  1. I just smile and throw a spook. If they don't hit it. ....then I'm just tickled to throw a c-rigged trick worm dead in the middle of them, and catch all the bigger fish underneath them. Optional bait: shakey head. .... same trick worm.
  2. Well this is fabulously great news for me then! I guess ill stick with my "cheap" <$150 rods and not have to replace them every 2 years. ..... What a bargain! Bring on my next crucial!
  3. I'm always so confused about this. I buy cheap stuff. The most expensive rod I own is my 7'6" crucial which was 169 at the time and it was a Xmas present from the inlaws. I have mostly shimano convergence, clarus and Abu veritas rods. I also have some berkley lightening rods I use inshore, as well as some super cheap field and stream inferno's II've been testing inshore in the kayak. I haven't broken a rod- especially on a fish- since I was like 10. I'm 39. I fish 4-5 times month. Fresh and salt. What the hell do you people do to your rods? ! I liked the micro magic when I handled it in the store. It was great. I had the chance to fish a ghost for a few minutes. .... really liked it as well. You can do ALOT worse for he money ....
  4. Tie on a beetle spin or an original rapala floater and go catch all those fish you listed in the same day! You rig is perfect for what you're after and your skill level. Enjoy it!
  5. Bummer. Hang in there! At least you know where they are!
  6. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004ZAIXSC?pc_redir=1410063347&robot_redir=1^^^ x one million. The best for this application, and one of the best in the world. .....
  7. Every spook is awesome. On that rig you may want to stick to a spook Jr or regular size. A super may be too much. If you get a Jr with the chrome hooks, you may want to switch them out. ...
  8. The lake I fish the most is a reservoir that in the 27 years I have fished it, I have never seen it clearer than 3' of visibility. Espicially in the main lake. Way, way up the creeks you can find "stained" water. .... but that's about it. Lol. You better get 17+# in a tourney there, or you're not safe.
  9. Welcome to the plastic navy! Get it slimed!
  10. This is almost my exact kit + toilet paper, 4" bolt cutters( for xstrong hooks), 7x7 tarp, kleen canteen steel water bottle, couple of hiking energy bars . This is all in a dry bag in my front hatch. It never leaves. If my trip is sketchy from the get go- going late in the evening, questionable water, expecting bad weather- then I put it in the back behind my crate for even easier access. I fish backwater marsh alot and sometimes its completely possible to get lost or have the tide strand you. It hasn't happened to me yet, but I want to be prepared if I have to spend the night in the kayak/ marsh/ woods. Edit: number 1 thing always, ALWAYS leave a float plan/ tell someone where you are launching from. If you change your mind on the way. ... text someone and tell them.
  11. Wtg! Nice when you take that leap and it pays off! ! I would have never told anyone you caught them on a frog. Lol. Shouldve just said " topwater" and let their imagination fill in the wrong pieces.
  12. Sammy 's are awesome. For a less expensive option, academy sells a house brand version that I can't tell the difference between. Maybe hooks? Idk- but I have one Sammy and like 5 h2o knockoffs.
  13. ^ maybe next time you come through we can take my kayaks out there and throw some traps! Frogs too!
  14. Nice fish CNG! Im not too terribly far from you . Tallahassee. Looks like the same kind of water I fish. Lol. Wtg!
  15. I think a lower ratio is more important for the torque than it is for speed. If you're mainly going to be throwing shallow and medium cranks, then try that PQ out for a while and save yourself some money. I think the real payoff for low ratio reels is when you're throwing big cranks to 15+ fow. Ymmv.
  16. My biggest bass so far this year was in 12fow on a hump next to a 30ft ledge. Caught on a bomber fat free shad in sexy shad color. 8.46# Numbers wise. .... flipping to heavy heavy grass has been the ticket.
  17. I throw junebug when I'm getting bites and follows on black, but want to spice it up. Stained or murky water in sunny conditions. Anytime you want to throw a dark bait. .... throw a junebug. They work great. I do just fine in clear water with junebug as well with moving baits. If you don't throw them, you'll never catch anything on them. Alternatively: they dont work at all. .... send them all to me.
  18. ^ once you get the hang of it, you will be amazed at the types of things you can get a lure out of. ...
  19. I like a 6'6" for bank banging. Easier to roll cast and pitch. T-rig, jigs. ....etc. a 6'6" mh will pretty much do anything.
  20. Bow and arrow trick. Still stuck? Send in the hound dog. Problem (almost always) solved.
  21. I would've switched colors. ..... but that's just me. Sounds like you got an awesome place to fish! Congrats!
  22. Shaky head works almost anywhere. Under docks is my favorite. If the bottom of your lake isn't conducive to a shaky head, try a t-rigged finesse worm on a light light weight. Like a 1/8oz. This will be fairly similar to a shakyhead.... but alot more weedless. This works espicially well with any of the "floating" worms. Good luck!
