow water, an indication that Earth history began well before these rocks were deposited. In Western Australia, single zircon crystals found in younger sedimentary rocks have radiometric ages of as much as 4.3 billion years, making these tiny crystals the oldest materials to be found on Earth so far. The source rocks for these zircon crystals have not yet been found. The ages measured for Earth's oldest rocks and oldest crystals show that the Earth is at least 4.3 billion years in age but do not reveal the exact age of Earth's formation. The best age for the Earth (4.54 Ga) is based on old, presumed single-stage leads coupled with the Pb ratios in troilite from iron meteorites, specifically the Canyon Diablo meteorite. In addition, mineral grains (zircon) with U-Pb ages of 4.4 Ga have recently been reported from sedimentary rocks in west-central Australia. The Moon is a more primitive planet than Earth because it has not been disturbed by plate tectonics; thus, some of its more ancient rocks are more plentiful. Only a small number of rocks were returned to Earth by the six Apollo and three Luna missions. These rocks vary greatly in age, a reflection of their different ages of formation and their subsequent histories. The oldest dated moon rocks, however, have ages between 4.4 and 4.5 billion years and provide a minimum age for the formation of our nearest planetary neighbor. Thousands of meteorites, which are fragments of asteroids that fall to Earth, have been recovered. These primitive objects provide the best ages for the time of formation of the Solar System. There are more than 70 meteorites, of different types, whose ages have been measured using radiometric dating techniques. The results show that the meteorites, and therefore the Solar System, formed between 4.53 and 4.58 billion years ago. The best age for the Earth comes not from dating individual rocks but by considering the Earth and meteorites as part of the same evolving system in which the isotopic composition of lead, specifically the ratio of lead-207 to lead-206 changes over time owing to the decay of radioactive uranium-235 and uranium-238, respectively. Scientists have used this approach to determine the time required for the isotopes in the Earth's oldest lead ores, of which there are only a few, to evolve from its primordial composition, as measured in uranium-free phases of iron meteorites, to its compositions at the time these lead ores separated from their mantle reservoirs. These calculations result in an age for the Earth and meteorites, and hence the Solar System, of 4.54 billion years with an uncertainty of less than 1 percent. To be precise, this age represents the last time that lead isotopes were homogeneous througout the inner Solar System and the time that lead and uranium was incorporated into the solid bodies of the Solar System. The age of 4.54 billion years found for the Solar System and Earth is consistent with current calculations of 11 to 13 billion years for the age of the Milky Way Galaxy (based on the stage of evolution of globular cluster stars) and the age of 10 to 15 billion years for the age of the Universe (based on the recession of distant galaxies). For additional information on this subject, see G. Brent Dalrymple's The Age of the Earth, published by the Stanford University Press (Stanford, Calif.) in 1991 (492 p.). I believe that the 6,000 year old number is biblically based. I am with the scientific evidence of 4.5 billion years also. The research seems to point to controlled culling instead of random and wholesale killing of all bowfin, that would be tragic for many bodies of water, because they are in the upperend of the feeding pyramid.

FIRST JIG FISH! Finally!
GREAT GOING! Last year I did the same thing, I fished and fished, mostly only using jigs for a little over a year, until I broke the ice. It is now my favorite bait, and one of my most successful.

ATTN Muddy
Man thats a hard one, they don't come more soulful , to me than Dr.John But you may want to experience these guys: Pine Top Perkins; from t Muddy Waters Band Henry Butler James Booker Jon Cleary Ray Charles Charles Burnett Jazzers Thelonius Monk Oscar Peterson Keith Jarret Art Tatum You should seek out a documentary, produced by a fella named SECOR: PIANO PLAYERS SELDOM PLAY TOGETHER, or a title close to that. He got 3 generations of New Orleans Paino plers Tuts Washington Professor Longhair(FESS):: Henry Roland Byrd Allan Tousaint he got them to play together and explain how Toots influenced Fess and Allan and Allan talked about being the youngest, particuarlly interesting is Allans love of Fess. Fess died during the making of the film, his funeral is documented in the film Toots was the first to take the Blues Boogies of fellas like Jelly Roll Morton( one of Jazz's founding fathers) and go to what was called Jump then Stride paino; whence most of blues , R&B and certainly rock and roll comes from. LISTEN TO TOOTS PLAY : SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET FESS; He is one of the originators of rock and roll; Allan Tousaint ,Jerry Lee Lewis,Little Richard,Fats Domino and Dr John all have done his tunes and talked about him as an influence. Listen to him on TIPATINA he talks about counterpoint playing as he puts in, left hand playing more than the bass line; it is the basis of Carnival/2nd line playing and it comes from him Allan Tousiant; One of the most soulful players you can find. He wrote the origianl version of SOUTHERN NITES; go to You tube it;'s there, a wuhole different feeling by it's author Allan is not only a player , he is a prolific writer: Yes We CAN CAN, WORKING IN THE COLD MINES, MOTHER IN LAW, JAVA AND SOUTHERN NITES are just a drop in the bucket of monster tunes he has written He also is a successful producer, along with Cosimo Mattrese; htey opened CYSAINT Studios and out of there would come hits by Fats Dominio.Louis Prima, the Dixie Cups,The Meters( House Band for the label),Fats Domino, the Neville brothers and many , many more He has been on the top 40 as a player/writer or producer over 120 times!! He even produced parts of The Stones and Beatles work. Give these 3 and all the above a try, if you don't find what you are looking for it has to come from someone else b/c this is all I know 8-) Fess learned

