  1. It was an excellent shot, but what if he hadn't pulled it off and put himself in more trouble. The situation dicates the risk.
  2. An amazing shot, but he should have been penalized for slow play.
  3. I always use leaders, no exceptions. 1 main reason is getting braid tangled in a treble hook, it can be a nightmare and some times just faster to burn it off and retie. A mono leader unwraps off a treble very easy.
  4. Don't condition braid. I've tried the KVD and back to using hot water and liquid fabric detergent on mono and copoly lines. In spinning I find it best not to spool up too much line, I don't get any coiling with the way I do it and I always troll out my line prior to my outing.
  5. I use the improved clinch, 20# braid is my max inshore size, never give knot failure a thought. For a bit of added security I'll double wrap the loop on the knot when I'm targeting some hard pulling fish like amberjack or cobia, still with the same 20# line.
  6. To be fair I don't think a review can be given on any product with minimal amount of use, except if one had a nightmare. I've been using 2 sizes almost everyday for the last few weeks, I agree with Darren that it looks to be not spooled uneven on the reel, but it functions just fine. I have quite a bit of dust settled on this line experiment, I know pretty much where I stand on it. I'm not going to praise or condemn, I'm just an amateur.
  7. Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning.
  8. I just flick it backhanded.
  9. I have Comcast, not shortage of fishing programs.
  10. A stinger rig is usually used with a bait like a frozen sardine of goggle eye. Probably would work on ok on a plastic fluke, I'd prefer using one of the longer ones, but your treble won't be weedless. Anything is worth a try.
  11. I would first examine all the other guides. If it's just the one I'd replace it locally, much easier than shipping it back, plus the turn around time is quicker. If after an installation of a new guide a problem with another guide pops up I would send it back at that time.
  12. I've been using the 20 and 12lb both on spinning gear for about 2 weeks. I'm using it only for a couple of different situations and it has performed fine so far.
  13. Electricity, microwaves, that's camping?
  14. Being in the scrap business I can't think of too many times that we didn't have thousands of pounds of lead around in many different forms. Sure no one was licking the stuff but much of it was handled by hand just to be palletized. Back when I first started linotype was on it's way out in the printing business, I personally emptied drawers by hand tons upon tons of typeset and loaded dross with a shovel with no ill affects ever. I handled so much in a 2 day period it made me enough money to start my business.
  15. Scariest incident I had was moose walking thru my campsite at dawn on the shores of Little Dozier lake in Ontario, I didn't have to worry about going to the latrine that morning. Pretty scary for a city boy hearing all the rumbling in the bushes and wondering what might be charging out. No roads, just bushes trees and water, made that trip 4 times, it was great.
  16. Sorry, only time I've been a campground is a KOA with motor home, which ain't camping, my Experience has been traveling lighter in less populated areas.
  17. Unless you're sucking on a split shot all day long or working in a lead smelting operation I wouldn't worry about.
  18. How long are you going for and will your camp be in one area or change locations? I think setting up your campsite and gathering firewood is the first thing to do. Even though you're cooking on a stove still have to have a fire for evening warmth and an animal deterent. If you're sleeping outdoors be on high ground. Quick and easy is a hot cereal and coffee, no milk, cream or butter, powdered creamer and milk is fine. Take a garbage bag and take wrappers and used containers back home with you, unless your campsite area has garbage receptacles. Don't forget t/p, leaves can get a bit scratchy and take a shovel. Personally I'd rather be checking into the 4 seasons resort........lol, I'm done with camping.
  19. During my career I had the good fortune of having a fairly short working day, often I found the time to do as I wished. Owners have perks, but can't say how many times I was called off the water or golf course to take care of something. Business always came first, no exceptions, after all that's what made everything else possible. Would I give an employee time off for a recreational activity, little chance of that. A fishing tournament, golf outing, vacations of course are fine as long as I had enough lead time to get someone to cover for their absence.
  20. What's this have to do with an inquiry on a Motorola product that's already been purchased?
  21. I've done several backpacking/canoe trips into the Algoma region of Ontario, at that time there were no smart phones or handheld gps and I don't know if you could get reception these days. Know how to read a map and compass and mark your trail for the return trip. Build a campsite on high ground, build a proper fire and have several back up disposable lighters all packed waterproof and in different storage locations. Know how to clean fish, have some freeze dried food in case the fishing isn't good, boil your water, first aid kit an absolute must. Get the weather forecast just prior to going (if it's unfavorable cancel the trip), some light weight raingear like a poncho and a change of clothes, have to travel light the equipment starts to add up and too much just will burden you down. As said knowing plant life is important and there can always be dangerous animals around, if going to another country you may not be allowed a firearm, something to check out first. And NEVER go during black fly season, this one I know first hand. Oh yeh, bury your biodegradable garbage and don't take anything with you that you aren't prepared to return home with, leave the environment as you found it. Make sure you have a fishing license.........and a great time !
  22. It's seasonal here, don't limit yourself to one species.
  23. What's cheating about having fun and catching fish? You fish the water you available to you. I fished Lake St. Clair for many years. had some really great days, it's anything but private and I wasn't the only one out there.
