  1. Caught another nice cuda on a tube this morning.......guys were lined up for me to give that fish away, they can't get enough of them.
  2. All the Walmart stores around here have really cut their stock back. I'm most upset as they no longer carry my favorite jig, Wahoo.
  3. Overwhelming majority of South Florida fisherman use spinning gear for inshore species such as Redfish, Trout and others, guides as well. Some do use b/c, but very few, matter of choice. I run into very few saltwater fisherman that even fish freshwater, most don't even own a b/c, however I do know a few.
  4. People kill for them. I took a slot home last year and my wife and I hated it. My wife will not cook or eat fried food, next slot I get I'm gonna try it on the grille, I've heard it's good that way. Yes I fish the Boynton inlet, nearly every day.(early morning) Bad year to fish there, big pier is closed down for at least a year(redoing it) and the small pier is too crowded to fish, but I have a few other spots in the general area.
  5. People love to rain on someone else's parade, happens here all the time. Big fish on light tackle happens all the time.
  6. A road to disaster, especially if you are getting up in age, proper way to lift is bend at the knees. Spare tires ( love handles ) an aerobic activity, which is totally different than strength training.
  7. Glad I'm out of school and retired to boot ;D Only calculations I make these days is how many miles I'm over on my leased cars driving to my fishing spots.
  8. I leave the split ring on but you don't have to. A loop knot tied to the lure has the same action as if it were tied to the ring. I have had peacocks pull the rings apart.
  9. Cubera snapper, caught 2 snook as well
  10. Now that's a fish...........
  11. Many ab exersizes kill your back, especially leg raises for lower abdominals. Hook a surgical band to a door knob, face the door and lean back. This works the abs as well the lower back and go at your own pace. I did 1 hour 15 min workouts 4 times a week on a bowflex starting in 1988, great workout but you still need cardio to shed fat. Best workout I ever did was Nordic track, but that is the one that killed my back, I still suffer from it 20 years later.
  12. "Compound interest the 8th wonder of the world" Albert Einstein
  13. If you didn't land it how do you it was 6 pounds? Unless you were fishing in 10ft swimming pool with crystal clear water you don't how many 6 pounders may be lurking. Better luck next time, it may turn out to be 8 #.
  14. Nature of the beast, it happens. I find that fish that are inhalers like bass, snook or tarpon, suck that bait in and can swallow it deep. Toothy fish like muskie, pike, mackerel and barracudas attack as to cut that fish in half and often times go back for a second hit, they don't swallow the bait or lures.
  15. I have only 2 peacock bass that live in my pond, after a few unsuccessful years of trying to catch them I finally caught the same one 3 days in a row. In the same pond yesterday I caught the same mayan two times with minutes. Identical markings and had hook hole in it's lip, I'm the only fisherman that fishes there.
  16. Thank you, I manage quite nicely with my own style and I don't even need 50# braid and mh rod to yank them little guys out & I'm doing it from high banked canals..........lol Btw my praying for rain worked, it rained and rained yesterday and we need lots more of it. Do you know what happens when it rains a lot down here? Spillways open and do you know what that means?
  17. I'm gonna get some flack on this one, but to me there is nothing more boring in the world than fishing with any kind of plastic worm zzzzzzzzz puts me to sleep and I catch fish with them. Went out yesterday pm with a bag of senkos and I was praying for rain so I could go home.....Gimme hard baits any day of the week.
  18. I've seen many 8# fish shrink to 3 once they have been weighed.
  19. That's right a runner is no bluefish, had it been bluefish I would have lasted 3 or 4 fish and gone home to take a nap. No cudas around :'( and today will probably produce nothing. Those frenzies usually only last 10 minutes or so, then the bait moves out and the fish go with them. Edit: Went back today, not a strike.........and so it goes lol
  20. Couldn't agree more. Being a pro sounds like a fun way to make a living, it's tougher than you think for very little dollars unless you are one of the 10% that earns 90% of the money. If I had a 16 year old that wanted to be a pro fisherman, I'd lock him in the house until he got a medical or law degree first.
  21. I think " Holy crap " is no big deal. The standards have changed over the public airwaves both radio and tv. I've heard what I consider to be much worse on tv.
  22. I'm a catch & release guy, but on occasion if I get a legal dolphin or snook I'll take it home. When I moved to Florida I was really bothered by the amount of fish taken for food. Now that I've been here for 5 years and see the type of people taking them I totally understand, I'm no longer bothered by it. I see this one fellow everyday, gets to the inlet about 4 am and goes thru dozens of garbage containers collecting cans for scrap value. Then he casts a net for fish and sells them to local markets. This is how he makes a living, I have the utmost respect for him, he always gets a fish I don't want.
  23. Spent my childhood fishing that lake, the Canadian side is even better. Excellent fishery
  24. I just had the top and second guide replaced locally in Boynton, cost was 12.50 for both.
