anti-freeze for my rod
I don't know a darn thing...except that in many years of ice fishing I've had no ice problems, never heard of it till I read this thread.

A little common sense please
UPDATE..... The kid is back in school this morning. The school board voted unanimously to allow him back and stated the punishment was too much. The school board will be amending the zero tolerance rule for 1 st graders and infractions judged on by a case by case basis.

Treble vs Single Hooks
I mostly change the hooks on my spoons, single hooks for that application are referred to as siwash hooks and are made special. IMO a bit harded to hook but once you have them hooked it's a more solid hookset and as mention much easier to dehook the fish. I use a 2/0 perma plate hook on a 5/8 or 3/4 oz spoon

Left handed bait casters
I disagree, in saltwater at times I use a conventional reel, the fish that I target are larger and stronger than freshwater species. I prefer left hand crank while my strong arm, the right, is handling the rod which is handling the fish, as Rolo said the reel is just taking up the slack and much less strength is required to turn the handle. I do recommend a fighting belt or at least know how to position the rod butt in your crouch and not under your armpit for maximum leverage, regardless of which hand you are cranking with ( same for spinning). This winching business that has been mentioned before, imo is pure nonsense. Every year we are seeing more and more conventional reels available with left hand crank, must be something to it. What ever is comfortable to you is the right way to go.

Old technique emplyed
The tarpon were rolling in abundance and no one was getting a hit, I had an xrap on another was using a fly rod, so I decided to try old method, a drop fly rig. About 18" above my xrap I ran a 12" leader with a fly resembling a glass minnow, within 15 minutes I had landed one and got 3 other hits, everyone else still had nothing. I was talking to the flyman and said I bet this works great for lmb, he agreed based on his own experience. When I got home changed rods, but on a smaller lure and used the same fly.......bingo, it does work well for lmb.

Rod length, impact on casting distance
I have 2 sets of identical rods, except length. 8/17/ m 7'.......8/17 m 7,6, both 15# braid, spinning reels equal 10/20 mh 7'....10/20 mh 7,6 both 20# braid, spinning reels equal 7'6 cast a bit further but not more than about 10 yds, the difference being the shorter rod in each pair is lighter but the longer rods have more backbone and handle same size fish easier. Depends on where you are fishing whether or not extra distance is needed, with most of my shore fishing the majority of fish are caught within 20 or 30 ' feet of the shore or even closer in (the swash).

A little common sense please
This thread started out referencing a 6 year olds suspension, I don't know many that age the are driving trucks to school with or without deer rifles. Back on topic, in this case I think the punishment was over the top. At least from the photo in the article this child looks to be harmless with no other motives except to test his new camping gear, I feel for the kid. Perhaps the punishment rendered should done on a case by by case basis and in this case a suspension just for the rest of the day would have been fine. All that being said, I think it's wise to have laws like these on the books, the goal is simple, a safer environment.

Metal ferrule rods.
If I remember correctly most rods had metal ferules 50+ years ago. Only real thing I can recall about them was to be careful when joining the 2 parts. My dad always insisted on applying nasal grease to the male end that aided in pulling the 2 pieces apart easier.

Attention South Florida Boatless Bass Fishermen!
Seems like a decent enough deal depending on how often you plan on renting. The other option, where I see many boats, is a storage facility and many open 24 hours.....cost is reasonable. I'm involved with some friends that are members of a boat rental club for saltwater. Each of them were boat owners in saltwater in the New York area, down the line none of them would ever own again, rental is the way to go. The fee for this club is $4200 initiation, then $100 per month, gas and go and they clean the boat. The ensuing years have no one time fee, just a $100 rental. Quality boats and many of them. My son in law moved his boat from Michigan, he's a pleasure boater. He had a boat costing over a 100k and things were fine until he got to the point that every outing seemed to have an expense attached to it $500+, then each inboard went........big money to replace both of those, not to mention $4000 a year insurance, dockage $500 per month and tropical storm pulls. Sold his boat and now a boat club member.

Back in the boat!Need some advice...
I've caught fish from shore in that general area, top lure has been my best bet. There is another boat launch on the other side of the lake.

Anybody here had a vasectomy?
At 64 I have no intention of starting another family. If I were younger a vasectomy would never my entered into my mind. The future is impossible to predict and present views change. I have had several close friends start 2 nd families into their 50's either naturally or thru adoption.

spoons
I fish spoons a lot, IMO best producing lure there is. Much of the time I replace the treble with a siwash hook, just preference and my favorite are mepps spoons. If you perfer a single larger hook, Johnsons are excellent along with Huntington Drone or Clark spoons.

Mullet
I'm not a pro angler but I do know my home waters and where to get information and those forums are reporting the same. The fish are not always present in the ocean, even with bait around, this is common. It changes day to day or hour to hour and the tide cycle plays an important part. Bassn , I've been fishing under the Boynton bridge at low tide. No water so I climbed down the seawall and fish at the waters edge. Lot of bait busting and caught a few snook each day. Today the low tide was later so no bait, no snook, you know how that goes. This can be a good time of the year for snook islands, you can take your boat there.

One more cast.
That's a very a nice catch.......... Surf is probably my favorite place to fish, this time of year I do it every day. Too bad we have flat seas down here, bring on the wind, 20+mph 2-4 chop is primo down here.

power of stars
The number of stars mean absolutely nothing and as Bassn says way too much computer time, myself included. I have noticed that the opinions of some with more stars are accepted with more respect than others. An eloquently written post has no bearing on whether that person is really a good fisherman or not, often times some of the technical mumbo jumbo is copied from other sites. Those that preach the benefits of high end equipment garner more respect as great fisherman as well.......bunk!

Mullet
Lots of mullet but no fish, have had to be hunting them down lately, tough going but should get hot anytime.
