  1. Wanna get plugged up...eat some Military MRE's...they'll plug ya up for days and its a real PITA (no pun intended) when you finally go...
  2. That's also known as a Brown Trout
  3. I cut my teeth Bass fishing on a Kinami Flash (exactly the same as a Senko, marketed by Gary Yamamotos son) and a couple of days later I tried the Strike King Zero. Had a fish actually jump out of the water to catch the bait in midair before the bait even hit the water. The Zeroes caught fish very well... Kinami Flash and GYCB Senkos catch fish like crazy, but aren't very durable, they last only a few fish and then you might run into the issue of the bait tearing and if you're using a baitcaster...that nasty "professional overrun" aka birdsnest. Knock offs are cheaper and catch quality fish just the same but may have a different fall rate and a more subtle action...my vote is for the knock offs
  4. Late last season I started fishing a hollow bodied frog. Didnt get a good chance to really try it out, the rainy season showed up and i hardly had a chance to get back on the water. I wanna try again this year and have stocked up on different brands. I've got Spro, Booyah, Live Target, Strike King, H2O Express,Boze, Snagproof and Scumdog varieties. So as far as storage goes are the materials on each brand pretty much the same? I ask because I don't want to store them together and have some kind of chemical reaction happen from disimilar material. Will colors bleed from one to the other? Traditional soft plastics like worms react, bleed colors and such...do I have to be concerned about this with these frogs? Maybe a dumb question but I've got a fair amount of money invested in these and want to make sure I don't destroy them in storage.
  5. So I'm getting ready to wire up the yard sale fish finder I recently acquired...I confirmed it powered up and now am ready to install. I have always been puzzled about the different size wireless and how to properly connect them. There are the very thin wires (red+ black-) and then there's a fuse holder which is significantly thicker. How do I link these wires together? A standard butt connector(blue) won't crimp down on that tiny gauge wire. Do I just solder them together and lay shrink tubing over the joint that's been soldered? How does everyone else wire thier fish finders when it comes to the difference in wire size. Remember this isn't some side/top/3D/microwave/TV/spacestation fish finder like all the new $30&$40k rigs have...I'm working with a 90's era Eagle Magna III on a 12' jon boat...it doesn't have to be pretty, but I sure would appreciate it functioning properly.
  6. Tested the head unit on Magna III and it lights up, lcd looks as it should so there's a new graph going on my jon boat this weekend...can't wait to try it out...
  7. A moving bait like a crankbait, or spinnerbait is all about a reaction strike. Those pretty finishes and paint schemes aren't the same when its moving through the water...they blend together and maybe even form a different color all together. The fish don't analyze the reality of a bait..I think its more of a size, shape and profile thing. Moving baits also give off vibration...run a crankbait just under the surface while trolling and watch the disturbance behind it. Basically a fish sees something moving and doesn't want to let it get away.
  8. So just like a lot of us that fish out of smaller vessels, I'm sure there are lots that are always looking to upgrade to something bigger. I constantly surfing Craigslist looking for good deals. When I find a price that fits my budget, how will I know I'm getting my moneys worth? What are somethings to look for on a used boat? Like say Basstracker modied v hull... What are some plus items to look for? On the other hand...what are some "run away fast" deal breaker items to look for? How bout test drive? The only local lakes around here are like 1-1/2 -2hrs away. If the seller doesn't want to take the time to show the boat at a lake, and allow a test drive...is that a red flag or just a seller that doesn't have time or doesn't want to bother with a test drive. I fully understand...you get a potential buyer, take time and spend $$$ on fuel to take the boat to the lake, and the interested party is either a no show or decides not to buy the boat. Suppose from the sellers point of view, selling a boat can be a pain if there isn't any water nearby. Closest lake I fish only allows a 9.9hp max outboard...
  9. All responses help immensely...thank you
  10. I know that Moaner makes a hook specifically for this, my local Walmart had thier weighted Mustad swimbait hooks with the adjustable weight on clearance...each pack was $1.00...3 per pack. At that price I wiped em out. So would this Brand and style hook be an acceptable substitute to the Moaner Rage Rig hook? On which Ragetail baits does the Rage Rig work well on? Which Ragetail baits won't the Rage rig work on? As far as Rage rigging, what's a good all around hook size for each different Ragetail bait Space Monkey Smokin Rooster Rage Craw Rage Lobster Anaconda 7&10 inch Thumper Hawg I've read the Eeliminator doesn't do well with the Rage rig so that's out...
  11. Over the past month I've purchased several new Bronzeye 65 frogs in different colors. I have one in rainforest black, one in nasty shad, a poppin version in the tree color and a regular 65 in the halloween color. All the finishes on these are glossy with the exception of the Nasty Shad color, its a natural matte color. The glossy ones are way stiffer than that Nasty Shad colored one... Anyone know why some are more stiff than the others. Any tricks to soften the stiffer ones up?
