  1. So let me get this straight... At a reasonable 6% over a period of 120 months ($355 over 10 years), Your final payment in year 2019 you would have paid $52,600 for a $42,000 boat. I'm not knocking you because I don't know a ton of people have $42,000 in their bank account... But then again I don't know a ton of people with a $42,000 rig either. :-/ If I were to buy that 42k boat ( I've done it before) I'd like to do it no money down if I could, but given this scenario I would finance the boat at 6% then buy a hopefully safe investment like a muni for 2.5% and good chance you'll get a better rate than that. 10 years later that 32k muni has grown to 40k+, but I still have my money. Contrary to what I just said I bought my wife a new car last month and paid cash. I was STOOOPID !, given the low auto rates.
  2. I have one I bought about 4 years ago, 5'6 ml used with an ul reel. Still looks and performs like new. You get what you pay for, but for $19.00 you're way ahead of the game. I use it for peacock pond action.
  3. I fish the Boynton inlet daily, FYI it is not a real inlet, it's man made and your insurance company will most likely not cover you. Winter winds are from the east and many times strong enough to delay the tide change. Ground swell plays a major part in wave height as well as the wind, but an opposing wind is usually calmer seas Gone out that inlet lots of times and it is rough. I love fishing 20-30 mph winds there, big surf and big fish.
  4. Bassn, I don't want to correct you but the slot is 28-32 atlantic 28-33 gulf, with 1 harvest per day. As of Sept 1, a saltwater license is needed to fish from shore and a snook stamp is required to harvest. From what I see the snook population is strong, slot should be eased a bit, 26-32 seems reasonable. To those of you that are unfamiliar with harvest, it does not mean you can catch a slot, give it to your bud, then catch and keep one for yourself. 1 keeper a day regardless what you do with it.
  5. I've taken slot home before and my wife and I didn't care for snook, I know lots of people love it, but I prefer one of my old sneakers. I wouldn't fear eating freshwater snook, but I don't believe they will taste anything like a nice "clean" silver ocean snook, which are on the beach now.
  6. Sounds like you bought a rack rod from a builder that also does custom work... If you had it custom built to your spec., I doubt you'd bring it back and doubt he'd give a full refund. I could be wrong, but that would be very odd. I believe you to be correct about the rod. His attitude led me to believe he would have taken any product back, his posture was" in pleasing the customer". He operates a full service bait and tackle store, income is not based solely on rod building and eventually someone would have bought a returned custom rod and he knows that. A happy customer comes back, a mad one doesn't. I've been back to visit with an open wallet.
  7. About 50 of them no candlestick phone no phone bells on wall vmail? no car with out turn signals, but I know the hand signals, required on drivers test, first car 50 chevy 3 on the steering column. palmer penmanship Older than dirt who me?.....no way, I'm only 64
  8. It just works. A little squirt and I'm good for months, my reels(spinning) are always smooth.
  9. An authorized service center for quite a few major brands recommended Corrosion block and were they ever right( my local repair facility as well). Best I've ever used. I'd never go back to traditional oil and most of my reels are used in saltwater. One 4 oz can has lasted me 2 years and it's only half gone.
  10. Women are sexy...........fishing equipment is what it is, just fishing equipment! To me performance is what matters.
  11. I love the show, my wife says my personality is identical to Larry David and my oldest friend( deceased had the same looks and mannerisms as Richard Lewis). I've always loved the ensemble cast, especially some of the borscht belt comedians, like Shelly Berman. An understanding of Jewish culture magnifies the humor even more, one example off the top of my head is when Larry wants to dig up his mother's grave because of a tattoo.
  12. How do you know it was 50# if you got cut off? They have razor sharp gill plates, when they roll they cut your leader, same with snook. Both tarpon and snook congregate at spillways when the gates are open and freshwater baitfish are carried out by the current. Sometimes they swim thru the gates and enter the canal system and become trapped, gates are closed in dry season. They survive freshwater just fine but cannot reproduce. Tarpon jump?........I should say so. They have a bone hard jaw and hooksets are difficult( with bait use a circle hook), usually 2 or 3 jumps and they're gone, need a little luck to land them. This has been an excellent year for tarpon, have caught many.
  13. I bought a custom rod last month from a reputable maker here in Florida. He said bring it back if you don't like it, I didn't and he gave me a full refund, NQA. I'd buy only from a bricks and motor store and I want to know the ground rules upfront, I'd buy from his store again, he lived up to his "oral contract".
  14. Pacino........Tony Montana Gable..........Rhett Butler, Hamish Bond
  15. Muddy speaks volumes and probably for most fisherman( not all fisherman are BR members). No question that there is always a market for custom, cool looks and enhanced performance, but what is the number 1 selling rod? My guess is Ugly Stick and probably will be for years to come.
  16. Only goal is to enjoy myself each outing and not let an unproductive day have any negative affect on me. My passion is to catch the largest fish with the lightest tackle.
  17. Scam without doubt, not all individuals have a taxpayer id, if you do,check your latest return and see if the numbers match........IRS mails only and it's a manila envelope, standard IRS info is always a white envelope. I retired my business in 2004 and I still receive mail about quarterly estimates and similar matters. I would not hesitate to call my CPA and have him/her take care of the matter.
  18. LAD....haha, I like that one, making me feeling younger day by day. Bassn knows how I fish for them and I do it everyday year round. As far as numbers, I don't bother counting them or, kinda pointless to me. This time of year it's no great feat in catching them but try it in the winter and see how many you catch then. Back on the topic, I'd prefer not to be fishing alongside a person with an attitude of " blowing their brains out".
  19. 17 in 2 hours and well over 40", and those are just the ones landed. Remarkable and all on plugs, but doesn't everyone do that?
  20. Spinning with 10# braid. shimano clarus CSS70MLA 7' 2008 icast, over the counter lifetime warranty. Many other clarus available both spin and and casting pflueger supreme 30 size.............sounds delicious to me. I've got that supreme on a clarus 6/12 med 6'6 and I love it.
  21. I don't read any thing into it. Fishing the surf it happens constantly, sometimes, just from the waves with any kind of lure.
  22. I use whatever is in stock, that being said I've used EC 4/0 circles on bonito, kingfish and snapper, good hookset, don't bend and yet to see them rust. I do just fine with their wide gap hooks for bass.
  23. Right on !! We have some world class pickerel here in Jersey. They are like torpedoes. Like you said, they absolutely destroy anything they get a hold of. How anyone considers them a trash fish is beyond me. Couldn't agree more ! One person's trash is another's treasure. The list of so called non gamefish is long, many of them make excellent table fare and give remarkable battles. Especially if one is in to "catch & release" why not target some of these for some memorable moments.
