  1. Silver spoon! I've caught game fish of almost any species I can think of on a silver spoon, than anything else. No limit to where they can be used, ponds, canals, rivers, ocean surf and offshore.
  2. not when your throwing 3-8 oz. baits !!! i am actually considering 30 # line !!! Your original post made no mention of what you are tossing, only inquired as to line strength.
  3. Weather wise this has been a tough year in south Florida. Hot and humid with little no morning breeze, flat seas, and the west wind brings the no seeums out real bad, afternoons not much better. I fish ocean or icw every single morning, but only about 4 hours (summer fishing is good) and only bass fish for an hour or so in the afternoon. We get excited when the wind blows from the east at 20 mph with 4' surf. Sept or October starts the fall mullet run until end of of Nov, that's when you want to be here, after that it's dead so I bass fish from Dec thru March. Probably average 5 hours a day thruout the year.
  4. I use p line floroclear 20# for kingfish and bonita, never had line failure , stuff is very strong. I use this line for off shore fishing, I had cxxx, didn't care for it. 20 or 25# test seems like a lot of overkill for freshwater.
  5. They call a tarpon a "poon" down here
  6. Got to my favorite spot at 4:30 this morning, was dead. Starts to get light about a 5:45 and the bait is everywhere, caught a few tiny snook and then I get slammed, 5 minutes later my line snaps. Retied a new leader put a new xrap on my 20lb class rod 4000 fi and 15# test PP and casted into the current................BAMMMMMMMMMM! A poon and not a juvy either, who knows how long but finally get it along side the pier. One of the guys goes down on the ledge to remove the hook and the consensus from the observers this bad boy goes 50 -60#, my best this year.
  7. Oops, I read that kinda of fast........sorry I mostly use hurricane redbones and they are wonderful, I own 6. Solid backbone, light and casts a ton. 89.95 I have a shimano clarus about 60 bucks and it's pretty decent, have caught 10# snook on a 6'6 6-12 model. I just had a couple of custom rods made and while it's early to give a review it looks like a lot a bang for the buck, spent 100 and 150 on the other.
  8. Freshwater.......stradic fi 2500 , go no further.
  9. I've heard of that before, do you just soak the entire spool before you spool the line onto your reel? What temp water and how long do you soak it? I don't understand the science behind it or how its supposed to work, but would give it a shot. I take the new spool and soak it in the sink with almost as hot as it goes for about 20 minutes. If you reel is already spooled just take the entire spool off the reel and soak that. I use 8000 spinning reels with 15 or 20# and the coiling gets bad this prevents it...........Twist is different issue altogether.
  10. I bought a bottle but haven't seen a reason to use it. Soaking in hot water does the trick for me each and every time and it's free.
  11. I hope is ok, but hard to say if he is kidnapped without communication from abductors. Don't you have to wait 24 hours to file a missing persons report?
  12. Caught a couple more tarpon early this morning, last couple of weeks been getting 1 or 2 just about everyday. Been doing some bass fishing in the pms and my total catch has been less than tarpon or snook. Bigger ones are starting to migrate in now, lately they have been averaging about 25-35#.
  13. I use braid but I always use a leader, just what I like, doesn't make it right or wrong. In fresh water I use a duolock and they last a long long time. Saltwater they will corrode after a while and weaken.
  14. Nice looking kings, I do my fair share of fishing for them. Cutoff from kings are common place, they may even go after a swivel on your leader. Probably get cut off 6-8 times on each each outing, using steel leaders will decrease your strikes.
  15. I read somewhere that Palm Beach County has the most pedestrian accidents in the country. Doesn't surprise me, we have a large population of seniors from the northeast(NYC), believe me half of them should not be on the road, we got sideswipped by an older lady and she didn't even know she hit us and just kept driving.
  16. I thought it was great, certainly not what I'm used to seeing at weddings.
  17. WTG,, Bassn I come from a very rough town, Detroit, but we have noticed that Florida is worse in every aspect of crime.
  18. Unreasonable to use a trolling rod as a comparison, it is not intended to be cast. Only true test is casting the same rod in various lengths.
  19. The store on Southern and 441, I preferred it over BPS, the store is much easier to navigate thru.
  20. Dick's opened here a few months ago and yesterday I made my first trip. Beautiful state of the art store with 2 levels, fishing upstairs. I was very impressed with the inventory, especially the items that cater to my style of fishing, and the way the department was laid out. Prices for the most part seemed decent or at least competitive.
  21. The luck is that I have been blessed w/ great opportunities in my life. I work my rear end off, make a generous amount of money, & then when I think that I am done, I work some more. That's the only way that I can afford my toys & the life style that I choose to live. Its all because of work, work, work, & then play. Who says money cant buy happiness. No money isn't everything, but it sure does pay for my expensive habits, house, & everything that I about want to do. Should be in the Everything Else, because it's about money bragging not about fishing. Many forum members have worked equally as hard or harder and are very comfortable
  22. Don't sell yourself short, a 35" snook is a nice one where ever you catch it.
  23. I use a Johnson weedless a lot and don't see the need to sharpen them, I hook them just fine. There are many other spoons where the hook is soldered to the spoon, off the top of my head are clarkspoons and a drone spoon. Mainly used for kingfish in saltwater but I have personally seen smaller sizes. I've thought about using a Johnson in the ocean and to my surprise I saw one made for surf fishing today at Dicks.
  24. 6:00 am, I *** you. My body clock is whacked out shape bad. Regardless of what I do and what time I go to bed I get up between 11:30 and 12:30 every morning. Some days is has no affect me other days I drag bad. Getting the worse the older I get. Tried medications, sleep clinics, nothing has helped, but I'm usually the first one at some of fishing spots haha
