  1. i use a BROWNING fish binder , i put the original package into the binder sleeves , works excellent !! i've recently down sized from my OKEECHOBEE FATS 8 370 tackle bag to a back pack . now i carry 2 370 sized trays and the binder plus 2 5x9 terminal tackle trays for my hooks and such . but to get to the point , check out the binder i'm talking about , you'll love it ... http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_103999_100011010_100000000_100011000_100-11-10
  2. cane toads are good , but get some rage tail toads or CANYON PLASTICS 4.5'' frogs , those things work very good . zoom horny toads are way to light and don't cast far because of it . it never hurts to have more than a FEW choices in your tackle box , i know i do !!!
  3. i don't know about that tail hook placement , looks kinda iffy to me . i couldn't imagine haulin a double digit bass to the shore or boat by that hook.
  4. those baits are truely spectacular to say the least , the female and male are my choices , yeah i'm gonna get both , in floating AND sinking models !!!! but i think bass have the tendancy to be more aggressive towards the males . i some times fish with bluegills (live) and i always try to catch big males and they seem to really try to crush them .
  5. my advice is to go with the SPRO BBZ-1 SHAD .a little bigger profile and great swimming action . but if u want a good blue gill imitator , get a JACKALL GIRON , about the same price and let me tell you , THEY WORK !!!!
  6. i think i just might try that ! the only bait from the rage tail line up that i don't care for is the ''anaconda'' , but maybe i'll give it some more time (i got the 7'' green pumpkin). i don't fish jigs so i never usaully get craws , but that ''lobster'' looks big enough to fish top water like a toad , so me and the bait monkey will add more baits to get (to a huge and still growing list :-/) this coming week ;D
  7. i use the green pumpkin / pearl belly rage tail toad with grat success!!! i use a Owner 5/0 ewg hook and instead of just runnin' it across the top , i make it hop , pause it and let it glide and swim it a bit , then pull it to the surface , and slow roll it , you can't fish it wrong !!! this is my favorite time of the year , frog fishing time ;D ;D ;D
  8. x2 , i love the oversize worm hooks made by OWNER , i use the 7/0 size for my 10'' power worms , zoom ole' monsters , and zoom ss magnums.
  9. sometimes i wonder why people use ''clear'' line any more , most manufactures make a low-vis green line that blends in 99.9% of the water that bass live in . i fish ''gin-clear lakes that the green line is much more invisible than the so called ''clear'' line. im still waiting for BPS to make their XPS flourocarbon in a green color . i also love ''smoke'' colored line like Izorline XXX.
  10. oh yeah, caught a 7lb.6oz toad on a green pumpkin/pearl belly rage tail toad . ( pic. of it in my sig.) these things are sweet , have to get a couple more packages this coming week !!!
  11. rangers found her last memorial day.(or was is the year before :-?)
  12. i know there are HUGE bass in the lake i fish (dixon) about two -three weeks ago i saw a 15-18# bass with with a 3-4# trout sticking out of her mouth. and have had other giants follow my swimbaits. they make me want to dive in after them ;D. anyhow , huge bass will continue to be caught , maybe not neccesarily in the lakes we think they will be . i guess that's the magic of bass fishing , you never know what your gonna catch........
  13. i have the 7' xh carrot stick and fish it with 30# power pro and it's actually not that noisy compared to the spinning rods i also use braid on . but to repeat what all carrot stick owners will tell you , ''braid is NOT an issue.''
  14. fish it slooooow, let it sit till you feel weight ,THEN , set the hook.my best bite on frogs is when i let it sit , force myself to WAIT. YOU WAIT, THEY WILL COME
  15. im pretty sure the guys from canada, actually quebec. probably not to good at english , maybe give him a break.. :
  16. use big , wide gap hooks that almost set them selves when a bass tries to crush the frog , yes , bass try to crush it so as to not let the frog get away , almost i guess you would call it ''stunning him'' so as to be able to then swallow it with out it getting away.i use 5/0 or 6/0 ewg hooks and OWNER twistlock un-weighted hooks with huge success .
  17. Matt's talkin' about dixon lake , i fish there ALOT , and yes there are huge bass still in there , put it this way , i've seen bass well into the teens. any how , that lake gets pounded day in and day out!!! fish that are big , dominant females stay in a small area most of there life once they have found a spot that has optimal ambush spots and is deep but close to shallow ,spawning type ground . for instance , ''dottie'' was living in a spot that is at the bottom of a steep drop off , almost a wall, that she would pin trout against to feed on. but this was right close to the shallows to spawn . she would get off that spawning spot real quick , that's why she was hard to spot let alone catch . i think these bass see people and very quickly go deep (Dixon lake is very clear) . alot of times you can't even see them ever . for instance , i'll probably hear crap for this but this is the truth, i won't mention what lake this was at , but a really big bass that Mike long was tryin' to catch was being very elusive and would only come shallow when the park was closed. well one night after this lake closed the rangers making their rounds spotted this huge bass and called mike to come back and actually let him fish and catch her it was actually allowed to be a lake record, pretty sad huh. anyway , just an example of how elusive these big bass are and how hard it is to target them , and as Matt said, can get quite expensive!!!
  18. they go for around a hundred bucks.....
  19. use real dark color baits , they cause a silhouette that can be seen by the bass . kinda the same principal as you would use night fishing.
  20. my experience with Yo-zuri ultra-soft in 4 lb. test is that it's WAAAAY too stretchy , hook sets are a task . i would go up to 6 lb. test if not 8 lb. just my opinion......
  21. that rod is sweet!! , i love split EVA grips ( i have a Carrotstick) . the swimbait rod im having made is designed after the Cara split- grip stick , but with EVA grips and Fuji ACS reel seat
  22. i found a solution , i put the original paddle handles from the SX onto the BPS power handle (went right on) the bps paddle grips had nylon bushings instead of bearings like the SX has so now im set . thanks for the feedback
  23. i don't use attractants on frogs , it more of a reaction strike than a slowly come up and taste it bite, like say a power worm. the bass come up and crush frogs for fear they will get away from them ,so when they hit it ,they hit it good ,usually the only time they would spit it out is if you were daydreaming and didn't see or feel the bite and didn't feel her on the line and didn't set the hook.
  24. first off , i would never eat a bass , but since i eat trout , i never be-head a trout or gut him. i just cut just past the gills and down to the ribs (easy now don't be tryin' to cut thru the ribs)then startmaking my way towards the tail, going high on the top(dorsal fin) , once you feel the ribs you just turn the knife horizontal to the ribs and you'll just be grazing them, when you get to close to the tail, stop(don't cut all the way thru), flip the fillet over with your knife , cut thru the fillet to the skin , then run the knife between the fillet and skin, and repeat on other side. this way you don't have to gut it or take it's head off . much cleaner. and what ever you do don't leave the carcass in your trash can or you'll have a foul smell in 2-3 days. take to a field and chuck it!!
  25. has to be Tim Horton , guys a great fisherman and a pro i would love to learn alot from . seems like a genuine nice guy without a huge ego.
