New Bait
I used a new bait this past week, well new to me as I've never used them before but have seen them. Storm wild eye swim shad 6" 7/8 oz., they worked exceptionally well in the places I fish, with 1 problem. The fish I've been hooking a 25lb class rod with 20# braid and 40# leader isn't strong enough, not really a bad problem , think a rod with a stronger backbone may do the trick. This morning I'm going out with the 5" 5/8 oz model and see how that one works.

Broken bail spring
My shimano spheros 4000 had a bad spring, took it in to my local repair shop, 2 days and $5.00 later the reel was perfect again.

P-Line Cxx
I bought some 20# cxx last month, spooled it on a shimano spheros 8000 reel and it never made it to the water, hated it. Sent p line an email and they told me to return it, wasn't really worth the postage but I did it anyway. At my request they replaced the line with floroclear, sent me 2 spools and a hat. Have used the floroclear before and I liked it so I spooled up the 8000 and it was beautiful on this reel, I also have an Avet mxj conventional spooled with it as well. This stuff is strong and is great for open water.

Fast Food Value Menus
My first Mc Donalds cost 15 cents a piece, fries a dime, and it was fast. These days I may stop in maybe 2-3 times a year, it's anything but fast now. I went back home to Detroit a couple of months ago, on my to do list was White Castle. Anyone ever hear about a Detroit slider, great fast food.

Slack tide
Very true happens all the time, good 20 mph wind will slow down the tide change here. Down here tide rules, what you're gonna catch and when you're gonna do it, actually a small window for certain species.

Scared the crap out of me
Only a few homes lost power, but the street lights were knocked out. I've read that Florida leads the nation in lightning strikes and we do lose power quite often. I was back on the pier fishing within 20 minutes, blew right over.......no fish, lol.

Snap swivels.
I use duo lock snaps for freshwater and they work well and fish don't seem to mind them. In salt water I seldom use them(just for cuda tubes)they corrode and weaken faster plus many fish will shy away from them.

Better Stock Up On Beer & Pop Tarts!
Downgraded to a cat 3, 120 mph winds. True won't make landfall but gonna have some big surf, Bermuda 30-40 waves and areas in the U.S. 10' or more. Prediction is for lots of beach erosion, that's serious and costly. Living in a hurricane area we don't take any of them lightly.

Slack tide
Even 5-6 miles from the ocean depth changes much more in the canals in my area, sometimes at low tide you can just about walk across a canal, other times it gets deep. Slack tide is different everywhere, at the Boynton inlet where I do much of my fishing slack lasts 5 minutes or less, then the tide reverses.

Slack tide
I fish the ICW almost daily, many people refer to it as the "river". Low tide cast into the current and work back to shore as the tide rises. Not knowing the strength of the tidal effect there, but here it's quite common on low tide to have no water at all on the shoreline.

Scared the crap out of me
Fishing about 4 am this morning and the started to come down in buckets sideways, then the lightning started. Me and a few others took refuge under a highway bridge. Over our heads and down about a 100' a lightning bolt hit a transformer on a pole............It was the 4th of July ! Scared the crap out of all us.

Do you ever get dizzy?
Deal! I'm looking forward to late next month, maybe an early fall mullet run, high surf, big wind and lots of bluefish.

Cheaper UL reel..
I picked up a cardinal 101 on the cheap a few years ago and it's still running perfect, 6'6 shimano scimitar 8/14 rod 10#fireline braid, nice outfit. I also have a trion #20, smooth and a better drag than the cardinal, but hate that rosewood handle, 5'6 ml 4# mono........I'd like it better with braid. Use it only with crappie jigs or light bucktails for mayans or peacocks.

Doug, hope you're feeling better.

Would you do it?
Don't press your luck anymore. Money is an easy commodity to replace as compared to.................

I hate alligators
Lately I have been seeing quite a few gators around my part of Florida. For the most part they spook real easy and just leave, but the golf course ones are used to seeing people and they don't spook, I'd be wary of them. A year or two ago a lady was jogging down in Tamarac I think and gator came out of a pond and attacked her, she didn't make it. I have hooked a number of small gators that were interested only in the bass on my line, they swim faster then I can reel. They will hit a top plug as well as a plastic worm. I'm not a fan of hunting them legal or not, but if you must do it like a man......wrestle them and the best 2 out of 3 falls win, my dough is on the gator. ;D BTW, Florida gator record is 17'5.

What size split rings for Spooks?
Didn't sound like hooks to me, how would the hooks been attached if not for a split ring? IMO split ring or not would have little or no bearing on whether the fish slips the hook.

contemplated pulling the plug and swimming back to the truck
No more boats for me, my 34' Carver after warranty became a nightmare. Every time it went out it was back in the shop with a costly repair, then 1 engine went, replaced it and the second one needed replacement as well. That coupled with dockage fee, storage for hurricane alert charge and insurance put the boat on the market. I along with a couple of friends joined a boat club, very reasonable. I opted out this year as my buds just like to drift and I prefer ICW casting, they joined a new club out of Riveria Beach this year. $4200 first year with $100 month dues, then ensuing years no extra membership and stays at $100 per month, $10 surcharge for cleaning, it's gas & go, 21'-34 boats depending on what you need for your outing. I'd never own a boat again when I can rent one.
