Is it set depending on the line strength you are using? I never really understood it and just ignored it. But since getting back into fishing I have been setting it and pulling on the line until it comes off with a decent pull.

I got a curado at a yard sale a few weeks back and took it with me today to try and learn how to use it. I put an ika on it and every time I tried to cast it would go straight down and hit the water 5-10 feet in front of me. One time when I went to reel it in all 5 feet there was a fish on. I didnt have a scale but I measured it and it was just under 16in and pretty fat. What does a LM this size usually weigh?

I actually scored 4 rods and reels at a yard sale, two which were a curado and a citica and I am thinking of letting her use the citica if she shows an interest. I got all 4 rods and reels for $10 and they all work great.

She actually had an ugly stick with a spincasting reel on it and asked for a spinning reel. So I got her a mitchell spinning combo for like $25. Her favorite thing, is to fish weightless texas rigged senkos and she is just starting to like throwing lures. She is actually good at it and has outfished me. :-X

The rod she has now is a 5'6 and she has no problem with it. I will have her try my 6"6 and 7" first tho. Thats a good idea

Was at dicks today and they had cavitrons on sale for $4. Just thought id pass it along.

I see alot of rods that list the power rating but dont list the action for the rod. This is also the case on a few used rods I have. Is there a way to figure out what the action is on these rods? Maybe by putting a certain weight lure on and measuring how much the tip bends?

I am looking to get my 9yo daughter a decent spinning rod/reel combo for her b-day that will be used for mainly soft plastics and light lures. I was at dicks and they have a combo with a shimano sedona 2500 with a 6'6M power, fast action rod (shimano but dont remember exact details) for $50. Will this be a good option for her? any opinions appreciated

I am a little confused. When someone says a righthanded reel do they mean the crank is on the right side of the reel or do they mean it is for a right handed person? Because I am righthanded but prefer to reel with my left hand so I can work the pole with my right.

I have gone out about 6 times in the past two weeks and only caught one pickerel. Today I watched a bass swim in with my lure then sit there and watch it swim by him as i reeled in the next cast. >

I am planning to take a bailcaster I bought used recently somewhere to be cleaned. What would be the average cost to have this cleaned?

I have an 89 jeep comanche that im working on. Hopefully will be a pretty capable trail rig next year. Also am planning on learning to weld.

Thanks for the info guys. I took one of the spinning rods out today and it worked great w/out even cleaning it up. So I think they were taken care of. The women said they were her sons and he passed away. I have been wanting to learn how to use a baitcaster so I am gonna do some reading and give them a try next week.

I also got a tackle box full of stuff for another $20.00

It had been very tough where Ive been fishing too. But im hoping to change that as someone just lent me a canoe. So I will finally be off the shore tomorrow.

Ihave done research on this have seen many different "best" ways. I am using 8lb yo-zuri hybrid. Some say to have the string come over the top of the spool, and others say from under the spool, and still another says to have the top of the spool facing the reel. Which is best? and what type of knot is best to use to start?

Went out on a log today to retrieve a lure. Slipped coming back in and stuck the hook way into the bottom of my finger near my hand. Had to drive home like that and slice my finger with a razor blade to get it out. Now tomorrow i get to go get a tetenis shot. This happen to anyone else?
