Welcome aboard, let the fun begin!
  2. I'm living in Cedar Rapids but am originally from Waverly and spend a lot of time hunting in Wadena/Volga area. I also have family in DBQ so I get to the river once in a while to chase the eyes! Dave D
  3. Hey all, just got back to the site after joining back in August. Hoping to be able to spend some more time on the site from here on out. I'm from Eastern Iowa and just started getting serious about bass fishing about 5 years ago and boy do I love it. I'm definitely a mulit-species angler and will follow the hot bite but I seem to always go back to chasing bass in the end. I've got a 16ft Xpress jon that's been customized for bass fishing and there are few places I'd rather be than in it! Look forward to learning lots and contributing as much as I can! Dave
  4. I've had the below rod for about 8 years and it is bar none my fav for fishing 1/2 traps. Premier Crankbait PC70MM 7' 1 M Mod. 8-14 1/4 - 5/8 I swear I can feel just about every little thing that trap runs into with this rod. A blade of grass, a rock, shad, another fish, just about anything. I'm going to be getting the next rod up from my dad for this up and coming season. He bought it and doesn't ever use it. PC70MHM 7' 1 MH Mod. 10-20 3/8 - 1 Let us know how you like it.
  5. Hey all, just getting back to the site after joining back in August! With the hard water season here in Iowa nearing the end, my thoughts are turning to bucket mouths and bronzebacks so I knew it was time to return! So I return with a question of course! ;D Has anyone been able to log any hours with the new Shimano Sonora FB reels? I picked up two 7ft Medium(1/4-5/8) Spinning rods on clearance this winter and need two new reels for them. I will mainly be using these for plastics, tubes, senkos and worms. I was looking at the 2500 series and was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience. Thanks for any responses and it's great to be back!
  6. a Shimano Cardiff with a Cabela's 7 ft tourney rod, both of which I no longer have because they both failed. However I did catch a 7lb largie on it so I can't complain too much! ;D
  7. Two ways to look at it I guess. Fireline really cuts through cover well, pads, cabbage and so on... So in this case it's great. On the other side of things, some times you get fireline stuck in rocks and wood and you are not going to break it without a knife. So in this case it's nice to use a flouro leader material such as Vanish. I personally do like to use a leader when the fish are finicky, not sure it helps but it gives me piece of mind. Hope this is helpful. It's all about what you are confident with. Dave
