  1. because of removing the blank finish ? that's a no , i did it to my 9' big nasty , don't you think i would have checked before i did that to a $280 blank ....
  2. Wow , totally missed the bait you were talking about, anyhow , look for a rod with a lure rating of up to 8 oz .that is unless your fishing a St.Croix ...
  3. are your guides possibly bent ??
  4. most of you guys are lucky , living in california , we are limited to 3 baits with hooks on them , i would love to fish a big ol' bait ball of about 10 baits !!
  5. if it works for you use it . i tie an improved clinch all the time and it works for me ..
  6. that looks to be a good set up for you , i'd get the 7' MH , spool it up with some cheap line till you get the hang of using a baitcaster , when i first started to use a baitcaster , i messed up and bought some expensive line and after 2 hours trying to get the hang of the reel , i had destroyed the line by 5 too many birdsnests !!! when you first start to cast the bait caster , tie on at least a half oz. weight to practice cast with , it will make learning a lot easier !! good luck and stay with it as you will love using a baitcaster , i guarantee it !!
  7. Red Eye Shad for me is the hot bait in the summer ....
  8. wait till when you cast off a $50 bait and you watch it sink to the bottom of the lake , all part of the swimbait game ....
  9. throwing buzz frogs in shallow water , some times even open water
  10. next time you spool up that rod , try some Sufix 832 in Neon Lime , excellent for line watching / high visibility and it also blends in with the water (no need for the Sharpie !!)
  11. no one condemned them , just wondering why with all the problems and shoddy work on the rods that people would continue to fork out over $500 plus on these .....
  12. might make a good finnese rod to be used with light line, assuming your talking about a casting rod , i've been thinking of putting together a finesse rod built on a Phenix 7'7'' medium light / fast action blank , would pair it with a Lew's tournament Lite with 8 lb. Sniper ....
  13. check out the post about 15 lb. braid , that's what you need to be doing !!! quit messing with thick mono on that new reel set up you just got , give yourself a break !!!
  14. easy on those hooksets !!! get some sharp hooks
  15. i have a tundra long bed with a 8' bed , that said i have rods that are 8'6 and 9' , i went to home depot and bought a 3'' x 10' black pvc pipe , added a cleanout (a screw cap ) and an end cap , think it cost me around $25 , buy the 10' pipe and then you can cut it down to your needs ,
  16. i guess i go against common thought because it doesn't matter if i'm using a top hook swimbait or size 4 trebles on a red eye shed , once hooked up , i reel them in the same way , get them to the top and wind them in , I've never felt the need for play in the rod to keep the treble hooks pinned and not ripped out of the fishes mouth as most people believe . yes , i use a heavy powered rod for all my baitcasting , the same rod is used for crankbaits , jigs , worms , weightless plastics , frogs , etc..
  17. I'm a bomb caster , short rod handles ain't working !! they will wear you out fishing all day , with a long handle (18'') on my swimbait rod , i can cast all day throwing big baits . That's why you get a custom rod made !!!
  18. natural cork was in shortage for a while , don't know if it's stil ... edit , it's not in shortage , just cheaper with other materials
  19. that's probably the chemicals in the plastics , swimbaits often come like that , use a good scent on them , i prefer Pro Cure ..
  20. you are pretty much limited to hollow body swimbaits , until you get a rod suitable to throw heavier baits ..
