Magnesium used in reel frames
Quite true, but all that being said I've been using a supreme 35 in saltwater nearly a year with no ill affects. I catch fish that go 10+ and fight very hard, reel handles them beautifully. I would probably not use a mg reel in salt again only as a precaution. I rinse immediately after each use where possible, then rinse again once I get home.

for you dog owners.
Wouldn't have anything but a Golden.

Magnesium used in reel frames
In order for mg to catch on fire an ignition source is needed such as a torch. Once the mg is on fire water can cause an explosion. Your mg reel should be fine I spent over 30 years in the scrap metal industry and I knew of cases when cast iron for example caught on fire and exploded when mixed with water. Examining the shape and color of metal sparks of some ferrous and non ferrous metals is one of way of determining exactly what alloy you have. BTW other than steel and iron there are several other metals that are magnetic.

good night 17 bass total. 3 hours
That's good advice. An old belt of piece of rope will work just fine.

I hate this time of year
For me starting about now is the best time of year for fishing, more and larger fish, plus lots of action. The weather should be cooling, less humidity, change of wind direction and increased wind velocity.

On the hunt for a new spinning reel
I recommend only what I have personally owned and for at least 6 months of good hard use. My 2 supremes are perfect after 1 year. I'd buy 2 less lucky craft lures and buy a stradic fi. The number of bearings is not always the measure of a better reel, Shimano does use fewer bearings than other mfgs, but some of their reels are of higher quality than those of their competitors

pflueger supreme xt
I just bought a boca 30 a few weeks ago, great deal closeout $64(never pay retail ), but it's strictly a saltwater reel and heavy for most at over 13 oz, it's an excellent reel so far and I like it. I wouldn't recommend anything until I've used it at least 6 months.

pflueger supreme xt
Order it sight unseen ? I had the supreme xt in my hands a couple of times, just didn't like it, then I played with the supreme non xt and I liked it better, so I bought the non xt 30 &35 and they are ok, but not a stradic. Just can't see why the xt is $ 30 more. I have a medalist and I think it's a far better reel, smoother and well built, mine is 3 years old used in saltwater and it's like new(smoother than my stradic), but it is a little heavy.

Fish a cast
I seldom go to Lake Worth beach. My usual routine is to hit the inlet early, but I'm getting bored there, fish for a bit and I have some buddys hang out there. I drive down to Gulfstream beach, park opens at about 6:45 so at about 5;45 or so I park in one of the condo lots and hit the beach for snook. At 6:45 I drive a few blocks back to the park and work the beach for an hour or 2. It's not always this hot, many days it's dead, but when the bait is in it's a good spot. I landed a nice 10# or so jack and hooked a big tarpon the other day. No beach mullet like Juno but a lot of white bait, mullet be here soon with some rough weather I hope. Hardly ever is there anyone fishing there, get a few during the mullet run.......it's my private spot

Fish a cast
Went to my " private" beach( not private but seldom see other fisherman, lot of women ) this morning and for at least 1/2 mile in each direction fish were pounding the bait. Sometimes there's a lot fight in a small dog, these dogs being ladyfish. For roughly 45 minutes it was a fish per cast, lost 4 plastic shad, 2 spoons and a xrap, either bitten in 2 or a snapped leader..they hit anything. Lose a fish on the jump and another one on the line before you have reeled another 5'. These are not glamour fish or are they very big, but a sensational fight on light tackle and if you like aeriel acrobatics this is great fun. For those of you unfamiliar with this species. http://www.indianriveradventures.com/ladyfish.htm

Braided Line
How many times do you need to see a pic of the Mona Lisa to know what she looks like, 2 maybe 3? Regarding a box of Fireline , the visual was embedded in my mind after the first testimonial, just like Andy Warhol's can of tomato soup, once was enough to get the picture. Perhaps using the Fireline box as an avatar or in the signature field may be beneficial as reminder for those viewing threads pertinent to other topics.

bucktail jigs
I use these bucktails that have weedguards and I just leave them as is. It's called a flats jig, works great for bass or any kind of fish.
-
Braided Line
I could live without seeing that box again, it's tantamount to fishing gear proselytization. An opinion in text form is sufficient.

