  1. i think they are ALOT better than rattle traps . the red eye shad has much better action (a tighter wobble !!!). plus the red eye shad is deadly with it's flutting fall when you stop your retrieve but keep the slack out of the line . i only use the 3/4 oz. red eye's and once in awhile throw the 1/2 oz.
  2. are you tossing the bait into grass or are you punching thru a thick mat ??? the mats i punch a 1/2 oz. weight would not even start to go thru !! i use a 1 oz. weight minimum . anyhow , punch skirts work good , the ones i had got hung up(not the skirt , the hook so i lost the whole rig ) and are gone . most of the skirts come in two packs so get a pack and give them a try
  3. you might want to check around more if you think that Simmons is the best place on ebay :
  4. I like stiffer braid too. I can't stand getting wind knots and the stupid line wrapped around the tip > I may try a spool of each and see which I like Better if you have never heard of Cortland Master braid , if you know some guys that fish for muskie , ask them , i would say 75% of them love the stuff and will not use anything else . it is also is one of the best braids for throwing big baits ( muskie guys throw HUGE baits with this braid cause it is that good !)
  5. 30-50 lb. braid for both . braid keeps the bait on top more than co-poly or mono would plus it is alot stronger for dealing with grass and other rip-rap ....
  6. with 20 lb. braid or smaller , the more "soft" the line is the more your succeptible to wind knots and having the line wrap around your rod . haven't you ever noticed that when power pro is new (and stiff) that you don't get the wind knots ?? but when it softens up you start to get them ??? if you want a soft line that is the trade off . i myself prefer a stiffer line , if you do too , check out some different braids like Cortland Master braid http://www.cortlandline.com/products/default.asp?id=517 and if you want more reading on braid - http://www.cortlandline.com/content.asp?id=709 hope this helps
  7. one of the best reel sellers on ebay is Lakeside Reels , on most of his stuff he has free shipping and the shipping is priority mail (2 day delivery) an excellent guy to do buisness with , if you look at his website , he lists a phone number that you can call and actually talk to him !!!!
  8. Canyon Plastics 4.5" frog , best frog i have ever used !!!! http://www.***.com/Canyon_Plastics_Frog/descpage-CPF.html
  9. alot of people leave the orange seal off of the bearing because they are a pain to put back on without it rubbing . Boca now has a stainless sheild that is easier to put back on so you will be finding more people having the "seal" put on after servicing . as far as the ABEC 7 bearing , they are steel bearings , the regular Orange Seals are ceramic and they make a distinct whine which some don't like . if i ever change out my spool bearings , i will go with the ABEC 7 steel bearings ..........
  10. super tunning a baitcaster is the best upgrade you can do to get the most out of your reel , as far as the upgrade for ABU Revo drag , it is for the smoothness of the drag , not more drag strength , Revo's (minus the older Premier and Skeet Reese) have more than enough drag strength ; btw, i am also having Mike (delaware valley tackle , one of the site sponsors ) super tune my Revo SX followed by him doing my Inshore and Toro 51 . mike has always answered my questions and concerns , very pleasent to talk to . another thing is he has always taken my call promtly , every time . get your reels to him soon , he is gonna be really busy as more people send him work , he sure is gonna get mine
  11. i use the 5/0 Owner twist locks for the smaller sized frogs . another good tip is to swap out the CPS springs for the bigger 1/4" size(large) ones
  12. Owner twistlocks work great .....
  13. Yeah, it's basically a shallow diving crankbait with a lively tail. I've caught some big fish on that. One thing about Castaic though, one has to test it in the water first. Their quality has been shot to heck since they sold out. Castaic has been worthless for awhile .....
  14. here are a couple of hard swimbait crappies the top one is a tylures crappie and the bottom one is a Mattlures hard crappie
  15. NO YOU ARE NOT !!! 95% of the members on here have the same affliction
  16. you do know that they are selling a PACK OF 50 , not 50 packs , right ?? :-?
  17. read this page and there is a number to call http://www.penrodsguides.com/fishingreport.htm
  18. that is your problem !!! why would you go from a great hook to a semi-good hook ??? you best get them Owner hooks tied back on the end of your line , doesn't seem like a difficult fix to me . give the Gamakatsu hooks to some one that doesn't have much tackle , that's what i did when i found that Owner hooks are alot better than Gammies .........
  19. the bait monkey says not to buy one rod but buy two or three , you can't fish with just a 4'6" ultra light , come on man , get with it ;D ;D ;D
  20. i myself would not buy it . i would just use a leader of mono or co-poly for a shock leader . and 150 yards for 20 bucks is a little steep when i can spend 5 bucks more and get 300 yards of power pro
  21. you gotta love St.Croix !!! , a few rods i have planned to get built are gonna be built on their blanks
  22. if your getting it spooled at the tackle shop , ask the guy behind the counter what he has that is decent and CHEAP !!! after you get the hang of the reel and are ready to go fishing , get it spooled up with one of the better lines ( in this post , alot of good lines have been mentioned ) pick one and see how you like it
  23. i would just buy a NFC 766-1 blank ( 7'6" heavy , moderate fast action flipping rod blank ) and have it custom wrapped and have the FULL warranty .....
  24. check out the Daiwa Aggrest http://www.***.com/Daiwa_Aggrest_Casting_Reels/descpage-DAGCR.html
