  1. well, i really don't know what kind of wood it is, feels pretty light, maybe balsa? Just found it laying around. as for what I'm using to carve it. I don't have a band saw or anything so i cant do a real good job of cutting it, maybe i could talk to my old teacher, i know he has one in his classroom. i did a little hand carving with a knife, and most of it sanding with a dremel. I think I'm just going to split it in half instead because i accidentally made it smaller than i intended. Few questions: -what kind of epoxy should i buy and where is a common place that sells it? -what would be the best joint type to use to make this work - any tips on how to make it swim without a lip, or do i just gotta experiment?
  2. What kind of rigging do you use for catching carp, i know that where i fish there are loads of them sitting around the docks.
  3. My grandpa always took me fishing when i went over his house, catching panfish and such and it was really fun. then i just didn't go anymore, i don't know why, i just didn't. 3 Years ago i went on vacation to traverse city Michigan, and we stayed on lake intermediate, i had just a zebco 222 and i mostly fished worms, i saw my cousin tony using a spinning reel and fake worms, we didn't catch anything though(because me or him really had no idea of what we were doing lol). the next year i got a spinning rod and me and him fished that lake top to bottom, still didn't catch anything, but we sure had fun. That's what got me started. I got cemented in fishing just last year...I was fishing with a zoom trick worm, watermelon seed. with a 1/4oz tungsten weight, throwing it to shallow as heck water, it was late, i was ready to go, and then i got a hit, i didn't really know what to do so i just started reeling, no hook setting or anything. I had reeled in my first bass on a artificial lure, i was so proud of my self that i called my mom right after i took a picture and released it. The next day i was at the same spot, don the same thing, not getting crapola! A guy walked my and started watching me i guess i didn't really care, i was bent on catching my second bass. He stood next to me and said "here i gotta a better idea, lemme put something on your line that i know will work!" He gave me a 4/0 offset gamakatsu hook, a 1/16oz weight, and a 7 inch Berkly power worm in motor oil. By the end of the day, i had 17 fish. To this day, that is my favorite setup ever, and me and that guy are good fishing buds, even though we don't know each others names after fishing with him a whole summer lol.
  4. I'll try it without a lip, if the magic doesn't work, then I'll add one.
  5. I love this place, to some, its a second home.
  6. UPDATE:I gotta put things on hold because my funds gotta go to lacrosse instead of fishing. So I'm gonna start my first swim-bait, after lurking and researching, I'm finally gonna begin. I'm gonna start off with something small, like a tru tungsten 4 inch swim-bait, same size but probably only 3 sections. Something like that, except I'm gonna make look more like a blue gill (maybe a perch) I started cutting the wood and doing some rough sanding, ill get pics asap.
  7. Yeah, I don't worry about it too much, sometimes when I'm messing around in my tackle box, I might have a lead bullet weight in my teeth ready to go on line, I'm trying to get off the bad habit, but so far it hasn't done anything to me. Yet..... If your worried about it enough, read up on it.
  8. yah i saw Bill Dance doin that on his show but havn't tried. When i get a bird nest i dont pick at it, i pull out as much line as possible untill i get to a part where i cant pull out anymore, then, i tighten my drag all the way and put a lot of pressure on the spool. Then i reel in as hard as possible with my thunb on the spool, then press the thumb thing, and pull out more line, i continue this till its gone.
  9. so i have a way that i cast where i just have the rod at my side and kind sling the bait out, problem is it is totally inaccurate. i tried casting by swinging to rod over my head then forward but my bait goes up, then down, and all I'm left with is unfixable bird nest :-? Any tips? Please and Thank You!
