spinning reel - what pound line?
hello all I have a friend that just purchased a spinning reel kit from cabalas for his son. he came to me asking what pound test he can place on this reel. im not fimiliar with spinning reels at all, so i couldn't add any advice. i am attaching the link which shows what he bought. he says that he needs a very broad line that he can fish anything with. he says that he'll be throwing a worm on the end and some days. lures. can anyone offer any advice so i can pass it on to him? http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0052265122648a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&No=72&Ntk=Products&QueryText=fishing+travel&sort=all&_D%3AhasJS=+&selectedPerPage=72&N=0&firstPage=true&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1

when practicing, is it ok to use a 3/8 or 1/2oz sinker? or is better to use a crankbait?

first time out with new rod/reel - backlash!!!!
ok, one last question, then ill put this to sleep, as long as nothing else goes wrong but, i have a reel that has backlash. can i back the line off the reel till it disapears? or do i have to replace the line everytime with new? it looks like the birds nest is in pretty deep. i dont wanna use jacked up line and have a chance of it getting tangled due to the kinks.

first time out with new rod/reel - backlash!!!!
thanks guys. i can see what i did wrong now but if i am limited to only being able to fish from the shore, i dont have access to deeper waters. so i am trying to cast out as far as i can to get a deeper drop. are baitcasters best with a boat? or does it not matter?

first time out with new rod/reel - backlash!!!!
when i first received the reel i rad how to adjust that tension knob. i set it per the instruction of tighten so that when you pusht eh release button, the lure will slowly fall to the ground. slowly as in not stop but slowly work its way to the floor. the instructions said to do that, so i did. i have a BPS extreme bait caster. ETX10HD. how was i to ask for help if i didnt have any issues......yet

first time out with new rod/reel - backlash!!!!
you know, i was really looking forward to today......60-65 degree weather, great day for fishing. i decided to go to the local lake today and fish (from the shore). first cast out....................BACKLASH! this was the first time i ever fished and gotten backlash. I just bought a baitcaster reel in the off season. never used it beofre till now. as frustrating as everyone knows this is, how do i avoid this and why did it happen? i clicked teh release button (all was fine), threw the crankbait out and it became one big mess. im not giving up hope yet, i still have till the end of summer for things to turn around. as my signature states, "still trying to catch something", it looks liek that quote will live for another day any help or advice?

Action Lake Cowan Lake Paint Creek Lake Caesar Creek Lake Stonelick Lake Rush Run Lake Grant Lake looks like i have quite a few holes to check out this summer!!

walleye crank baits
hello all. i was under the impression that most walleye fishing is done with a spinner reel. i just received in the mail a BPS catalog which emphasizes on northern fishing. they actually have walleye crankbaits advertised, which is great for me cause i have a baitcaster reel. now to my question. if some of these crankbaits can be used for walleye fishing, can you guys list some crankbait models that you have had the most success with? I am going to be taking a trip up north to lake erie at the beginning of April and would like to be prepared with some excellent walleye bait!!! any suggestions? i know the water wont actually be warm at this time but hopefully you can help me on the best lures/procedure to fish them thank you reds_21

which fishing line is corrrect.......if any?
i have done quite a bit of reading about the type of line to use for the type of bait you are fishing with. With the fishing season coming upon us, i am trying to make my final decision. the info that i have found at one place is kinda contridicting what i have read at another place. would anyone like to set me straight? id hate to use the wrong line, have it snap and lose a good bait at the end of the hook. below is the list of line that i am being recommended to use. please correct me if any of the information is WAY wong. Shaky Head - 8/10/12lb Fluoro Soft Plastics - 15/17/20lb Fluoro Swimming Jigs - 12/15/17/20 Fluoro Football Jigs - 12/15lb Fluoro Standard Jigs - 17/20/25 Fluoro Jerk Baits - 8/10/12lb Fluoro Hard Body Top Waters - 14/17/20 Mono Wacky Worming - 4/6/8lb Fluoro Lipless Cranks - 10/12/14/17 Fluoro Frogs/Toads - 30-65 Braid Crankbaits - 10/12/15 Fluoro Its odd how most of these baits are all being recommended with Fluor but i thought Mono would be good for the majority of these. I would have a number of lines for all my poles (that i dont have), but right now i have one rod/reel. It is a baitcaster and i am looking to pick one line that can be suited for all. all the baits i have listed above are the ones that i plan on using. is it possible to use all with a baitcaster and one lb of line? any help would be appreciated. :-[

BPS Spring Classic.. What did you get?
Well since i have a BPS about 30 minutes away i did decide to stop in and see what kind of deals they had. there were a few things on sale but no sales on anything i was interested in. so since i bought some crankbaits prior, i had to buy a *bigger* tacklebox to hold all. so i did get a BPS bag style tackle box that was on sale for like $25 compared to $40. I will go back on the 6th of March, they are having a few seminars that id like to see. so we'll see then what hops in my cart ;D

reel grease/oil
I am in the process of shopping around for reel grease and/or oil. i have found a few at BPS ranging from $3-$10. I hear a lot of good things about the Abu Garcia brand which is closer to the $3 range and i also hear a lot about the Quantum Hot Sauce which is closer to the $10 range. what is the difference between reel OIL and reel GREASE. are they both one in the same or do you need both? i have looked at local Walmart and cannot find reel grease nor oil. i dont mind buying it from local BPS but not sure if i need both. any help?

crappie tackle help
hello everyone. I know that this is not a bass fishing thread but i have a question about crappie fishing tackle. i recently subscribed to crappie magazine and i was given a free tackle kit which contained an assortment of baits. the kit contained 1.5" crappie shads/1.75" super tubes/crappie magnums/1.5" teaser tails/1.5" lit'l hard heads. all in differnet colors. i am providing a lilnk below which will take you to a website that distributes these kits and also so you can get an idea of what i received http://www.southernpro.com/product_showcase.cfm my question is this. i have an extreme baitcaster rod/reel combo (6'-6", lure weight 3/8-1oz, 10-20lb line weight, MH)...........can i use this rod for these baits? if not, what kind of set up is required to fish these baits? by the size of the baits, it doesnt look like it would take much. anybody out there that can help me with crappie fishing i would greatly appreciate it. oh, one more thing. what is the best way to set these baits up with hooks? they are really small and im not sure the best way to go thank you in advance