Need to vent my frustrations...
Regardless of the species any fish that jumps will throw that hook( must keep a tight line when jumping), with practice you will lose less fish. There isn't a fisherman alive or dead that has landed every fish hooked, don't read more into it. Many people love watching them jump, my self included.
-
Help with technique specifics...
I'd pick the technique first, then select the equipment to buy, reducing confusion.

bucktail jigs
Many survival kits including military include a couple of jigs...they work. In my main venue it's toss up as what catches more fish, spoon or jig, applies to fresh or saltwater.

Re: Body building = more sensitivity?
Muscle weighs more than fat, you can be thinner but weigh more. BTW muscle sinks , fat floats.
-
bucktail jigs
I use my saltwater jigs for bass, bucktails or red tailed hawks and they work well. They can be fished several different ways, not in order of effectiveness. straight retrieve vary retrieval speed and work them up and down in the water column slow jig off bottom, raise em up and let em fall twitch and and a quick pause

The Best days to fish...
Don't feel bad...........I killed them yesterday both fresh and saltwater, today I didn't have a strike, 4-8 am on the beach and 90 minutes in my pond and canal.

Rage Shad issues.
I've had no issues with the toad. I've used them along side horny toads and the strike ratio is about the same, however I like the hookset way better with the rage, imo it's a better bait. Not near as durable as the zoom toad, but if you're catching fish who cares. I've had better success slow popping them over buzzing.

Favorite weedless lure for kids?
Went out yesterday afternoon for a bit, had a senko on, very boring for me, so I can just imagine how a kid may be bored to death then having trouble setting the hook. After a 15 minute episode of an exercise in futility I put a Johnson gold weedless spoon with a twin tailed grub. For the remainder of my outing it was non stop action, no worry about a hookset, it's almost automatic and no weeds. As I was fishing I thought this set up had a lot of merit, it allowed me to work the water column by varying my retrieval speed along with the elevation of my rod tip. Good teaching tool for a new angler.
-
what size lures?
I'm not a real scientific or technical fisherman so I just use what ever I want. I'm usually not to far off the rod parameters but carrying only 1 rod I may put a 3/4 oz or 1 oz spoon on a rod designed for 5/8 and think nothing of it. I can go the other way, will put a fly on spinning rod and just work the trough 10-15'.

It's the thrill.....
I think I fish heavy for bass, spinning only 4# mono on ul, ponds 10# braid ml rod, canals medium rod with 15# braid. The line is heavy enough but I use a heavier rod to hoist them out of high banked canals, any thing over about 6 or 7 # I got to go down and get them by hand. My bass season does not start until about late November, humidity and bugs keep me inside, I will get out to the pond for about 45 minutes everyday. For my snook, tarpon and jacks, it's spinning 15 or 20# braid, 7'or 7'6 rods 8/17 or 10/20 line class, not real lite, but certainly not what you call heavy. For the most part my decision is not based on what I'm fishing for but what outfit I'm in the mood to use that day, I have 6 inshore outfits and I use each of them in a weeks times. Putting a 7 th into service soon, getting bored I'm buying a 9 or 10' surf rod.

It's the thrill.....
I believe that statement to be true, that being said I've never seen it happen but have seen gut hooked fish die not too mention predator kill after an exhausted fish is released, which I have seen with my own eyes. I've been fishing Florida coastal waters since our first home in 1977(part time, now full time here)and have seen the catch greatly reduced. Probably more from overfishing, population growth and increased pollution than a build up of lactic acid. I may get some darts thrown at me, but I won't do anything but light tackle until I'm physically unable. Not my intent to kill any fish, but in the rare event of death due to lactic build up, that fish won't go to waste, it becomes part of food chain and if it's legal I may be part of that chain.

It's the thrill.....
My style Works great if you are a bait fisherman, I throw artis. Only if you tie, I tape. Worse case is loss of line and lure. I like the way Mrlitetackle fishes.
