Big Bait Fishing

i fish big worms (Uptons Custom Baits ) weightless on an Owner oversize worm hook in 7/0 , i fish it over the tops of submerged grass in up to 15 ft. of water , slowly twitching it across the top of the grass trying not to let it get snagged .

most lakes in California are water resevoirs ,so water contact is prohibited , if i lose a bait in deep water , it's gone !! i have seen people go thru tules in the shallow waters to get hung up baits .

the Fuji SK2 spinning reel seat is very comfortable in my opinion , i know a lot of people don't like the SK2 casting reel seat , but i like it as i palm my reels so pretty much just use the trigger portion of the reel . I like a minamilistic reel seat , Fuji fits the bill , minimas aren't that comfortable .

go with a full custom , look into spinning rod blanks for the taper and backbone your'e looking for , i'm thinking of having one built but not for that light of lure rating , gonna build on a Phenix ultra 707ML , gonna use it for weightless stickbaits and small crankbaits , good luck ..

that line is about 2-3 weeks , I've fished it about 10 times . i put some L & L on it when i spooled it up and once or twice i sprayed the spool the night before i planned to go fish the next day .

most people texas rig them, if they wacky rigged them the hook would rip out on the cast unless you used o- rings , zip ties , or the tubing mentioned . i don't like to do all that so i buy baits that work for me , most all other stick baits stay on the hook when you cast them ...

i don't hear any noise from my gears in my reel , but i can hear the level wind , it makes some sound as it works ..

i'm wondering if i should just not use the L & L conditioner on it .

so i used some KVD L&L on my 14 lb. Sunline Sniper and noticed my line getting a little chalky , the L&L has done nothing that i can see to improve the line , anyone have any issues like this ??

cause they fly right off on the cast !! the senko is way to soft , and i don't like the o-rings and other ways to rig them . i just use durable baits , i use an Owner 1/0 wacky hook .

i use 5'' stick baits but i wacky rig them 97% of the time , so Senko's are out . i use Big Bite Baits Trick Sticks in the 25 ct. pack , my favorite color is the '' Tilapia '' , great action and good mix of softness but still durable ...

once you have custom rods , fishing factory rods doesn't cut it at all ....

TW has them , they have the '' black blue '' , in the picture of them they are black with blue flake . edit : they don't have the 5 '' , but you can probably '' kut'' them down to that size

hopefully the guide feet were prepped right and set right .

i think the natural shad is even better than the blue gizzard shad . almost same colors but more realistic ...

don't forget to add some gills to your bait

trailer hooks are not needed on this bait , i never use trailer hooks on any swimbait ... i use an Owner ST-41 treble hook with one hook point cut down , now it sits better in the bait's hook pocket and sits a little lower on the bait .

after throwing swimbaits for a good while and spending a lot of money on them then losing them , buying $20 crankbaits that float and are retrievable(after they seperate from your line) that are quality fish catchers in the right situations , it gets easier to justify the purchase .