The most overrated, crappy band on the planet?
They were so great that Hal Blaine played Ringo's drum parts in the studio. They also bought enough records, funded by Ed Sullivan and company to get on the Billboard Charts ( essential in those days for a single) with a bullet. Most people do not realize that I Want to Hold Your hand , was not thier first American release, I believe, if wrong someone correct me, was Love me Do, which did not go to number one. They bought their own records to do that .

fall fishing cutoff?
No, if you stated for me Air Temp is irrelevant , i would not have answered the way I did, You ended the sentence before that and in a 2 word sentence you said Air temp. is irrelevant Which standing on it's own implies that it is irrelavant as an issue in this discussion. For the bass it is irrelevant and for you and I it has a different relevance. Discussion and stating ones point of view is different from starting an arguement Things do change, as I am leaving it at that.

5 hour energy
That is a misconception on how B12 works. Don. B12 has to work along with a complex called the Intrinsic Factor, together they build strong red blood cells and those cells can effectively carry 02 and nutrients as needed by the other organs. It's not like you can take a large dose of B12 and get energized right away. The regimen of Intrinisic Factor and B12 is used to treat Anemia I have no knowledge of the proiduct , I would check out if it has a high amount of High Fructose corn syrup, and or sugar along with caffine, as many of the other energy drinks have,

How to fish a pond full of hydrilla?
Yea it works for me. The worm can go right over the tops and through a good part of the middle of the weeds, The predominate weed here is coon tail, but I think it is close enough to hydrilla to make a comparison. I use slider and fineses jigs if they are hugging the bottom. In areas where they are thick and the water is over 6 ft. I have had a lot of success witht eh Weeless t rig i mentioned. Next year I am going to try your suggested burying the hook head , that seems like it will work THANKS MUCH! Here is something else that works with 6 inch Mann, Jelly Worms and Octupus hooks. I take the hook and go through the head, like you would do with a normal trig. The Octupus hook , being so small comes all the way through, I slide it down to mid worm than I embed the hook and also the hook eye into the worm t rig style and gentley tug the mono till the worm is sttraight, you can get that sucka all through all kinds of stuff!

BUBINGA:BROOKLYN STICK BALL<not to hijack Al's Thread
Hey Al THATS GREAT < I DID NOT KNOW BUBINGA WAS A REAL WORD! Where I grew up in South Brooklyn,Stick Ball was our number one game. We had 2 types , regualr with teams and a one on one fast pitching . The fast pitching version was played with the pitcher standing in the middle of St.Mark's Ave, at the sewer cover and throwing the ball to a strike zone ( drawn with chalk to avoid ball/.strike arguments) on the Phone Company wall. Depeneding on wheter you hit the ball across the street ot the first story=single to the top floor=home run, if the guy pitching dropped the ball when it bounced off the building> then the hitter got the floor value of the hit. The chalk would stop an arguement by if the ball had chalk on it then it was in the strike zone. We had this fella, Joey who won more shutouts than an yone could count NO ONE COULD HIT HIM, except for this one fella CARMINNE, everytime he roofed one ( Instant Home Run) he would say BUBINGA, just to bust on Joey, For years this was the word we used for any home run we were talking about oh NICE GUITAR!

How to fish a pond full of hydrilla?
Weightless t-rigged *** ripple tailed worms work great for me in these situations. I use an old fashioned s worm hook, instead of an EWG to keep the weeds off it. The hook stays right onto the body of the worm and doesn't stick out.8-)

KEEP GETTING GREEN PASTY CRAP ON POSITIVE POST WHEN CHARGING
Thanks. Miguel suggested ( He mananged a Truck repair shop for years) that I first clean it with something acidic, as like dissolves like, coke or white vinegar. Then to wash both terminals with the baking soda, as this will stop the corrisive effect of the acid and he did give me a can of the post protector stuff My next battery will be a sealed gel/mesh system!

fall fishing cutoff?
Air Temp has everything to do with it if I am uncomfortable or I have a chance of getting frostbite, as I am a diabetic and neuropathy would make it impossible to know that was happening. I was talking about for me, I said my firends usually fish for another month, water temps slow em down but I have seen 4 lb bass that were caught through the hard water.

THE PENNANTS ARE "ALMOST" IN VIEW AND THE TRASH IS FLYING- 2008
Good Pitching will conatin good hitting. These 5 game sets show how pitching is even more important then the next 2 seven game sets they will have to face.
