  1. It must be a one way passage. There's no turning back now. Just traversing it is daunting enough. What about those who actually constructed it?
  2. Just looking at the photos made my stomach do flip flops. It's definitely not for me.
  3. I think it's what we used to know as "The Montreal Express", but was changed to "The Alberta Clipper". It's when the jet stream swoops south from western Canada toward or to the Gulf of Mexico, then swings easterly then back to the north, the entire system gradually moving east. The past two days the leading (eastern) edge of the system brought warm air from Florida north along the coast. When that edge pushes past us, we'll have the cold air to deal with that is behind the leading edge.
  4. Check with Long Mike. He has an alarm system on his boat that is the *** of Fort Knox.
  5. Tag team boxing. Fully clad ring girls. Four or five people in the ring between rounds, not counting the combatants. It was entertaining. Did you break the guy's rib? At first I though he was hit below the belt. Then he was clutching the bottom of his rib cage.
  6. Get indoor projects done around the house. It's a perfect time to get them done. Keeps the wife happy. Who wants to work indoors when the weather is nice?
  7. Or, a baseball card, held on with a clothespin.
  8. Dunno. Maybe I'll start a fire, and listen to the logs crackling.
  9. My next relocation will be for the speedweeks at Daytona Beach. Yes, the cold is coming in tomorrow or the day after, but it's not going to be the bitter cold we had a few days ago. The long range forcast shows a warming trend for the weekend with highs back in the 40s. When you pee ice cubes you know it's cold.
  10. I hate to rub it in, but it's a balmy 50 degrees and raining here in SE Mass. That foot or so of snow we got a few days ago is history. Yesterday, temps were in the high 40s. To tell the truth, I'm relishing rubbing it in. We don't get the opportunity that often, so I'm not letting it go to waste. Freeze baby, freeze.
  11. I'd be very wary of trying to hook up both trolling motor batteries simultaneously. You'd have to disconnected the "jumper cable" that connects the two batteries in series. You can hook up the cranking battery and one of the tm batteries simultaneously. As you charge the single tm battery, the higher charged battery will "bleed" power to the tm battery that is not hooked up to the charger. When a battery gets old it may still start an engine. And it may seem fine when left for a short period of time. But at some point, the "weak cell" in the battery pulls the remaining cells down. After the vehicle has set overnight it will crank noticeably slower, and might not be able to start the engine. It's the weakest link in the chain thing. In the same way, the battery that is not charging will draw power from the battery being charged. The reason you have multi bank chargers for boats is that each "bank" is separate from the others. That's why you can connect them directly to batteries that are in series.
  12. Yes, but, Payne wore them in NFL colors if I remember correctly. What would he have looked like wearing them on the gridiron. The style was just a retro look. You don't see the pros today wearing neckties while they play the game. At some point they lost the knickers (was that short for Knickerbockers?) but kept the ties. When I was a kid, we wore half knickers. Many of our bicycles didn't have chain guards. To prevent our pants from getting bound up in the sprocket we'd tuck our pants into our socks, but only on the side that had the chain.
  13. Nice. May she serve you well.
  14. If it's on the internet, it has to be true.
  15. This thread is most amusing. Clothes? What to wear? What not to wear? I don't dress to impress. Just ask my wife. Well excluding Ghoti's soiree of course. But that's just to tweak a couple of clothes horses we have that are meticulous in the apparel they wear. If someone gave me a billboard fishing shirt, I'd wear it. But I'm not inclined to spend my money on it for the purpose of impressing others. A fishing shirt is not going to cause me to catch one more, or one less fish. I wear clothing to protect myself from the elements, and to spare the eyes of others around me. "Clothes make the man." Not in my book. I can put my shirt on our dog. He'll still be a dog. I can wear a lab coat, but that doesn't make me a doctor. I'm perfectly comfortable with those who are meticulous, and take pride in their appearance. It's just not for me. Different strokes for different folks and all that rot. I wear what I want, and I extend that same privilege to others around me, without concerning myself as to why they dress the way they do. That's just me, about 40 years ago. I dress to impress.
  16. You are correct. But the Everly Brothers also perfomed it. http://youtu.be/3u3jEwkG3_Y
  17. Shoals and shelfs, especially if they have vegetation (cover) To me, a shoal is a shallow area surrounded by deeper water. A shelf is usually a shoreline feature. It is found where the water gets deeper from the shore, and then the bottom levels off then drops again as you continue away from the shore. Shallow is a relative term. It may be twenty feet deep surrounded by water that is deeper. That depth can vary. It may be twenty-five feet deep or a hundred feet deep. The same is true of a shelf regarding the depth. I refer to the outer edge of a shelf where it drops off into deeper water as a shoulder. I've had good luck fishing the shoulders. Electronics will show you where to fish. The fish may be gathered at the shoulder, or at the inner edge of the shoal. Think "transitions". It includes structure and cover. The edge of a weed/grass/lily pad bed are transitions from barren bottom to bottom with vegetation. It can also include changes in bottom composition, from sandy to muddy, to rocky. Changes in depth are also transitions.
  18. Bird dog, All I Have to Do is Dream, Bye Bye Love, Be Bop a Lula, and many others. Does that bring back memories. RIP Phil.
  19. You sound like a good friend of mine. His philosophy is, "The good Lord put it there, and the good Lord will take it away."
  20. If there are giveaways my wife would love it. She gets every freebee offered at Speedweeks in Daytona. Then she wonders what she will do with them. They usually end up as stocking stuffers for Christmas.
  21. Here's hoping for the best. God bless.
  22. That's a funny topic. Years ago, a blizzard would cripple communities. The last blizzard that did that around here was the Blizzard of '78, 36 years ago. The equipment is much more powerful and efficient be it plows or spreaders. Stores may close as a result of a storm, but that facilitates quicker removal of snow from parking lots. It's a breeze without cars in a lot. Back in the day stores could be closed for three or four days, so folks stocked up on the basics, bread, milk and eggs. With today's all wheel, or four wheel drive vehicles being so common, a few inches of snow on the roads is a small obstacle. The old habits die hard.
  23. Dinky has been a marshal in some of them. He is slated to serve in this years classic at Guntersville.
  24. We got less. Maybe 8 - 12 inches. Depends on where you measure it.
