  1. LC is worth the price, i have to pay 25 bucks after taxes at canada for a pointer 78. comparing it to rapala x-raps, they are nice, but not as nice. what i don't like about the x-rap is u can see the cheap clued on lips. and inconsistance in their lures sometimes. + i love the LC colours: chart. shad, MS american, ghost minnow. =)
  2. i need a strategy in looking for these fishes in just a motor boat. i can't see anything under like rock piles or whatever. so how do i go about on this? fish random spots and move a lot?
  3. going smallmouth fishing for the first time ever. me and my gf are planning to rent a boat and just fish the lake. i don't really know how the lake looks like until i head up to the place. we plan on just using worms from the local bait shop. i am going to bring my tackle box along but i dont know if LM and SM eat the same things. how do i locate those smallies with just a rental boat? usually when i LM fish, i just find visible structures. is it the same for SM? ps. are there any baits that you guys would start off? like some tubes or senkos? any advice is appreciated. thank you.
  4. i fish rice lake a lot in the past, but now a days, it's too populated with people.
  5. i use the Palomar knot for hooks... easy to tie on and very tight.
  6. i understand where everyone is coming from, i just wanted you guys to give me ur input on this and how you think it works. i haven't read much books, but i do plan on buying a few sometime this week. i think that in my opinion LM bass will eat anything that they can fit into their mouths. the thing is, the bigger the bass the smarter they are. so baits like bright green crankbaits don't work if they see it and unless its a reaction strike, maybe i am wrong and at that time, they don't wanna chase a bait. i do agree that creature baits work because you can cast it right on the tip of their noise. they don't know what it is. it smells good, it looks unique and different, it looks like food, bam! they hit it. to me, i think every bait out there has a good chance to catch fish, but you still need to know because some colours catch fish more than others. same thing goes with presentation. i have countless time where me and my buddies in the same boat where 1 guy was catching fish and the other guy wasn't on the same lure.
  7. I'm sure we all know the basics about colours when it comes to our baits such as which is best for each condition, but what i don't understand is. if i tie on a firetiger or bright green coloured crankbait and fished it in clear water would i catch fish? i mean there is no bright green shad in the lake. maybe it will catch a bass because it bumped off a structure and caused a reaction strike, but if the bass sees it for a split second, will he bite it? same goes for such baits like chartreuse spinnerbaits, i'm sure it's easier to get a reaction strike than it is for a crankbait. but will any colour work aslong as the fish can see/feel it? any input on this?
  8. thank you all for the replies... =)
  9. i actually have a lot of lures and baits because i used to collect them when i was younger, but never really used them to fish with. some are still in their original packages like the pointer 78sp's and a few fat free shad colors that i can't find anymore. i remember taking my allowance money and would go buy fishing lures instead of baseball cards or whatever else we used to collect. anyways, like i said, i have a lot of lures, but i seem to only use these ones only. 1) weightless 6" berkley power slug in pumpkinseed colour (can't get these anymore, but my uncle ordered 5x100 pack b/c he loves them so much) 2) a DW spinnerbait in chart. 3) x-rap jerkbait 4) a buzzbait 5) a medium depth crankbait - pearl colour
  10. KVD's Basic 3: 1. Start with a 6-foot, 10-inch, medium-heavy action baitcaster. That rod will handle most spinnerbaits, crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, jerkbaits and topwater plugs. 2. He also recommends we carry a 7-foot, medium action spinning rod with a high speed reel. That'll work for most finesse applications such as drop shotting, shaky heads and weightless worms. 3. A 7-foot, 2-inch heavy casting rod will round out the arsenal. It'll manage heavy cover applications such as flipping or pitching, and it work frogs effectively.
  11. X2 making my mouth water just thinking about it bluegill also x3 crappie is very good tasting and i its really ez to scale. =) btw, buy one of these and tie it along the boat or on a rock by the shore and let it sit in the water. the fish won't die. it's a fish wire cage.
  12. depends how much that fish was worth to you. if the fish made your day, i'm sure it was worth it
  13. i'm new to the forum so i want to start off by saying nice to meet you all. if you were to limit yourself to only 5 or so lures or baits to fish with all season what would they be? this is for largemouth and smallmouth bass. please be specific with the colours and take these things into consideration: 1) its a new lake and you don't know anything about it. eg. water conditions, if the lake is weedy, etc. 2) you only have a motor rental boat with no gps or depth finder. where do you start fish if the locals don't give you any tips and the lake is big? the reason why i'm asking these questions is because i always fish new lakes in a rental boat and on a limited amount of time and money, so i want to make the best of my trips.
