  1. Thanks for the info. We'll be hosted by Air Melancon and fishing Baie du Nord. I'm planning on using night crawlers on worm harnesses for walleye and will load up on spinnerbaits for the pike. Were you using inline spinners like Mepps or safety-pin style?
  2. Thanks again Roger. However, I'm not familiar with the two-twist Figure-8 knot. Does it go by another name or can you direct me to a site that explains it?
  3. Roger, Thanks for the info. One question, I plan to use braided line and wire leaders. Can I go directly to the leader or do I need a short length of mono or flouro in between?

  5. Maybe only 2% of the population could imagine why someone would be keeping fish, cats, dogs and horses as pets instead of eating them. LOL! I think they only eat pets in China
  6. Setting the drag; I stand the rod in a rod-holder, tie a loop in the line and put the loop on the hook of my digital scale. I then pull the scale while walking away and watch the scale to see at what poundage the drag releases line and make adjustments to the drag until I have it right. I think the "rule of thumb" is to set the drag to release line at 1/3 of the lines breaking point. eg: If you're using 12# line, set the drag to release line at 4#s of pressure and try not to adjust it when you get a fish on. If you get a big one and he's taking line, let'em. You can get it back when he takes a break.
  7. If I don't get this in fast enough...
  8. It took me about 15 mins to solve this and most of it was spent writing down the colors, nationalities, drinks etc. and then taping them together to fit the clues. After that it was easy to lay the puzzle pieces out so they fit the clues. Maybe only 2% of the worlds population had access to paper, pen, scizzors and scotch tape when Einstein came up with this.
  9. I'm taking a fly-in trip to the Gouin Reservoir in mid July with about a dozen friends. If anyone has fished these waters I would greatly appreciate any advice you can give. We'll only be on the water for 4 days and I know it's a big place so locations, baits, techniques would all be a lot of help. Thanks in advance!!
  10. Anybody ever tried trolling with one of these at dusk/dark?
  11. Thanks guys, Two good/bad answers. I guess I'll just try to get it usable again and hit the Bass Resource Flea Market and look for a replacement.

I'm sure this has been covered already but I couldn't find with a search. I snapped the top foot of a ML spinning rod off this weekend and need to repair it. Can anyone recommend a good repair kit to put it back together?
  13. Wayne, Are you clipping to the ring or directly to the lure?
  14. Is it better to remove the split-ring from a rat-l-trap and just attach a speed clip or should I keep the split-ring and tie directly to it?
  15. If you haven't ruled Dell out yet, check out the Dell Outlet on Dell.com They sell refurbished machines at a discounted rate. The refurbs come with the same warranty as the new ones. There's a pretty large selection with all sizes of drives, installed memory, graphics, etc... I agree 100% with the advice to have a USB backup drive and to actually use it. Good luck at school!
  16. Braveheart First Blood The Princess Bride (no kidding)
  17. Did you read "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton? Swine Flu is the new Global Warming.
  18. Miller Highlife...The Champagne of Beers!!
  19. I hold my spinning reels/rods with the reel seat between my ring and middle finger. This puts my hand it the right position to hold then line with my forefinger on casts and just feels more balanced than having it on top or below it.
  20. I've always used spinning left hand retrieve gear also until I made the swith to baitcasters last year. I have both left and right hand biatcasters and tend to agree with you. I don't have any issues tranferring the rod to my left hand after casting or with reeling with my right. The big difference for me is twitching, jerking and working lures with my left hand. I figure this will come with time but, that said if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't have gotten the righty reels.
  21. Well, I got anxious and went ahead and ordered one. I'll try it out and post results if anyone is interested.
  22. I need to pick up a new rod to hold my BPS ProLight finesse reel. I don't have a lot of cash right now so I'm looking for a deal. I've seen the Pflueger President for about $50 on a few sites and was wondering if anyone has an opinion on these rods.
  23. Professional sports stars and rock stars are not fictional characters. They are people. An example of a fictional character would be Fred Flintstone or Gordon Gekko.
  24. I've tried about a 100 different concoctions over the years. From chicken livers, spam, dip baits, cat chunks, cut bait, all of the above with vanilla extract, blue cheese, fish oil, crawfish scent, powered strawberry jello rubbed on just to name a few. I usually end up with a smelly mess and maybe a catfish or two. But the one bait that consistantly produces for me is...night crawlers. I thread 2 or 3 of them on a circle hook and chuck it out there. They stay on the hook really well, I just have to rinse the dirt off my hands and the cats just can't resist them. I catch cats everytime out. Not just dinks either. 3 weeks ago I pulled in a 8lb flathead and last year a 12.5lb channel. These may not sound like much to some of you, but these are big fish for NJ.
  25. Will Real Magic improve the performance of YZH or do we have to use KVD L&L?
