Simplest Knot For Tying Two Lines Together?
I like the Alberto too, the " Spanish Fly" said it's as strong as a bimini twist, a good enough recommendation for me. Before I attempted this knot in 20 mph winds on a rocking boat, I got it down pat in my garage before leaving. I've also shortened it up, I make 10 wraps up and none down before I put it back thru the loop, so far no failures with any lines, leaders and all sizes of fish.

Which Casts Further
I cast my spinning gear in freshwater and in salt, 6'6 rods thru 8', from positions at water's level to elevated heights about 10', both braid and mono are used. The exact measurement I don't know, just know it's far enough to put my lure where I want to. From my own observation, not scientifically calculated, the rod, the profile and weight of the lure and the type of cast I make determines how far I can cast. Not all rods are the same, I have 7 and 7'6 rods that cast further than my 8 footer, same ratings. Casting is much like a golf swing, getting that perfect clubhead speed and hitting the sweet spot on the club, in fishing it's how the rod is loading up. My best distances result from the type of cast I'm making, a snap cast with power may not go as far as a long flowing cast with a full back and forward movement, just like a golf swing. Additionally a more flowing cast will have the line coming off the spool at a slower rate, which translates into less windknots, sometimes caused by the line hitting the first guide.

Who Got New Combos Over The Winter?
I've bought nothing recently. A sale starting today with a rod (including a free reel) that I've been eyeballing for quite some time. Not being all that crazy for the reel in the first place, I would replace it in time with something else, I'm turned off to the rod. Split grip and a lack of a foregrip has me unexcited, however I did want another 8' rod. I'm taking a pass on buying something that I don't really need just because there is an attractive offer.

Your "favorite Worst Spot" To Fish
I go to a few spots in the ICW that are very rocky, low tide can make fishing difficult. I have lost countless numbers of lures due to being snagged, it's worth every penny that it has cost me. 5-10# fish are the norm and not the exception, you just don't know what's going to be showing up.

When A Million Doesn't Feel Like A Million
First of all it's a great catch, after reading Yocom's bio probably isn't too concerned about the money. I think a financial planner could answer this best, but it may be possible to structure the winnings payable into an estate or trust after death, everything is in the fine print. $20k a year is petty cash to Mustad, a million at one time probably is not.

Espn The King Of Raider Haters
In the NFL there have been many QB's that have been slow starters and gone to have very good careers, with the exception of only 1 Raider in history that makes that list, and that's the "snake". Even though Stabler never won a championship (either did Marino) he is the benchmark that all Raider QB's are measured against, I see nothing but mediocrity on the Raider's horizon at the QB position. How many Super Bowls has Jerry Jones won............3. I don't think many would argue that he is the final word on everything that happens in the Cowboy organization, regardless of managing partners like Barry Switzer or Jimmy Johnson.

Braid Negatively Effecting Reel Performance. Hoping For Some Input.
As I used my 20# Supercast this morning for the first time on spinning gear, this is my opinion. The larger diameter had absolutely no effect on casting distance, in fact there may have been an increase. The line was quiet, more than others I don't know as I really don't pay much attention to that but it was quiet and smooth. The line management could not have been better, due in fact to 2 possible factors, 1. being the line itself and 2. my new design for my constantly spinning lures that create horrendous line twist, the line twist was almost zero after 2 straight hours of casting. I rate my experience A+, although being fishless this morning the knot strength and holding power were not tested, but I really have no concern of those issues. I'll give it a few more weeks before deciding whether to buy other sizes for different types of fishing, but so far so good.

Braid Negatively Effecting Reel Performance. Hoping For Some Input.
Tuff line is not the typical braided line, the 20# has a diameter of 10 lb mono and the diameter is .011. A traditional 20# braided line is more like 6# lb test with diameters around .008 or .009, doesn't sound like much but it is. IMO braided lines are more about diameter than strength, this line is reported to break a bit over 30#, I personally would not load up the equivalent of 10# mono or 30# strength on a 2500 sized reel, but in fairness braid is more supple and manageable than mono, but to each their own choice. On PP website, their 40# is .013=10 lb mono and their 30# is .011=8 lb mono, proving to me that there is no industry standard and the only thing that really matters is the diameter. I did receive my line yesterday and spooled up on a larger spinning reel, as the spool is 100yds I did use backing which I normally do not do. The weather isn't right, but the tide is good for about an hour this morning for my target species, chances of catching a 20 or 30# fish are slim but I'm going to get a real good handle on how the line manages, I'm looking forward to the test. If it works out well I'll respool with 300 yds @ $25.99 it is not expensive.

Fishing Longer Rods
I couldn't agree more, I mostly fish off a Polar 21 and a 28' Sailfish, casting is very difficult as the bimini top is always in the way. I sit on the very tip of the bow when I cast and my rods are all 7'. I have fished in some longer center console boats with more walk around room and it's a lot easier.

Who Have You Met?
Each time I read this I think of another one. Circa 1972, I was at Tigers stadium, Yankees were in town, sitting behind home plate with some friends Reggie Jackson was sitting next to me. He was playing ball with the A's at the time and they were getting ready to play a series with the Tigers. I won't say he became my best friend as he "mingled" with nearly every person in the section. He walked around with a fistful of money betting people on what the players or pitchers would be doing, like this guy is gonna pop up, or this one may get struck out, look out this player is due for a home run. Needless to say he cleaned up. I have never encountered a celebrity being more gregarious and having everyone instantly just really liking the guy, he was super.

