Sanding cork?
I hate the size of the cork grip on one of my rods. Can I just use regular sandpaper to make it a little thinner and if so what grit would be best?

Hudson Canyon Tuna
Thanks guys. Snook, Not enough time for that. Rat, 24 hr. trip with 20 guys on an 80 footer. As far as I know, there are no chairs, you fight everything on your feet. As for rest and drinking, I'm going to a wedding the night before. I'll try to spend more time at the buffet than at the bar and sleep while we're motoring out. I'm making up 50lb and 80lb flouro leaders with 5/0 Gamma heavy weight live bait hooks. I think we'll be suspending sardines in a chum-slick. From what I hear, once your line starts ripping out, you count to 5 or 8 and then engage the drag and hold on. As soon as the fish stops taking line, you start reeling and don't stop until he's in the boat. I hope to get at least one. I'll let you know and post a pic if I do.

Hudson Canyon Tuna
I'm taking a Tuna trip out of Pt. Pleasant N.J. in a few weeks. I've never fished for tuna or anything else that far out. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you had to pick one Pike bait...
I just got back from Northern Quebec. Over 4 days, 12 guys, we pulled in hudreds of pike on every lure in the box. Most consistent were spinnerbaits with red/white, blue/white combo. Len Thomson's "Five of Diamonds" spoons were also consistant. Big fish of the trip was taken on a 1 lb walleye that was already hooked up on a big spoon. 14 lber that my buddy released. We ate some of the 3-4 lbers and they were better than the walleyes. Good luck.

Wake Baits?
How are you working these? Constant retrieve or pausing?

Favorite catfish bait ...??
Ha! Good point. I'll do some research on "barbel-receptors". As for freshness, I can only go by what the butcher says. If I could talk to the steer.....

Favorite catfish bait ...??
Roger, I love your posts/advice as well but I have to disagree with one of your points on this one. I've used both chicken and beef liver and I find that the beef is tougher than chicken and I think the scent of the beef is actually stronger and bloodier. I've caught pretty big cats on the beef livers and usually only catch little guys on the chicken. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Any advice for fishing for Walleye
I'm taking a trip to Quebec next weekend for pike and walleye. For the walleye, we'll be concentrating on the bottom, dragging spinner rigs/harnesses (featuring nightcrawlers) attached to 1/2 to 1 oz. bottom bouncers. Good luck.

Deep Hooking on Circle Hooks
I guess it was a flathead and not a bullhead. I need to learn the difference.

Deep Hooking on Circle Hooks
If you have your drag really loose it will give the fish time to swallow the hook. I keep my drag tight when going for cats. They pick up the bait and as soon as they swim away, the slack goes out of the line and the circle hook drops right into the corner of their mouth and sets itself. I don't see the line move, I see the rod bending over. Best so far this year is an 8lb bullhead on nightcrawlers. That's pretty big for my little lake.

Boat seat screws
I purchased new Action Copolymar boat seats this winter and mounted them in by boat. The other night while leaning back in one of them all for screws blew out of the bottom and sent me flipping over backwards. Pretty funny to watch I guess but I'm a little bruised up. Anyway, does anyone know of some sort of thread compound I can put on the screws to make them hold better when I screw them back in? Thanks in advance.

swimbait opinion
mrlite, if I want to run these at around 10-15 feet, what weight swimbait hook do you think I should use?

swimbait opinion
I'm thinking about buying these to use for Northern Pike in Quebec next month. I was thinking I could use the blue or blue and chartreuse JJ's magic to color the backs to look like the whitefish. I've never used swimbaits. If anyone has an opinion on these I'd appreciate it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=320371324538

never seen this before
I was top-water fishing last evening and catching a few bass on a Pop-R. As I was taking the lure out of one of the bigger ones I saw all of this black stuff sticking out of his gullet. So I grab hold of it to see if I can pull it out and find out what he's been eating and all I get is bunch of feathers. Looks like he ate a bird. Now that's a fish who really goes for top-water...above the water.
