  1. Most of my inshore outfits have 10-15-20# PP, don't remember what I was using. I also don't weigh fish and this one isn't really big enough to qualify to hang on a scale, my guess might be around 8#, I have caught them 30# and they go bigger than that. Quite honestly if one has never caught a Jack Crevelle, the fight can't be described in words, only other fish I have caught in the same league is Permit. Off the beach I mostly use a med or mh spin rod with a 4000 reel, I prefer that reel size because I like more line capacity and they seem to be more comfortable on the rod than a smaller reel, but the drags are set about the same even though the 4000 has more horsepower. There are many guys down here that fish lighter reels, rods and line than I do, I'm not all that far from 70 years old, so I'm fishing a bit heavier than I used to.
  2. I think the average 80# braided line is going to break upwards of a 100#+, that may not be overkill for yellowfin tuna, but for a bass, hmmmmmmmm.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/guns/dickact.asp Seems like, according to Snopes, much of this legislation has been modified, in Acts occurring in 1908, 1916 and 1920. As far as being able to have any weapon the US government has, it's pretty doubtful owning a nuclear device would be allowed to protect yourself. Been wondering about the National Guard myself, today they are deployed overseas, back in the 60's being in the National Guard( Army Reserve too) was a ticket not to go to Viet Nam.
  4. Not exactly true, a year or two ago one of my stradic fi's needed a bail arm bearing, initially I ordered the part. Several weeks pass and no delivery, and I give them a call, I was told there was no record of the order, I was then told that the part was out of stock and on had been on back order from around Nov until Feb or March.
  5. I don't buy reels based on my budget, I can buy pretty much whatever I want. The smallest fish I target are LMB, not one of the more formidable fish to land. I've been using 3 supremes for the last several years, each reel is like the day I took them out of the box, not that I'm recommending any brand but I don't feel freshwater fishing demands the quality of a more expensive reel. I have many spinning reels priced well over $100 and there is a place for them. Salt air, saltwater, sand and considerably larger and harder fighting fish can play havoc on your gear. That said, 2 of my favorite sw reels are sub $100, a medalist and an arbor, both used for barracuda which is one tough hombre, reels are as good as the day I bought them, very smooth and they another site. Of the 4 S brands that I own, 2 have gone down several times and IMO very over rated and overpriced, probably not buy one again. I'm stating to think so many better options out there now.
  6. 80# braid wow, and I thought 30# was overkill.
  7. I don't think there is any question that Professionals are hyping their sponsor's products, there is as much hyping on any fishing board from amateurs as well. I think to myself, why would I take advice from any person that catches less and smaller fish than I do. Good fisherman catch fish for 1 reason, they know what they are doing ! Rods, reels, lines, hooks and baits are such a secondary concern to me it's hardly worth mentioning.
  8. Probably why I landed it so easy lol. 1 of my stradics is going in for it's 3 rd repair, and of my spheros has been in twice, Floogs have been in steady service, haha. I have had quite a few that may have gone 6-8#, maybe a 10 pounder awaits me.
  9. I like circle hooks for using live croakers, hook size dependent on size of the bait, 3/0 or 4/0 is usually a good choice. Toothy fish get a longer shank hook, circles are not as good for them.
  10. I fish everyday and don't care what the weather or tide is like. I have caught some great fish when the tide was wrong for that species, have caught fish that' don't normally appear in the areas I fish. Have caught really nice peacocks in an extended periods of 50 degree weather, luckily before they got killed off. If I waited for perfect conditions I'd never get out of the house.
  11. I don't plan on going down there unless the weather is bad and I can't fish. I have no pressing issue to buy anything, and BPS does not stock the items I'd like to look at. I'll stick with what I have rather than buying something on line that I've never seen in person.
  12. Never is an absolute word, I'll insert seldom. A few weeks ago I was doing quite a bit of either jig and trailer or larger worms, I've given that up for a while. I probably have caught as many fish 20-25" as I ever did but it's agony to fish that way, too slow for me. I'm back with weightless flukes, still catching good fish but not as many but it's more fun to me. The fish are aggressive now, I don't want a boring bite, I want the explosion on top of the water.
  13. I went out again yesterday at my home home canal and the fishing was slow, only had 2 fish in about an hour. But lighting does strike in the same place, both fish were around 24" like the one I posted a couple of days ago. I'm not too happy about this cold weather coming in, I need a bass break and I was planning on heading out for some peacocks, maybe next week instead.
  14. God has blessed me, my wife would rather go shopping.
  15. Florida senior resident fresh and salt, free
  16. I may have to head south for some snakehead action.
  17. Yeh, I'm on foot and always moving, a camera on a tripod just dosen't get it, it's fish first and photo a secondary concern. When I get lucky enough to see some out there, they don't know how to press the shutter, lol.
  18. When I fist saw the video I didn't see the punch connect either, didn't think much about it. After looking at it again no question my mind that it was a terrible attempt to tank, looked like a punch from a Hollywood B western.
  19. Went 4 for 6 on my 1 hour fishing break between naps, at my age ya need em and I wasn't even using a Shimano, lol. Nice fish but I didn't take a measurement, had a hard enough time with a smartphone. I either have to grow longer arms or hire a full time photographer to follow me around.
  20. I've got confidence in me.
  21. Too brutal RW ! Not a bad catch for a Shimano man, got my attention. I may have run out and buy a curado with 50# braid.
  22. 3 opponents with a total record 1-13, yeh he was tested. Anyone remember Ed "too tall" Jones, ex Dallas Cowboy, 6 (5) 0, lasted a year.
  23. It may be a shame to eliminate a sport that's been in the Olympics since ancient times, but I can understand updating the events. Even though I'm a golfer I don't care for golf as an Olympic event, I believe golf is reinstated for 2016, last time it was in the Olympics was 1904. There is a lot of talk about ball room dancing as an event, I'm all for that even though the scoring is more subjective, IMO those dancers are very much athletes. I've read pole dancers want in too.
  24. I needed a reel for my grandson bought a Shakespere Agility for him at Walmart. Sat on the rod unused for quite sometime so I pulled it out to do some jig fishing and it's done a fine job with 5#+ bass. It's smooth like most of the newer reels today and the drag has been more than adequate at the price I don't care how long it lasts.
