  1. How are the bait bonanza baits different than the regular baits with the same name? It never occurred to me that they would be any different, I always just assumed they were cheaper because its Walmart.
  2. I misspoke. that's the one I have
  3. DO you have crossbars already? I have a swiss cargo 2 in 1 rack I got from Dick's. It has an adjustable upright with the option of laying completely flat to accommodate wider 'yaks. It installs on and off the factory crossbars with no tools, but it does have bolts with hand-turned knobs. I got this one because I wanted to be able to cartop 2 kayaks at once so when my wife comes we can still take one vehicle. If you only ever have to cartop one kayak at a time, another low profile option which would be more economical would be the foam block style carriers.
  4. Vibram fivefingers or Chaco sandals are my usual fishing shoes.
  5. Spanish class, first semester freshman year of college. We've been together a little over 7 years now. Got married this past June and bought our first house at the end of December.
  6. Raider was at the airport about to fly out for the bassresource roadtrip. After printing his boarding pass and checking his rods and tackle, he makes his way to the security checkpoint. Once he gets to the front of the line, he removes his shoes, tosses his bag on the conveyor, and goes through the metal detector. When he gets to the other side, the TSA agent working the x-ray machine asks him "sir, is this your bag?" Raider looks at the bag the TSA agent is holding, sees that it's his and says "yes, why do you ask?" The TSA agent then asks "are you aware that there's a dead raccoon in here?" To which Raider replies "Of course I am! It is my carrion, after all!"
  7. Decided to go with the Old Town Vapor. Went on sale for $300 at Academy this week and we jumped on it.

  10. Spinning from left: 5' 2pc shakespeare ultralight combo, 6'6" M 2pc Acadia rod/ Pflueger Trion, 6'8" MXF Tec Spec Elite/Pflueger President, 7'M 2pc Ugly stik lite pro/Gander Mountain metal spinning reel Casting from Left: 6'M Ugly stik/Ardent c400, 6'6" M Fenwick Goldenwing/Lews Speed Spool, 6'6"MHF St croix Avid/BPS Carbonlite, 7'M Ugly Stik Lite Pro/Curado 200E5, 7'MHF St Croix Mojo/Team Diawa Advantage 150H, 7'MH 2pc Acadia rod/Abassaduer c4 4600, BPS Bionic Blade 7'6"H MF/Ambassaduer C3 6500. Not as nice as some collections, but it gets the job done for me. The 6' ugly has a cracked reel seat, I think I want to replace it with a 2 pc st croix Premier. I also wouldn't mind either adding a spinning combo or replacing the ugly stik spinning rod with a 2 pc Avid.
  11. Never used it myself, but my dad has a crazy looking jointed frog crankbait in his box that he swears by. I believe its called a crankin' guido frog.
  12. It's funny this topic came up. I joined the forums around the same time the E series was getting ready to come out, and I remember having similar thoughts about everyone swooning over their Curados. I was just thinking the other day how it didn't seem like there was really that much hype about the new I series in comparison to how I remember it from back then. Back then it seemed like you just about got laughed off the forum for recommending anything but a Shimano. I think now there's a lot more choices for quality reels with other manufacturers emerging and stepping up their game. That combined with the perceived drop off in quality from the E to the G series when they tried to lower the price point maybe has caused some of the former die hard shimano guys to be a little more open minded about other brands and slowed the hype down somewhat, but they are great reels (I have a 200 e5), and they still have plenty of fans.
  13. I posted a few days ago about how I got my first kayak and decided to go with the perception caster 12.5.The next order of business now is getting one for my wife. She's not really big into fishing, but would probably fish some of the times she comes with me and other times just come to paddle and get some exercise and spend some time together. She said she wants a sit inside, and I'd like to keep the budget around $400. can anyone recommend any beginner sit insides around this price range that would be decent to fish out of? A couple we've looked that she says she likes are the BPS Ascend ones and the Old Town Vapor 10 angler.
  14. Which 2 piece Avid do you have? I've been thinking about getting one and I've been going back and forth between the 6'6" medium fast and the 7' medium fast spinning rods.
  15. Went a little crazy last weekend and bought a ping pong table, a Dewalt 18 volt cordless tool kit that came with a hammerdrill, circular saw, reciprocating saw, and a worklight, and a Perception Caster 12.5 angler kayak. After telling myself all week I couldn't spend any money on things I don't need this weekend, I just came home with 2 new savage gear swimbaits and one each 1 and 2 oz. Hopkins jigging spoons.
  16. I went to Sportsman's Warehouse today, and they had a paddle there called the Bending Branches Angler Scout. It has a fish ruler built into the handle, and one of the paddle blades has a little cutout to slip over your line for use as a lure retriever, which seemed like a neat feature. Does anyone have any experience with this paddle, and if I went with a different paddle is there any reason I couldn't make my own lure retriever cutout? I'm not sure about the price on this one, as other than the fishing specific features, It's listed specs are pretty similar to the Carlisle Day Tripper, which Academy has for $40 right now, and I liked that paddle when I saw it in the store. Here's a link to the paddle, the cutout I'm talking about is on the bottom left blade in the picture. http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.com/sportsmans/Bending-Branches-Angler-Scout-Kayak-Paddle/productDetail/Paddles-and-Oars/prod999901362464/cat101225
  17. I still use casette tapes! My car is a 1999 with a tape player, so I go into goodwill and buy casettes of stuff I like for $.99 each to play in the car.
  18. Pretty cool camouflage, but am I the only one who was expecting this to be one of those gags where the screaming monster pops up on screen, and then was a little disappointed when it wasn't?
  19. Depends on the brand and model. A lot of reels have a thumbscrew on the handle side that you undo which allows you to twist the palming sideplate off. Most Shimanos have a trapdoor mechanism on the palming sideplate that you open and twist to get the sideplate off. My Ardent has a little lever on the bottom of the reel for removing the palming sideplate. To remove the handle sideplate on just about any reel, you'll need to remove the handle and drag star, then undo the screws holding the sideplate to the frame.
  20. I was 7 for the first fish I remember catching, but my parents have pictures of me holding fish I caught when I was 3 or 4. it's kind of weird to me that I remember lots of things from when I was 3 or 4, but not fishing, even though I evidently did.
  21. Did you hear about the constipated mathematician? He worked his problems out with a pencil.
  22. Next time you get the urge to go to the tackle shop, go fishing instead. This should work until you break off enough that you need to stock back up, or until you're on the way to the lake and realize you forgot your spinnerbaits, and it'll be quicker to stop at the store to get a couple than to go all the way home, and then you walk in and last year's rods are on clearance...
