  1. I wondered about that since the fish looks like a mount. However I have seen a bald eagle carrying a 3-4 lb walleye in Canada! One of the coolest things I've ever seen!
  2. My confidence bait in the spring has always been a Rat-L-Trap(Bill Lewis only). Being a big pike fisherman I just love that aggressive strike. Over the past year or so I have really grown to love worm fishing and I will be trying this more and more this spring along with tubes and drop shotting. My favorite bait of the last 10 years!
  3. All you need is a GIANT Eagle or Falcon!
  4. Welcome to the site! You are going to like it here!

Welcome to the site Jake! I'm originally from Waverly and went to college in Waterloo and now live in Cedar Rapids. My folks still live in Wav and I know a lot of people there. If you ever want to wet a line let me know. Or if you have any questions on places to bass fish in the area I can probably assist! Dave
  6. I would think that's a pretty good price on that unit. From the pics the motor looks to be pretty clean. Let us know how you turn out with it.
  7. I'm a Minn Kota guy and my dad has been for years. He's probably not as tuff on his TM as I am since I bass fish in the crud but he's had very few problems with any of his and he's had a few! ;D I've got a PD and it has hit a lot of things and never missed a beat. I've hit a couple things so hard that I was almost thrown from the boat! She still keeps on ticking! So my vote is for Minn Kota all the way!
  8. Wish I had a BPS closer than 4 hours from me. Might replace a few other round reels. Oh well! I'm happy with what I have and I've only spent $60. ;D
  9. Well I've got my two new reels! Just wanted to let you all know what I ended up with! Thanks to Big Tom I've got a new to me, Browning Citori in 6.3:1 for one of my empty rods. Here's a pic of the reel! That then allowed me to spend a little more money on the second reel. I decided I wanted a burner so the search started. I'm kind of odd and I for some reason just don't like it when star drags are plastic so finding a burner under $100 with a metal star drag it not that easy to do. But here is what I got. I found the new Quantum Burst 7.0:1 normally $70 for $60. I literally just got this reel 30 mins ago and it is a nice little unit. It is really small which will work out great on my jig/plastics rod and it's pretty darn smooth, not to mention pretty! Hopefully it will prove itself mechanically in a few weeks when I hit the water! Here's a pic of the Burst! Thanks to everyone for the advice! I'll post up pics of the first fish with each of the new reels! Dave
  10. It will help. Keeping the center of gravity lower will reduce the chances of tipping but with a boat that narrow you are still going to run that risk. With that being said, keep this in mind. People fish from Kayaks and canoes all of the time and often times standing up if you are good on your feet and can balance well. I think you'll be fine. Biggest thing is to try one height and see how it works. You can always change it. That's half the fun in building your own boat.
  11. Good buy! I would have bought it as well. If it's not what you want in the end you can clean it up and sell if for a couple hundred profit. Keep us posted with how it turns out.
  12. This is what I have. I only use it however if I'm going on long trips. Works great in my short box chevy. You can criss cross longer rods to run corner to corner. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0053153122954a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=boat+buckle&Ntk=Products&sort=all&Go.y=0&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&Go.x=0&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1 If short trips they sit on the passenger side, rods butts to the floor.
  13. I don't have a lot of names for spots locally but where we fish in Canada we have a bunch. Mosquito Bay - Lots of the little buggers! Crotch Bay - Not sure on this one, probably ex-rated! Hagen's Bay - Buddies last name, his fav spot Snowmobile Point - There is a vintage snowmobile left on this point, miles away from the nearest road or cabin. Kind of cool. Leon's Island - one of my dad's favorite spots that only he fishes The Gold Mine - an old abandoned gold mine, the walleyes here are a darker golden color, we thing based on the gold in the area. Hole in the wall - A huge rock wall for miles and then all of the sudden there is this hole out of no where. Ray Charles Bay - So many fish even a blind guy could catch them there. Kat Corner - Can't go through this spot without catching cats, no matter what you are fishing for.
  14. Is 38" the beam measurement? Meaning the wide part of the boat at the rails? That is going to be a little tippy but you might be able to have the deck dropped down a little and that will help. Get some pics and we will be able to figure it out. Also a great site for rebuilds that will help out is www.tinboats.net tons of good info on building tin boats!
  15. Welcome to the site and congrats on the new rig. Post up some pics we will help in any way we can with the renovations! ;D
  16. Is this the mount that you bought? I'd say this might be the way to go if you can return the one you bought. 45" shaft.
  17. What colors are you going to go with on the new design? I like it, nice and simple.
  18. Thanks Corey! Now I have one more site to stroll through on a daily basis! ;D
  19. Welcome to the jungle!
  20. So this weekend I was on the ice chasing after some gills and I got into some real BIG BULL GILLS! After hooking into a good one and feeling some serious weight on the other end I found myself saying, "It's a GIANT, A GIANT!" I think perhaps I may have watched a little too much of the Classic and City Limits this past weekend! ;D I think Ike's great and I'm proud to be a "GIANT Catcher!" Anyone else have this problem?
  21. Welcome to the site and nice looking rig! The front deck on that thing is huge, lots of room for landing some toads!
  22. So since joining the site I have seen a lot of references to Tackle Warehouse. To be honest with you I don't know if I ever knew of the site before joining here, wow, what's wrong with me? Anyway, I just placed my first order yesterday and all I can say is I'm impressed! The item I ordered was on sale for $10 less than another favorite site of mine and there was free shipping on all orders $50 and up! To top this, the item shipped yesterday as well and will be here next week! I think that I'll be doing some more shopping at Tackle Warehouse in the near future! Thanks BassResouce.com for showing me the light! Dave D
  23. Welcome to the site! What town do you live in? I'm in Cedar Rapids but visit DBQ, Waverly, Volga areas frequently!
  24. BT, I'll take you up on that offer! Not sure what I'll cost to ship it to Iowa but I can ship you some tackle in return to make up for the cost. If this works for you, let me know. We can PM the details. Now just one more reel to go! BTW, this site is great and so are all of it's members Dave D
