  1. Nope. No point for a photo of a 5# (if that) fish when you're alone in the middle of the night, can't stretch it out to the camera and make it look like weighs 15#..............
  2. If it were me and the ci4 was my choice I'd go with a 2500 and med rod. I like line management better with a larger spool, should be well balanced and plenty light. A most important factor for me would be more versatile combination.
  3. Wish I knew I'd drive down there myself. Peacocks are best caught in daylight hours.
  4. There isn't a person in the world that lands every fish both big and small, any fish can be lost on the jump even a well hooked one. It doesn't make any difference if it's a big bass, snook, tarpon or even a sailfish, it's going to happen, your going to lose your fair share, I wouldn't list all my losses, lol. But you can give yourself an edge, a tight line and low rod and keep the pressure on. Many fish are lost due to of over excitement, the time to get excited is when the fish is on the deck, before and you given the edge to the fish. It isn't strength, it's technique, many small in stature people land bigger fish.
  5. The snook fishing has been very sub par the last few months. Maybe because it was the first day of spring I caught 2 snook. There are 4 species of snook that I'm aware of, the common snook which is the biggest, tarpon snook, swordspine snook and fat snook. We seldom see fat snook in our area, caught 2 of them yesterday, I may have caught but 3 or 4 or them in 10 years. These snook run only about 20", not a monumental fight, pretty easy really, but I was real happy to catch an unusual fish.
  6. I don't think it's a good idea, BR probably has more daily activity than any site I've been on, at times the clutter can be overwhelming. IMO reviews given by non professionals usually wind being a list of people's favorites and not a true review. Even a BPS review by users is something I don't put a lot of stock in, and I'm sure it's some of the same people on this site. Some of the real experts on here like Big-O seldom review products or so it seems to me, you wanna catch a big bass who better to ask than him? As mentioned there is a plethora of information already here and a wealth of solid information on the internet.
  7. I'm not a tax expert or an expert in interstate commerce but I would check with your own state on whether you need to pay sales tax, even for out of state customers. I also would not use my parents tax id, I'd get my own, minor little details that should affect nothing. As far as paying any fed, state income taxes, or even sales tax you would probably be required to do so, but, and this is only an opinion, a lot of the small business activity flies under the radar, no one will be furnishing a 1099, so you're on your honor. When it comes to business, people are not as honorable as you may think, lol. At the very least you'll gain some business knowledge, it sounds like this enterprise could be fun.
  8. As far as ruggedness nothing I have owned in the past or checked out for a future purchase was superior to my Casio Commando, even the quality from the earpiece on a phone call was the best I had. Can drop it, submerge it and all was well, battery life wasn't that good. Had it not been for a small 3.6" screen and slow internet response and a few other conveniences, I may have just kept in service. A lot of answers here http://androidforums.com/
  9. Kinda sounds like you make a good argument for rules to protect players from injuries. As both teams play under the same set of rules there is no advantage for either team. I like to see games with a good strong defense too, but don't want to see more players being hauled off on a stretcher with a career ending or life threatening injury. This is a sporting event, not Roman gladiators.
  10. Peacocks are brightly colored, the one in the photo does not do the beauty of the fish justice. No resemblance to a perch. Peacocks are a South American cichlid, not really a bass.
  11. I go braid all the way. Where I fish I deal with rocks, coral, pylons, seawalls caked with barnacles, fish with razor sharp gill plates, excessive line twist due to specific lure types. I'm constantly cutting off damaged line and some of my species are very capable of spooling past the braid and into the backing. I'm fishing this gear pretty much 7 days a week, it just doesn't last me that long. I like having a full spool of healthy braid on, it's worth the expense to me.
  12. I've only fished with 1 BR member, Bassn, haven't seen him in while hope everything is ok. Had a great time with him on a few occasions, we fished in saltwater, he caught a great fish and I got skunked.
  13. I don't keep track of size or numbers (even saltwater fish), my only goal is to enjoy myself and not take it too serious each time I go. I have very little control whether a 1lb or 10 lb fish hits my lure, the first one there is the winner, the 10 is nice, but so is the 1.
  14. It all depends whether you want a full spool of braid or not, performance wise I don't think it makes a difference. I always, and always means 100% of the time, put a layer of tape on my spool before loading it up, whether it's a conventional reel or spinning, mono or braid.
  15. I bought about 2 months ago a razr M for my wife and a Razr Maxx for myself. I really like the Maxx, under average usage in a 24 hour period I use no more than 40% battery, recharge time seems pretty quick too. I've played with several browsers, chrome and dolphin to name 2, but I went back to the stock browser, seems best for me. Even though the Maxx is a discontinued model with a 1.2 processor as compared to some of the newer ones at 1.5, it's still plenty fast. Some of the newer ones either come with jelley bean or have already been updated to it, the Maxx has ice cream and really doubt I'm going to update, for me I don't see the need. I really like the entire Motorola line up. The technology has improved so much in the last couple of years, it boils down to personal choice, almost all of them work great these days. One the best places to get insight are Android forums, specifically for the Razr HD.
