  1. Regarding spooling a spinning reel I have read over the years to take the line off the top of the feeder spool, also have read take it off the bottom and yet again have read to just lay it on the floor label up. What's to believe? The few times I've mono put an at a BPS or tackle shop they take the from the bottom, I don't know if they are doing right or not. I always troll behind the boat to get that line nice and tight, and at the beginning of most outings I'll troll it again to get the twist out. Soaking my new line in hot water for 20 minutes always makes mono spool up better.
  2. I don't think the glue smell has an affect either way, you need to tie a better or different knot. I would experiment a bit, also I singe the tag end with a cigarette or bic really helps the line from pulling thru. For the guy that has everything there are tools that will singe the line ( I think battery operated). I have never used vanish but I know a guy who does and loves it. I'd have no qualms in buying it.
  3. I know nothing about surf fishing further up the coast but in south Florida a great deal of fish are caught in the "wash, trough" just a few feet off shore. For my money I'd pick flounder over anything for my table fare, further north the better they taste.
  4. 1. Xcalak, Mexico 2. Alaska 3. South America, all over, cept where they kidnap Americans.
  5. I thought it was confusing myself, I looked the reel up before I posted. To me it sound like simple line coil, which can drive ya nuts.
  6. Didn't start until 5:30 this morning ( heard I missed some good action) Caught 4 snook really fast, luckily I was using my cuda rod 25lb class, and 2 of the 4 had to be beached, couldn't lift their heads out of the water. Then I went to another area waterside where they were busting and hooked a tarpon, mad 2 jumps 3-4 out of the water and ran about 20 yd. and stopped and laid on the bottom, couldn't budge it with 15# on a 17 lb class rod....after a minute took off and threw the hook, my jig was barbless due to straightening it out over the last 2 days
  7. Is the line "coiling" off the reel, that's what it sounds like? 12 is too heavy for that small a reel 8 max but I would go with 6. Soak your line in hot tap water for 15 -20 minutes, that usually will relax the coil, it's not the brand or the reel.
  8. I don't have a rod big enough , lol yeh is one of the best outings in a long long time. The the tide cycle was perfect. Heading out real soon, but I don't expect the same kind of action.
  9. Nothing wrong with ladyfish ( poorman's tarpon) great fighters and I haven't gotten a decent jack in months. I have 3 or 4 lb lady fish make 30 yd runs, and the record is only around 7 lb.
  10. I have a line in the water between 3 am & 5 am ever day. Leave about 9, take a nap and back fishing for a couple of pm hours
  11. DOA cal jerk shad on 1/4 oz jig head
  12. Got to my spot about 5 this morning and first cast hooked into a nice tarpon. Generally a fish on the first cast is the kiss of death for the rest of the day, but not today. 20 minutes later another tarpon, dehooked him and sent it on it's way. 10 minutes later I get slammed by yet another tarpon, this time my 40# leader got snapped like sewing thread. Now it's getting light and the snook are boiling, went to waters edge and in short order caught 6 snook. To cap it off I found my xrap on shore from the broken leader.
  13. I agree that the current can get you hung up again, happens all the time. This morning I was fishing current, got hung up I did the snap routine, it didn't come close to working, jiggled the line by hand and voila out rather quick. I tried it 1 more time after that and the same result. I'm willing to try anything that might help. I totally disagree that the spine of b/c vs spinning rod would make any difference, especially if the spinning rod was a 20 or 25lb class rod. Today was a great day, no jigs or lures lost and I'll post the results in the other species section. Rw is right,in the long run you're gonna lose a bunch.
  14. I'm talking freshwater and I fish well over 300 days a year in it. Rocks are rocks where ever they're at. Type of reel being used would make no difference as to recovery method, it's the lure or jig that's stuck. Go with what's best for you, I like the way I do it.
  15. 3 things you think of when asked about fishing ? No one asks 3 favorite lures ? Xrap, Wahoo bucktails, cuda tubes 3 favorite colors or patterns ? White, white and did I mention white how often do you buy lures online ? Never how often do you visit fishing websites ? Daily what would you like to see in a fishing website ? Dealers, better prices and less rip off on the shipping.
  16. Any dollar store wax does the same thing, I use auto wax(lasts longer) for my spoons, keeps them corrosion free.
  17. I think the president xt sells for 79.95, so you got a free rod.......nice deal.
  18. Where I fish there is nothing but rocks and get a lot hangups, this is what I do and get most lures back. I open the bail or put the reel in free spool and lay the rod down. I want no tension from the line around the tip, have broken a few that way and I never jerk the rod, good way doing this repeatedly will snap a rod, done that too. Grab the line and jiggle it with tlc and lots of patience. If the jig is lodged and this method doesn't work, give it a good yank, either comes from or it's gone.close your bail, tie a new one on and go fishing. My observation when I see weekend warriors doing this....success, one out of 100. snapping the line slingshot style, have seen it done dozens of times with a success rate of zero. Oh yeh, if you are using braid don't yank the line without a glove, braid will cut you, I wrap the line around my shoulder and pull.
  19. Not a rant but a chuckle.......People that regard a tenth of an ounce as a life or death situation. Does depression set in if your bud caught a 5.2 and you only got a 5.1?
  20. I only use braid and mostly pp, never bled, fade yes, but that doesn't bother me.
  21. I care as much about secret lures as I do secret spots. Quite often when I'm in the field and I'm catching a few I may give the lure away or get a new one I have in my car, I do it all the time. I do the same with some of my prime fishing spots, I love watching other people catch fish too.
  22. exact same thing for about as long. no remedy that I have found, used to load up magnesium and calcium but didn't help.
