  1. He doesn't believe it is "his" problem? He doesn't know? Try the Better Business Bureau in your area. They sometimes handle complaints or notify businesses that a complaint has been filed against them. That may alter Thayer's "belief". Sometimes local tv stations will deal with customer complaints, depending. They sometimes run features dealing with customer complaints. On most that I have seen, the attitude adjustment of bad publicity is often enough to rectify matters. As a last resort, you can always take 'em to small claims court. You have to determine if your time and energy is worth the effort. One thing is certain, they do not want to spend their time in a courtroom over such a minor (I know it's not minor to you. And it shouldn't be) matter as the labor involved in swapping out an axle. As others have said, dealers are compensated by manufacturers for warranty repairs. Both for the parts and the labor.
  2. Any of those will probably work fine if you have a single axle trailer. A dual axle trailer is a whole 'nother animal. The first one looks like it is self propelled which is a necessity. A single axle trailer will pivot easily. Any turn with a dual axle scrubs the tires. The sharper you try to turn it, the more resistance you create. I could turn my Z-7 with hardly any effort. My Z-8 dual axle will budge until the tires reach maximum sidewall flex. After that, you are trying to move the tires sideways. Even with the leverage of the tongue, I cannot make the tires' contact patches drag sideways which is required for sharp turns.
  3. I just sent you a pm as a test. Don't want you feeling rejected.
  4. Here's hoping for a good report.
  5. When my wife gets a new outfit, her standard question is, "Does this make me look fat?" When I say "No.", she asks if I'm saying that just to shut her up and I say "Yes." Then she'll ask, upon returning from the beauty parlor, if her new "do" makes her look younger. So I answer "Yes." and she asks if I'm just saying that to shut her up. And again I answer "Yes." Who'd a thunk that saying yes could get you into so much trouble. Then she'll ask if her new outfit looks good on her. I say, "Yes, but it looks better off of you." That answer she doesn't mind.
  6. Kinda like "cheese food product".
  7. You might not get a good stream with the ears and a garden hose. I have to adjust the ears to a certain position, then use a handscrew wood clamp to get the ears snug. Without the backpressure of actually being in the water, the cooling water has an easy flow out of the exhaust, and short of getting a good seal with the ears, you might not get a good steady flow out of the telltale.
  8. What's an arugent?
  9. I remember those days. Still don't know why it was done, even on motors used on a daily basis. I can understand if it was going to be sitting for an extended period, but even then, we'd disconnect the fuel tank and run it 'til all the gas in the carb was gone. The next time out, we'd connect to the fuel tank which had the same gas we'd run out of the engine. Maybe in those days, when the motor was tipped up, fuel would dribble from the carb.
  10. I'd guess every department of your state government would say they are stretched for finances. Most All state governments are strapped for cash.
  11. Ditto. Correct or not, hope it makes for a better day.
  12. Glad to hear your health has improved. It's always a good thing to have something to look forward to. Keeps the juices flowing.
  13. How did you miss that when you bought the boat? That's an awful lot of rust for a "new" trailer. It looks like someone painted over rust scale. Was Lowes the dealer from whom you bought the boat?
  14. Winter = hibernation. I do all of the renovations on our house. Replace a door, I do it. Remove carpet and put in hardwood flooring, I do it. Need to replace a lighting fixture or outlet, I do it. Install built in wall ovens, I do it. I do it from November - March. From April - October, when fishing needs to be done, I do it.
  15. Why just at a fuel conditioner such as Stabil or Startron when you store a boat? I add fuel conditioner for all the gasoline I buy except for our truck and SUV. Everytime I fill my five gallon jugs with fuel for the power equipment around the yard, and to have for our generator in case we lose power. I put in the recommended amount for five gallons. Mowers, trimmers, chain saw, edger, etc., all sit idle during the winter. I used to have starting problems with the lawn edger every spring. I'd have dump the fuel and fill with fresh gas and it would start right up. Since I've started treating all my fuel, it starts right up in the spring, after sitting idle for at least four months. I may be wrong, but I believe that the fuel treatment slows down the deterioration of fuel lines. It's cheap insurance for expensive machinery.
  16. Sounds like time and the UV rays from the sun have done their dirty work and faded your seat. There must be a product that will "restore" your seat to somewhere near its original color. I know they have products for dying the vinyl and upholstery in vehicles, don't know why it wouldn't work on your seat. Try googling restore vinyl color, or something like that. Here's one result. http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=restore+color+of+faded+vinyl+boat+seats&qpvt=restore+color+of+faded+vinyl+boat+seats&FORM=VDRE
  17. My main concern would be that those plastic screws with the knobs are line grabbers, and can snag branches that overhang the water. If they are a standard thread, I'd swap them for Phillips, oval head stainless steel machine screws and grommets. I would normally say countersunk oval head screws without the grommets, but plastic and countersunk don't normally work well together. You'll need a Phillips head screwdriver for assembly. An acceptable trade-off for a snag free hull.
  18. I get the impression that you have used the motor more than once. Anytime you use the trolling motor, the batteries should be charged as soon as you get home. Not keeping them fully charged will shorten battery life.
  19. It varies, but I'm an early morning kind of guy. I'm at the ramp at least an hour before daylight, which is before the official sunrise. I like it when there is a mist hanging over the water, and maybe a sprinkle or shower. On ponds with pleasure/recreational boaters, they are usually just starting to get on the water between nine and ten o'clock. That means I've had four to five hours of undisturbed fishing. But, I'll also get out in the middle of the day if the spirit moves me.
  20. Now I'm trying to find a fish or something fishing related.
  21. Look for transitions. Transitions are changes in depth (structure), changes in bottom composition, mud, sand, rocky, bare and vegetation from sparse to thick. Another transition is change in water temp. Keep in mind, in most cases, using a fish finder, you are seeing surface temps. Still surface temps can play a role in fish behavior. When you get into fish, take careful note of what the bottom looks like on the sounder, the depth, current, etc. When you move, look for another area that has the same characteristics. Chances are you'll find fish. One other thing. Don't just zoom around the lake from one area to another until you are familiar with the bottom. The sounder is your eyes on the bottom. You'll miss a lot. Cruise at a slower speed. Keep one eye on your sounder and the other on where you are going. I know, that's impossible, but it's my way of saying study the sounder, but don't get so engrossed that you don't also pay attention to where you are going.
  22. You want pumpkins. For those close to Providence, I highly recommend the Roger Williams Park, Pumpkin or Jack-o-lantern Spectacular. It runs evenings for the month of October into the first few days in November. It's a half hour to forty minute walk through the meandering paths in the park.
