  1. Very nice bass.............I live about a mile from that golf course, too bad it's private, lol.
  2. I don't think there is much need for a super sensitive rod, these fish give a pretty decent bump. A rod with good backbone is what's needed, plenty of good ones out there. I use only spinning gear, the fish I catch are bigger and stronger than most snakeheads, I routinely hoist them up from a jettie, and sea walls, some of the Florida guys know how high the jetties are at Boynton, never broke a rod. If I'm not mistaken you are catching them from a boat, you are already close to the water. I use med 8/17 or mh 10/20 rods, I'd be happy to tell you what I use, send me a pm if interested, I use one of the aforementioned rods, it will fit the bill for sure, but I don't want to be in a debate over brands. I'd get a 24" gaff, your going to kill them anyway.
  3. IMO the reputation feature may inhibit some members from actually posting their true feelings about a topic, people love to be part of the "in crowd". I assume everyone likes positive feed back on their posting, myself included, but I would hate to see someone not being honest for a fear of a negative reaction.
  4. With the exception of Facebook or some other social media with a " Like" feature I don't recall ever noticing an option to rate people's opinion via a reputation, I think it's pointless. I don't expect to get rave reviews on posts I make, a difference of opinion may be more valuable than having 30,000 members always agreeing, personally I want to know every side of an issue. One of the last things in life for me to be concerned about is my "reputation" on any social network.
  5. At a quick glance I initially thought this topic was about my grandson, he is from Indiana with very similar football talents and accomplishments. I do believe no one should be restricted from doing their best. Sports and entertainment have always been vehicles for some to create a better life for themselves. I think what the President had in mind, so many others feel the same, is that we have become soft in the education department, I don't think competitive sports is what he had in mind. How to improve education has been the hot topic all week. Getting our edge back has more to do with what's going on in the classroom than on the gridiron field, 1 tackle can end a football career for life a youngster, not to mention that there are lots of kids excelling in sports and the chance of making it all the way to the pros is slim.
  6. That isn't good news. With the peacocks gone and snakeheads coming in, my interest in freshwater fishing has vanished. Always on the lookout for gators and snakes and now I have to deal with this, who needs it.........................i doubt very seriously if I will fish for bass again, with the exception of piddling in my community pond for 2 pounders, just to break up the winter boredom.
  7. Carp are great sport. There are quite few fish species I catch that fly under the radar but represent themselves exceptionally well in the fighting department, not to mention are excellent table fare. A case in point, last year one of my neighbors( a snowbird) is a charter captain from Cape May New Jersey, charters striped bass and was telling me how great they were. I said that's only because you never caught a nice jack, so I took him jack fishing for 20 pounders, all he wants to do now is fish for Jack Crevelles and has yet to bring up striped bass fishing.
  8. This will give you an idea of how rough the Boynton inlet is, since the video was done the jetties have been elevated 2 feet, we liked it better the old way, I fish it at 4 am I'm usually alone. There is a guy who took a box from a pick up truck, made it water tight, slapped on an outboard on it and heads out the inlet to fish
  9. Not my lightest shore outfit, 4000 stradic, star med hvy rod 10/20 this one had to be run down, 200 yds of 20# braid wasn't enough
  10. Not a bad idea to leave the cellophane wrap on the rod for awhile until you know whether keeping it or returning., I see lots of people that never remove the wrap.
  11. You bet it was, when you have one of these on the line !
  12. glad to hear you got a keeper, my snook catching has been real spotty.
  13. Pound for pound it's pretty hard to find a fish to outfight a ladyfish, aka the poorman's tarpon. They are hot right now and this year is maybe the biggest fish I have seen of that species. A big ladyfish is 5 or 6#, that's it, multiple jumps 5-6-7 times or more is the rule not the exception, they strip out yards and yards of line too. Could be one of the most aggressive fish, quite common to unbutton a fish and within 2 or 3 cranks have another on the line, they hit anything. Not an easy fish to land, very hard mouth like a tarpon, reminds me so much of bonefishing except much easier. Once they clear the area the bluefish and jacks come in, they can run much bigger but we have only seen small ones so far, I'm heading today to target 30# jacks, I know a spot. Snook bite has not been as strong as it should be, the weather has just been to calm and way too much bait around, live mullet are the ticket, artificial users have been having a tough go. Get a 15mph ne wind with a 3-4 groundswell and the snook bite should pick up, I did hook something yesterday on a 1/4 oz bucktail that snapped my 30# leader like it was sewing thread, I think a large jack, but will never know.
  14. Have yet to see a snakehead in my part of Palm Beach County.
  15. Ice fisherman have modified ski doos for years for ice fishing, and in Florida it's not unusual to see people several miles out in the ocean fishing off jet skis. Rigged up with rod holders, depth finders, the whole 9 yards.
  16. You need to see them in person to really appreciate, been there several times. They have some of the most advanced military technology, I like this one BTW Happy New year to the Jewish members, L'shana tova.........5772 years
  17. I'd drop down to 6# test and step my reel selection up a notch. Using the same rods, I get fairly equal distance between my stadics, sorons, supremes and cabo, doubt if there is any more than a couple of yards difference. I buy a reel for drag quality, construction, smoothness, not for casting distance.
  18. I've bought reels off ebay and never had a warranty problem, even with Shimano.
  19. ^^^ The vast majority of my bass fishing is done with 1 spinning rod, employing just about any lure or technique of my choice. I don't get hung up on that dedicated philosophy. More experience with larger fish ( other species) will make those bass a lot easier to land, keep a tight line and you own them............no one lands them all.
  20. After being pitched by time share people hundreds of times like in Mexico, the people at BPS are rank amateurs, easy just to walk away and say no.
  21. I probably fish 350 days a year, it's rare when I don't fish, last time I missed was my colonosotpy, lol Bored, never ! I generally get offshore 1-2 times a week, snook fish every single day, even before I meet my guys at 7:00am to go offshore. Once the weather cools down I do some bassfishing on my way home from the ocean and then again in the late afternoon.
  22. I'm a spinning guy. The rod and reel I choose for the day, I only carry one with me, is based not on the size of fish I'm targeting but where I'm fishing, I use a lot of topwater lures and flukes. True I don't get too many big bass but I do catch a lot of bigger snook and tarpon, the equipment isn't much different from my bass stuff. I use a med 8/17, 2000 reel for my bass fishing, 10# braid. I use pretty much the same setup off a saltwater beach, off a jettie or sea wall I step it up to a 10/20 rod and a 4000 reel, 15# braid, a little extra backbone is needed to keep the fish out of the pilings, although I have handled 20 and 30# on the light saltwater set up a number of times.
  23. Are there not fitness requirements to be maintained for American police or military persons? United States leads the world in obesity, it's about the only area where we are world leaders now,, in reality I don't think it's a joking matter.
  24. You wouldn't know it by the representation on this forum, but in reality I see very few bass fisherman as compared to saltwater in South Florida. Outside of BR I do not know 1 bass fisherman in Florida.
  25. I don't replace hooks until it's absolutely needed, I'm lazy that way. So many of my trebles are not only rusted and mangled but may have only 1or 2 hooks left, they still catch fish. When I do replace I use 4x hooks, not fussy on brand.