  16. An investment in a non brick and mortar retail outlet should be fairly minimal and necessary "paper work" easily obtained. The major investment is in inventory, that amount is entirely up to you and how far you want to dive in. My question would be, how many items do I think you'e going to move say in a month's time, and is the profit worth the effort. I think there can be some good upside potential to establish a business, as in any business it takes devotion to make it go, it takes more guts than brains. The only real negative I see in this type of an on line venture is creating a customer base in an environment where advertising is difficult and you're waiting for people to "walk into your store". That said many others have done it, so it's a doable, nothing ventured......nothing gained. I would not allow any negativity keep me from trying it, all you can lose is money and money is the most replaceable commodity known to man.
  17. A 10# fish should not break a mh rod.
  18. I know, as I'm not looking to certify a fish it's easier to buy line my local store, rather than have to order it.
  19. I don't need anyone's review, I can do that myself just fine and at $4.99 it's a no brainer not to try it. I have more than enough time and fish caught on both 12# and 20# with 2 sizes of spinning reels. On both setups the lures I use generally exacerbate line twist, so far it's very minimal. In fairness I've redesigned 1 of my lures with sampo swivel on my main line and the lure now has a ball chain swivel, the improvement is dramatic. On my 12# set up I'm pretty much only using flukes with a sampo swivel, fishing from a high banked canal my swivel is often out of the water rendering it useless, still the lack of line twist has been exceptional. I tried to take notice of what the line did on the water, it did seem to sink ever so slightly more than a tradition braid, not really an issue. I believe I may be ordering some more Supercast, I'll make up mind soon, so far the line has worked well. Gotta add this, be careful in cinching the line down. Any 10# diameter line that breaks at 30# or more is a big bonus. An interesting topic might be: should lines break at their incredibly high actual strengths or should they break at the number on the package. I'm taking the latter, I want 20# line to break at 20#, as long as I'm using braid it's out of my control unless I downsize the diameter which I've been thinking about. We gotta give the fish some kind of chance.
  20. For me it's lighter or cigarette. I don't want a fine cut, I want the end of my tag line to have a little bead on it, helps to avoid pull throughs on the knot. On a side note, I've done quite a few fishing trips into the wilderness for a week at time, I always carried about 5 or 6 disposable lighters each packed in their own waterproof container and each stored in a different place. You lose or get one wet you have plenty of backup. You don't want to spend a few days in damp clothes in northern Canada, been there & done that and it ain't fun.
  21. Ability to use heavier line. Given the same retrieve speed the number of casts should be be pretty similar, but in spinning the retrieve speed is often varied on purpose. I never saw a disadvantage in pulling fish out of cover with spinning gear, a good trick is to grab the spool with your hand and pull them out with your rod, don't reel them out.
  22. I 10000000% agree with Darren, and agree that using what you have is probably the best way to go at first. Braid is about line management and line capacity, strength isn't an issue as most of it breaks well over the labeled number. The leader is real measure of how strong your "chain" is.
  23. DSG is not a fishing store, it's an all round store for many types of athletic activities. The store Diggy refers to actually has a pretty decent selection and I like their saltwater section. The DSG by me is a couple of miles from the ocean yet their saltwater dept. is a bit lackluster, could be Diggy's is a 2 story and mine is a 1 story building. I think most would agree that an Ugly Stick is not the most ideal bass rod, that doesn't make it a bad rod especially for the value. I'd be willing to bet that on any given day I see more Ugly Sticks being used than all other brands combined, both being used offshore and inshore. Used by bait fisherman and by many that strictly toss lures, it ain't a bad stick for the money and the use. Where I fish if you don't know you're getting a strike, no rod in the world is going to help you.
  24. I don't think it takes too much practice to set your drag where you think it should by feel. I do not use a scale and not really concerned with the actual poundage number. I can think of times when I would be tossing that 25-30% setting out the window. I use 15# braid for a lot of my fishing which is around the same diameter as 4lb mono, at 30% that would be 1.2# of drag. If one is setting their drag based on the line using that theory the drag would be the same using a 2000 or 4000 reel (I only fish spinning). I don't always have control of what kind or size of fish I may hook, I can tell you many fish I hook that are no than bigger 15lb 1 or 2# of drag is like being in free spool, won't phase them a bit. In fairness fishing from a boat you have the option of chasing them down and can get away with a little lighter drag. You just need to learn by experience where to have that drag, tight enough to slow them down a bit, but not tight enough to snap the line. When the situation dictates I almost always will adjust my drag with a fish on, and that's pretty much second nature as I've been doing it his way a long time. I don't think there is a "blanket" way to set it, it's up to the situation.
