Is This A Good Topwater Bait?

Featured Replies

I have read about the Lucky Craft Sammy topwater lure. Is this bait worth the money? They sell for around $16. I am thinking about getting one.   Any advice is appreciated.

well worth the money, I've got several Sammys.. the finishes wear fairly quick and the stock hooks need replacing though imo. Check out the Jackall Bonnie also, same lure designer finishes last longer and they come equipped with owner trebles. Both are worth having

Very good lure. My go to walker is a super spook jr. though.

They're a great bait for me, particularly for smallmouth and spotted bass for some reason.

Caught one of my largest smallies on a Sammy. I never leave home without them. :)

Nice bait, very easy to walk, nice glide to them.

Sammy 's are awesome.

For a less expensive option, academy sells a house brand version that I can't tell the difference between. Maybe hooks? Idk- but I have one Sammy and like 5 h2o knockoffs.

I like them but Demon Lures paints a knock off that has been very effective for me.

I purchased 4 poppers and 4 props of high roller top water lures they work. I'm just trying the more expensive stuff.

I was going to recommend a lure I had forever and never used till recently. It is a sebile and there version of a spook. I can't even find them on TW and i don't remember what it written on top of it. It has worked pretty good for me and what it does that others don't is actually glide under the water a bit when it walks. It is great for something different. Maybe I have had it so long with out using it they don't even make it any more. Even so it has done me well in the times I have used it.

Yes, but they are big.

You may have better results with them in the early spring and late fall.

But throw them and if you get a hit hold on. One of the best lures to get big hits and splashes.

One Caution:  Bass for some reason can throw Sammy's.

So keep your rod tip pointed towards the water or in the water to help stop the bass from jumping; NO SLACK IN THE LINE WHATSOEVER; and do what you can to view how the treble hooks are set in the fish's mouth before swinging it into the boat.

Use mono with as light a test as your rod and reel will allow for the best action.

Post pics!!!

Replace the trebles and go to work on some big bass!

Sammys rock!

Speakin of which i hear the bait monkey callin

I am probably unreasonable (and cheap), but if and when I pay $17 for a lure, I can assure you that I don't expect to have to replace the hooks immediately and then have the finish wear off fairly quickly.

The finish wearing off is pretty common on most hard walk the dog type lures and jerkbaits regardless of the pricetag
