To leader or not to leader...
overkill.... i know..... but it is the same rod and reel i use for inshore salt, so its good for one.....and overkill on the other I'll forgive ya on that, but for inshore I mostly use 15# braid, handles most fish up to 40-50#. For me it's not the conquest but the chase.....hehe.

Pflueger Medalist reel?
If you are on a budget there are many great choices. To name just one, Pflueger trion about 40 bucks, smooth as a baby's toosh. I have seen them in combos as well. For an affordable outfit you can't go wrong.

Marketing help for Gander Mountain
Went into Gander in Palm Beach County, didn't see much of a reason to go back, especially with Lott Bros right across the street, that's a real tackle store. They are right off I-95, just got off freeway and drove right in, no signs, no gps, no problem.

Best Ice Cream Ever
The Canadian ice cream I referred to was a mom & pop homemade operation and it was super. Single scoop about the size of a fist and half for a nickle, going back a few years............lol I would imagine many of our Canadian forum members may disagree. Living within minutes of the Canadian border I can attest to some fantastic fishing, not to mention some of the most friendly people.

Fishing with ultralites.
Chris, let me qualify that no challenge remark of mine. Catching DD is a challenge no question about it and it doesn't happen everyday. But when I read posts that some guys/gals are catching 20-30 or even 50 bass a day, doesn't sound too challenging to me, fun yes challenge no. I see peeps on the side of the road here in Florida using a cane pole and redworms and their buckets are full, some people on here may *** their catch. Some of the fish that I target I may not get a strike or even see one for a week or more and I fish everyday. I'll come home toss some lure for an hour or so in my pound and usually catch a few(bass). I go into withdrawal if I have a day where I don't even catch a dink. You bet I would use live bait, the only reason I don't is I don't spend the time to catch it or drive and buy it, but not a darn thing wrong in using it. I just got this thing about plastic worms, for me it's boring and too easy to catch them, I don't even use them for a last resort.

whats the best and or most reliable knot to use with braid
I tend to swim upstream against the current. I use only braid and use only 2 knots. Tie them right, they should not fail. Standard cinch knot 8-9 twists, lures my own version of a loop knot. I will singe the tag line, better than glue for slipage.

Why Use a Spinning Reel??
I only use a conventional reel for pelagic species and lately I've been using spinning instead, I have caught many over 100# and my back gives out long before a spinning reel. Overall I can play fish much better with spinning, have no problem pulling fish out of the heaviest cover. The only disadvantage I see to spinning is the weight of the reels, but for freshwater 2500 reels weigh next to nothing. In saltwater it's not unusually to use an 8000 or 12000 series reel and they get heavy, but as rule aren't used for repeated casting.

Driving rant # 6,472
On the last 2 cars I've owned the headlights are always on in a dimmer mode. What really has been bothering me for years in Florida is almost every *******drives with their bright lights on. Don't they realize how it blinds other motorists? Worst of the bunch are the yahoos driving hi profile vehicles like suvs and pickups. Are they blind or just inconsiderate or plain stupid?

Need an opinion...
I would suggest an extreme makeover or reconstructive surgery then post a new pic.

Best Ice Cream Ever
Doesn't come close to hagen daz or coldstone, I don't like it. Canada has better ice cream their butterfat contant is higher.

Fishing with ultralites.
Whatever it takes to catch a fish works for me even live bait and plastic worms (ugh worms are for weenies, no challange), but a last resort.

Fishing with ultralites.
I'm in Bassn's camp and I know him personally, have fished with him as well. IMO fishing mh or h rod with 50 braid with a b/c reel for smallish fish is "weenie fishing" Comparing a 10-15# bass to a snook tarpon, redfish or permit( too bad we don't have stripers here) is like comparing a bluegill to a muskie and we catch these fish on 10-15# test medium rods, I use spinning. 50# tarpon will probably spool ya in less than a minute on lite tackle, but that's the challenge.

They're all gonna laugh at you!!
There is a young man that fishes out of the Boynton inlet in a 14' alum rowboat with a small outboard, it's a wonder how he can navigate those dangerous waters. He fishes with no electronics, no out riggers, no big expensive gear, no live well for bait and guys in $150,000 contender boats follow him every where he goes. This 20 year old kid is the MAN, he catches more and bigger kings, wahoos, blackfin tuna than most. There is an "old man", he took a box from a pick up truck, made it water tight, put a small outboard on it, fashioned some rod holders and goes out the inlet. Get laughs, you bet, but he brings in the fish when others are going blank.

Bassresource Ragetail Marketing Machine?
If I were strictly a freshwater fisherman I would definitely support the sponsors of this this site. I use these kinds of jigs(saltwater flats for bonefish) for my bass fishing and they work great, however I work them a bit different, but they work good as a traditional jig. I go thru tons of these, if any sponsors make anything like this I would buy some.

To leader or not to leader...
I pretty much agree with everything you say and I target inshore species. I buy nothing special for bass, in my opinion it isn't needed. I use the 10# unused braid from a spool a I've used for saltwater. When it comes to leaders which I always use, I double my line strength, 10#=20lb leader, 15#=30#leader and so on. I don't use fluorcarbon , catch as many fish without it, keep my lures to a selected few both fresh and saltwater and my production is good. I'm not adverse to trying something new but over 50 years of fishing has taught me that everything catches fish, it isn't the bow it's the archer. There is no such thing as a magic lure.

I did a very strange thing
I have a soron 40 been using it a few months. It replaced my cardinal 804, my cardinal was the bomb, not the soron. That being said I have caught many fish 10-20# on it and handles them fine, but the stradic is a superior reel. For freshwater and saltwater boat use I like the stradic but i's a sand magnet and no one uses them on the beach down here, for that application the soron seems to be a better choice.

NEVER been so frustrated
Lose them once, bad luck, twice bad luck maybe three times, you're doing something wrong. I use a med spinning rod 6/12 6'6 clarus with 10 # braid with no problems hooking them from 2/0 -4/0 hook. Once I hook them I own em'.

Just starting to realize... No Florida Bass people????
I'm from Florida and Florida is called the the fishing capital of the world for it's salt water fishing ( not like it used to be, many places are fished out). In the summer other species are hot and and speaking for myself only I prefer fishing for tarpon and snook. I bass and peacock fish in the winter months.

When a Bass Jumps, what do you do?
If I want to land them I keep my rod low, If I'm taping my next TV show I want jumping right into the boat.
-
Would you rather
The more I read this guys posts the more I like him.. I want performance, I want a fish that is a battler caught on the lightest tackle I can get away with.
-
how do you stop the bait monkey...
I'm focused and disciplined, I don't shop on line for tackle. I buy only what I'm looking for at a tackle shop. I can walk into BPS and buy nothing, if they don't carry what I'm looking for. On rare occasion I will buy some piece of junk that I never use on whim, we are all suckers to an extent.

Most accurate scale?
Any scale off the shelf may not be exact, legal is generally +/- 1%. As a recreational fisherman being off 1/10 of an ounce is unimportant to me, but if I were losing sleep over it I send it in to the IGFA. Daily handling of any scale may knock the calibration off.

Are You Tired All The Time?
Right on George. I see no M.D. or D.O. after anyone's name. See a real doctor and/or a dietician and get a physical exam. Geez fella's calm down, I just asked a question. If you don't like it simply exit the thread and go somewhere else. : Asking a question usually means you're looking for an answer. Free advice from an unqualified person is worth exactly what you pay for it, NOTHING !

South Florida
Fish have been hitting so should have decent luck, Saturdays can be crowded, but usually not as bad as the sea mist
