  1. I've cleaned so many fish that i don't want to do it again, My dad owned a market and broke me in at an early age. Gutting is important , worms can be an issue sometimes, also easier to work with the fish. I scale most most of them, then wash them down, a score cut down the backbone, then gut them. Grab the tail then work a sharp filet knife up the side. Some fish taste better with or with out the skin. Bones vary with the different species. Nothing wrong with eating your catch as long as you abide by the laws of your state. Personally I wouldn't eat bass, they aren't very good, but perch and walleye are as good as it gets.
  2. Sluggos are more versatile, they catch a larger variety of species.
  3. Pinch the tail next time, 50" is a big ego boost.........lol
  4. Bite was on fire this morning, but it was crowded, so I laid back and rapped with a flyboy. Didn't make 1 cast and didn't see a fish less than 10# come in.
  5. My weakness is patience or lack of using plastic worms. Just to slow for me, I seldom use them. But I love jigging both sweet and salt.
  6. First thing in the morning cast into the sun, they are warming up, later in the day cast into the shadows they are cooling down and protecting their eyes. Cold blooded with no eyelids.
  7. Depends on the species of fish. Bass sometimes will go after it a second time, they are not the most aggressive fish. Peacocks don't give up till they have it, seldom is there a need for second cast. I have been hit 3-4 times on the same cast till they are hooked, extremely aggressive.
  8. Better come in the summer, ocean bite is very slow in the winter, that's when I bass & peacock fish.
  9. I own most of these major brands and the sizes are not industry standard(close). In some brands only difference between smaller reel and a slightly larger one is spool size and same frame, in others the frame is bigger. You have to eyeball them in person. You can't go wrong with any of the above mentioned reels, I have my favorite, but you have to decide for yourself. I'm always willing to try something new.
  10. It is a great movie. A little side bar, there is a restaurant(s) in Mexico called Bogart's, a replication of Rick's American Cafe, costumes and all. Solid 5 star, wonderful experience.
  11. A friend of mine uses 17# vanish and played with it the other day, I thought it was sensational and I'm a braid man. Soaking any "cat gut" in hot water before spooling will eliminate those coils, never seen it fail. I use 10# pp freshwater 15# PP saltwater with mono leaders, never saw any advantage to fluro when I've used it.
  12. I know that spot. Spillways canals, the slobs are running now. sr 84, palmaire and orange dr.
  13. Net is almost foolproof but experience is the key. Keep the pressure on them, trebles will give you more trouble than single hooks.
  14. Sturgeon, St Mary's river, Michigan........no idea but a good 5 feet on a nightcrawler. Many muskie on Lake St Clair in Michigan
  15. Probably because they aren't there, big winter kill. I live not far from there, I haven't seen a peacock in ages. Last year at this time I was catching 3-1 peas to lmb at my home, none at all this year. Go south, plenty of them in south broward or dade.
  16. Never used their spinnerbaits but my go to jigs are Wahoos. Good construction and I catch fish with them.
  17. Just like a broken watch, the fish are right on twice a day. one of the smaller of about 10 caught this morning
  18. Nice looking fish I usually leave my camera in the car, fish bite better that way.
  19. I am not familiar with any waterfalls but I do know of a small spillway on a canal. One side has lmb and peacocks, and the other holds snook, tarpon, lmb........have to go at high tide.
  20. I have tried many of the knots and I always go back to my 2 knots that my dad taught me nearly 60 years ago (braid, mono or fluro) ordinary cinch and a loop knot. I know most fish for bass but my target species run larger and my knots do perfectly fine. Just make sure you tie them correctly. Words like "always" & "never" don't exist in my vocabulary, problems do arise.
  21. HAHA,,,,,,, ;D You bet!!
  22. Most likely and that is the very reason I tape instead of tying line onto the spool. I caught 2 lemons about 150# apiece back to back with a spinning outfit last summer, landed both of them, over an hour for each. Juvy tarpon are my favorite.
  23. I have done little freshwater lately but the few times I have gone the fishing stunk. I have spots where I'm always good for a few fish and over the last few weeks it's getting worse day by day, especially after the rains. As George said water flow, the biggest bass I caught was in a canal with a large irrigation pipe dripping water into the canal, I couldn't get his head out of the water.( Lyons rd, just north of Clint Moore, east side of the street) Fortunately being in Florida we have other options and that fishing is doing quite well now.
  24. A round in the 60's is very impressive.
  25. WTG,,,,,,,nice fish !