  12. Years ago I was looking in the Bass Pro catalog and remember seeing a rod that had no guides...the line wss fed directly through the blank. Anyone remember this...who made it and what was it called? Anyone use the setup?
  13. I assume every Megastrike user applies it to Baits geared toward targeting Bass. Is that what it specifically formulated for? Anyone ever caught a species other than Bass while using Megastrike? Was it the Megastrike or was it the bait/lure. Now there's different flavors too. Crawfish, Garlic and Pike. Well...Trout and Catfish like Garlic, If Crawfish are present in a body of water, then almost any carnivorous species in that water will eat them. So does that mean Megastrike can be used to catch fish OTHER than Bass...or are you more likely to catch Bass when using the Original, Garlic and Crawfish formulas? I'm asking because I want to concoct some Catfish bait and wondered if Megastrike may give an edge. Oh and may I ask what's so specific about the Pike Formula? Does it have ground up baby ducks in it? Cause as far as I know, a Pikes diet is similar to a Bass...they eat stuff that swims...Trout and anything else that fits in thier mouth...
  14. Now what I've been told...and believe is pure crap, is that the salt a fish tastes on a bait upon striking it, is supposed to be the same salty flavor given off by prey when they bleed. Horsesh*t... a Bass is not a Shark. It doesn't have sharp teeth to puncture its prey and make it bleed. The teeth a Bass has are meant for holding prey.A lot of times a Bass will just engulf/inhale its prey.I believe a Bass doesn't feed on prey because it tastes good, but because its hungry or sees an easy meal/opportunity
  15. I haven't gone Catfishing in years. The lake I fish was all fished out of cats years ago. Last year they reintroduced Channels. Late April this year they put 1500 lbs of Channels back into the lake. Saw one a week ago that wouldve gone 5lbs+ easy.
  16. Its been my learning that Flatheads mainly go for live bait...so this question doesn't appky to them. I think it might be geared more towards Blues and Channel cats. So Walmart clearance had some Magic Bait Brand Big Squeeze Shad flavored paste in a tube for $1.50 a tube. I cleaned em out just because and got 4 tubes. Is this stuff any good? Or did I just waste my money?
  17. Well I've checked Transducers and part numbers as Gramps50 suggested, they don't interchange. However they are the same "skimmer"style and I still have the mount on my TM,so all I gotta do is mount it up and wire it and ill be good to go.Before I do that, ill test the head unit on a battery to ensure it functions.
  18. I've got my 12' jon at a TIG capable shop right now.I've had a few cracks in the floor from the boat bouncing and making contact with the rollers on the trailer.Normally the repairs take about an hour ($25 labor), but this time I'm having them reinforce an area where a previous repair was made, but a crack opened just above it. The key is finding a shop that can weld aluminum (TIG) not all welding shops are equipped or capable.
  19. I'm in a 12' jon boat so I'm not expecting much. I was using an Eagle Cuda unit until I busted the transducer off when the transducer cable got into the prop on my TM That whole unit was like $80 a replacement transducer is like $70for that unit...umm no thanks... I really don't know how to read these things anyway, I just read the depth and temp, I watch the bottom contourfor any drastic changes. Ill wire it up, if it works and I happen to break the transducer off again for some reason, not a big deal,id only be out a little cash...not a deal breaker anyway you look at it.
  20. Found 2 graphs at a yard sale. Picked both of them up with a pair of headphones for $10 One of them looks brand new. Nothing has ever been taken out of the packing and it still has the protective covering on the screen. Eveything appears to be there, transducer, power cable...it is missing the instruction manual(sourced a copy on Ebay) and theres no mount...a generic U shaped bracket for a CB should do the trick. Its an Eagle Magna III. Anyone know anything about this unit...age and such and maybe retail cost. The other one is an Eagle Supra Pro ID.Nothing but the head unit on this one.Seller claims it works... So how did I do on this haul...?
  21. Best way I learned to fish topwater baits and time the hookset is at night. Youll need to use your feel more than your eyes. Sometimes the noises made at night may not even be a fish but a nearby bird. At night if you swing on every noise you hear...well you'll haul lots of water. Feel for the fish, and as it happens Sometimes, you'll set the hook, swear you have the fish, and haul in nothing but salad. Teach yourself to feel the fish at night, become successful at that, and do the same thing during your bites in the daylight. Braid is your friend...it helps cut through the vegetation.
  22. I picked up the poppin pad crasher on Ebay...
  23. Numbers on the bottom of reel foot are as follows: 090115/52
