  1. I don't add split rings to lures that don't already come with one, I don't see the point. I use a basic loop knot on 90% of my lures.
  2. I have yet to see braid do any damage to any rod guides I own and braid is on all but 1 reel.
  3. Good story, nice fish............I have 20" mark with masking tape on my rod, gives me a decent idea of size.
  4. I have an abu conolon spinning, not my favorite, I use it for a sabiki rig now.
  5. Especially spinning ......THE ROD A person can use a $100 or less reel and have as much worry free fun as someone using a Van Staal, the real fun comes from catching.
  6. Cart I agree with you. The people with individual plans are treated as second class citizens pertaining to what they get for what they spend on insurance, it just isn't fair. It may not happen in my lifetime but it will happen, insurance companies will be regulated much stronger. For every argument from the helathcare industry as to why it's costs are what they are there offsetting arguments that say it shouldn't be. Sorry to say some people are just believing the hoodwinking that is going on. The bottom line, it costs too much, doesn't give you what it once did and people can't afford it. Business passes the additional expense to us consumers making goods and services more expensive, both here and abroad, in other words we get hit twice. We need the tort system, suppose you are a young person unable to earn a living from a mistake caused by the health care industry and the cap in your state may only be a paltry 250K....live on that the next 40+ years. Healthcare needs to be accountable for their mistakes. If I'm not mistaken Sam earns his living from the helathcare industry, If that were the case for me I'd be backing them too. Excellent points Lund, there is talk of taxing employer paid helathcare as it's income, just like paying tax on vacation pay. If that happens a lot of people will be changing sides. Time for my uncle to step in or 10% unemployment will look good.
  7. I'm in Delray and shiners at a bait store run around $11 per dozen.
  8. Rates and coverages vary from state to state, Florida blue cross is higher than in most other states. The online quote is a starting point, once dialogue is established your background will be checked and at that point the rate may be adjusted upwards. My Mich.B/X rate is about half of what it would be in Florida for a similar plan (still not as good) but they will not write us due to pre existing condition. My wife had a stroke in 97 and presently takes heart and cholesterol medication and I have acid reflux (gerd) and they don't want me either. My last group rate for 2 people in Michigan about 6 years ago was $1140 per month, can't imagine what it would be now.
  9. Stating to slow up now, but if like last year the fall mullet run will turn them on.........then Dec-April..............dead dead dead. I'm psycho.........thanks
  10. I have a soron 40 with 15# PP......no line twist. I take no special care in spooling, just let the filler flop around but I run it tight thru my fingers with the drag cranked way down. Knots on braid are usually caused by a loop, sometimes creating by jigging or twitching a top lure.
  11. Had a premonition this morning when I left the house, so I stopped by Walmart to pick up a pack of Storm Wild Eyed Shad 7/8oz. Headed out to one of my favorite spots tied it on and tossed it out into a fierce incoming high tide. On my second cast I got nailed to what I thought was a tarpon, but after a minute I knew it was a snook, the battle ensued for what seemed like an eternity, finally I was able to bank the lady to a ledge at waters edge. Now the problem was that it was about 5 am and no one around to hold my rod while I climbed down to waters edge, opened my bail as not to have the fish swim off with the rod and reel I then made my way down there to unhook this magnificent slob. This fish was real tired and I wanted back in the water asp so without a foot measurement I released her, but my eye guesstimated her to be a tad less than 40 inches. Without out doubt my best snook of the year...........so far!
  12. I take my time buying rods and reels( as far as lures go I'd try anything whether I read or heard about it). I want to see what other fisherman are using and I ask questions. My local tackle shop is manned by an experienced staff of 2 or 3 that really know what they are talking about.
  13. See what I mean..........and that only scratches the surface of the difference. Your best option is to see if your boss will get a better plan, but it will cost more. Not to get nosy but does your employer pick up the healthcare tab, a portion, or just make it available to you at your expense?
  14. Hard core Lions fan..................Lions are the worst team in any professional sport...........PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!! William Clay Ford and now Bill Ford know as much about football as I know about making cars.
  15. The goal of the insurance and drug companies is to make lots of money at your expense. Even the best plans will be poor by todays standards in years to come. I've read that in 20 years or so we may be paying as much as 30-50% of our income just for healthcare. Most know the option........some just don't get it! Our economy in years to come depends on it as well.
  16. Just to give an example of how the healthcare insurances companies have changed over the years. About 40 years ago I had a 5 day stay in the hospital, my total bill was .25, that's right .25 and that was for my wrist name band, television was extra of course. Many other stories with my dad who had stays that amassed 100k or more and his personal outlay was a pittance. Even the best plans have increased co pays, increased deductibles and some have even dropped prescriptions or gone to a 50/50 split. My first plan had no co pays for office visits and scripts were $2.00 co pays. Your fortunate that you are at least in a group, individual plans are terrible compared to group and usually more costly, most don't offer prescriptions. Being in a small group is a definite disadvantage compared to group's like the uaw, teacher unions or congress, but so much better than individual plan. Also if you do get married and decide to have a family, most groups accept family members(if wife does have a pre existing they may put her on probation for a while then write her), not so with individual plans. I don't know the nature of your stay but it's possible that you have that pre existing condition now. Take it in stride and stay where you are at, individual plans just don't cut it like a group plan, next time it could be more serious. I have had my own small group, been a part of large group and now being retired I have an individual plan......it stinks.
  17. I use a lot of spoons and I don't care for logos on spoons myself but if they were in anyway a deterrent in catching fish I doubt the mfg would sell them that that. Try using Brasso or even toothpaste to remove the logo( I shine my spoons with Brasso quite often). Many spoons do not even come with split rings, it's a non issue really, just take them off and replace with a better one or leave off completely. Others may do it differently but I use a swivel then leader to the spoon with a loop knot. Spoons are a no brainer, cast and reel, spinning or b/c, makes little difference, just vary your retrieval speed from time to time. If you are fishing for northern or muskie a little piece of piano wire using a Haywire twist is a good idea.
  18. The picture is the 400 i, not the 300 as mentioned. Which one do you own?
  19. When the tv cameras are rolling I let them jump as much as they want, it's also the best method for catch and release.
  20. Not uncommon with peacock bass
  21. Hard to think of a good occupation that doesn't have it's share of stress and difficulty, no one pays you well for a " cake " job. If you think there is stress now just wait to you get into it, then you will really know what stress is. I would give you 2 pieces of advice for whatever career you finally decide upon. Totally commit yourself and then network, who knows you could wind up at Greenbriar.
  22. I love California, it's a great place. If I didn't have grandchildren 10 minutes from me in Florida, I'd be out there, wife rulez.
  23. Natural or not I would either do an Internet search or consult my pharmacist to see if there may be any conflict with any medications you may be taking. No disrespect to doctors but this the pharmacists area of expertise. " An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"
  24. You neglected to mention price range. The number of bearings may not mean the reel is smoother, for example a stradic has 5+1 bearings and many of the above mentioned reels have more but are not as smooth, I own most of them now including the stradic. Without doubt my stradic is the best of the bunch but my medalist is the smoothest. I like every reel I have, I think the technology is great on all of them and you probably won't go wrong on whatever you buy.