Bps Myguide Iphone App
I'm not against an app, I may look at one while sitting in my car during a rain delay, but that's just really passing time. I've gathered my information, selected the wardrobe of the day and the rods and reels that I'll be using, made a decision on my destination, most of it based on weather and tide, I prefer to do this in the comfort of my home. It being 2:10 am right now, I'm just starting to make decisions, I generally leave about 4 am. I focus somewhat to where " they caught them yesterday", but my gut feelings prevail more, where I fish seldom are 2 days in a row identical.

Can I Use The Improved Clinch Knot On Braid?
^^^ Improved clinch, not an ordinary clinch ^^^ Braided lines are more about diameter not strength as most of the break well over the number on the package. If one is using 20# line that breaks at 30#, don't kid yourself, you are using a thin 30# line, which is good.

Bps Myguide Iphone App
Would be a total waste of time and energy for me. All the information I need is obtained on my pc before I leave to go fishing, I'm there to fish not play with my phone. I do carry my phone most of the time only to receive a call that may be important or maybe a good photo op. Whether it's a phone app or an internet site I find most of them are pretty useless, know your weather and tide before you leave.

Fishing Longer Rods
A shorter rod does yield better leverage, but IMO leverage and backbone are different issues and I believe given identical rod stats the longer rod has has more backbone. A very common ploy when using a longer rod to aid in leverage is moving your hand up on the foregrip or shaft itself, can be a big help in pulling fish out of cover or in my case pulling them away from pilings or offshore when they go under the boat.

Can I Use The Improved Clinch Knot On Braid?
I use nothing but an improved clinch knot for braid. Freshwater braided lines are usually 10 and sometimes 15# with 6 wraps before the final loop. My saltwater inshore gets 10, 15 and 20# depending on the gear I'm using, same formula. My offshore braid on a couple of set ups is 30#, my max line size, same 6 wraps but the final loop gets a double wrap. If tied correctly the chances of knot failure are close to nil, if one is concerned about pull thru put a bead on the tag end with a lighter. Any properly tied fishemen's knot employed with proper drag use should be fine 99% of the time, use what ever is easiest.

That's pretty cool.

Spinning Reel Size
There is no industry standard, a decent rule of thumb is line capacity and max drag, but it doesn't always work that way. Some of my of my smaller spinning reels. Supreme 35 8/200 12 drag 8.8 oz Stradic 2500 6/200 15 drag 9.2 oz Cabo 30 8/160 23 drag 13.4 oz Abu soron 20 8/130 16 drag 9.6 oz What are they............lol Same situation prevails in larger sized spinning reels too.

When Did You Start?
Started with my dad when I was about 5 or 6, we went almost every Saturday & Sunday, he never went without me. My dad took me on fly in trips to Canada, charters off Walpole Island in Lake St Clair, we did all kinds of fishing. In the late 70's my parents lived in Florida for about 5 months of the year, he had nice boat and we did a lot of fishing in the Atlantic and Biscayne Bay when I came down, few years later I bought a snowbird condo. I never fished for bass in Florida until I moved here full time 10 years ago, I discovered some really nice bass in my backyard canal, where I do most of my bass fishing, but my focus is on saltwater.

Price For Spinning Reels
This topic has been beat to death, then stomped on even more. I don't own a b/c and the main factors I look for in a spinning reel are drag performance, smoothness and how it sits on my rod. I own reels from $30 to $230 from many of the different manufacturers, amazingly my more expensive reels seem to go down a bit more often and require maintenance, could be my target species as well as the environment I'm using them in. For freshwater fishing I can get whatever I need inside $100, the ones I'm using have lasted for years unserviced and without the need for repair. I don't have the desire to keep upgrading every couple years, if I'm banging out nice fish and my gear is working well, what's the point? IMO it doesn't matter that much what you are using, the only thing that matters is what you are catching.

Going Out Tomorrow
I was down in Broward last week fishing for peacocks, I saw a tarpon roll and that got my juices flowing. Using a 6'6 ml rod I would have no chance in the world of landing a tarpon, the thrill of hooking it would have superceded any expense in damaged equipment. I'm going back out there today or tomorrow.

Xxxh Musky Rod?
It's more about the weight of the lures and any cover you may have to deal with, the average muskie may run 25-30#. I now some of the tuna fishermen are using 40-80# rods for yellow fin. Tarpon hunters targeting fish in the 125 # + will use a 50# conv. and some use 25- 40# spinning rods, key is reels with a lot of line capacity. I no longer target 100# fish anymore due to being 67 and 135#, and have jumped up to a 40# spinning rod with a 7000 Penn conquer for some pelagic species (holds about 325 yds 30# braid), it handles amberjacks that on average will be 30-50 pounds. An important factor in rod selection when targeting certain species is how they fight, some are deep runners and some are more surface runners.

Tv Shows
Only time I see a fishing show these days is when I'm channel surfing, I either surf right by it or watch for just a few minutes. I happen to catch a few episodes of FLW, how I lasted 5-10 minutes was just an indication of my boredom at the moment. I'm seeing these guys whooping and hollering like they had a 90 lb sailfish on the line with a flyrod. What they had were fish that barely were 2 lbs and dragging them in 6 or 7 seconds, I looked my watch. I admire their exuberance as they are competing to earn money, but as a spectator...........
