  1. Thanks for the heads up. Is that rod really worth $140, or are Cableas rods like BPS' rod? You know the kind you don't pay full price for.
  2. I picked up some 9" jellyworms from TW. My question is do I fish it weightless w a 5/0 hook? Maybe splitshot, weighted? I haven't used anything this long before, any help would be great.
  3. I had that happen to me at the BPS in Rossford. The worst part is it is 1 1/2 hour drive. I like Cabelas better, but that is even farther. Gander Mtn. is pretty close, but not tailored to much bass fishing. Tackle Warehouse seems to be the best place to buy online as of right now. The free shipping for orders over 50 clams rocks, and have used them a few times with no problems.
  4. That combo is a great starter combo. Pfleuger makes some good stuff, and when you get proficient with it you will be back at gander to upgrade, I guarantee it. Good Luck!
  5. I really like using netbait paca craws, but I haven't seen what colors they are now up in NE Ohio. I use black/blue in early spring, green pumpkin/blue in late spring. What color do they turn in the summer? I looked at the color chart, but am kind of lost. Please help!
  6. I don't know about shimano baitcasters, but their spinning reels rock. I have two SX's, one STX, and one S. I tried a couple of comparable brands, but am partial to the Revo's. IMO the SX casts a bit farther, and the STX is buttery smooth and the drag can pull ou monsters, but the S seems to haandle most applications just fine and dandy.
  7. with lighter line i use a sweep set, kind of like walleye fishing.
  8. It depends, I'll burn it in, vary retrieve speeds, jerk it side to side, and in deep water you can even jig it.
  9. Chrome black, Chrome Blue, Black Gold, Red Craw, Foxy Shad. These are the colors that I use and they all produce great. The XR50 is one of my favorite lures to use.
  10. I think I'm going to buy some cheapies on ebay to test out before I try on a revo, but I'm thinking just starting out with a single color and work from there.
  11. I guess I would have to take the whole reel apart and only paint the frame, and handle. I don't know if you have to remove the old finish first, or just scuff it like painting a car?
  12. Ihave been thinking of having a reel custom painted. A good friend of mine paints custom cars and just about everything else. Before I hand him a reel what should we know? Or are there any people who do this on the site? Any ideas would be great.
  13. I have 3 lowriders and a cara, these rods are great, made in the US, and are relatively low cost for the guys who can't afford loomis and high end st. croix's. And the bucoos look sexy. I'm already saving up for a couple.
  14. There are some good articles in here to help you out with using spinnerbaits. I really like using War Eagle, but booyah, terminator and strike king work well too. What type rod and reel are you using? As far as colors, I use white and chartreuse, white and red, chartreuse, fire tiger, and gold with a brown skirt, and black at night.
  15. Thanks guys, I'm going up there this weekend.
  16. I was at Dick's yesterday and saw a Quantum Code combo for $120. The rod is IM8 and felt decent, and the reel is 7:1. Anyone have one? I am curious as to if they are worth it. I know that this is not an Avid with a Curado on top, but I want a 6' rod and a high speed reel due to all of my rods are 7'0 plus and want a shorter rod, but not too much cash on hand. Any input wolud be great.
  17. Chartruse Spinnerbaits, Top water poppers, black and bright plastics
  18. Reels- Shimano Citica, Pfleuger Cetina/Trion, Revo S, Shimano Cardiff 100A, Abu Garcia C3/C4 Rods- I'd go with a 6'6" or 7' Medium maybe Medium Heavy Falcon original, Shimano Compre, Diawa Tierra, BPS Pro Qualifier and Johnny morris rods are good but don't pay full price for them, there is too much mark up on them. St. Croix Premier and Mojo I bought a cheap baitcast reel to learn on and it ended up a waste of money. I'd go with the quality reel and a average to good rod to start. You can always upgrade the rod when you get comfortable and want to spend the duckets.
  19. I like them, but also use Terminator and strike king too. The spinnerbaits are IMO the shizzle though.
  20. I usually use black buzzbaits, and spinnerbaits, black senkos or powerworms. I have also use white at night, I caught my largest bass ever at night using a white War Eagle. Top water plugs work for me too.
  21. Symetre 2500 FI Sahara 2500 Pfleuger President XT
  22. Ditto on what they said. I think the only important thing is getting accustomed to using the baitcaster. To me the reel is a good reel to learn on, and easy to maintain. This combo should be good for spinnerbaits, Texas rigs - as long as you stay in the vicinity of the weight spec on the rod, most crankbaits. Bass get bigger where you live so you might want to start with 12lb. test and through trial and error figure out what works best for you. Yozuri Hybrid, and Izorline are my favs. Good luck
  23. I have an Avid 7'0" MH rod and use it for everything but finnesse applications. It is also the shortest rod I own as of now.
  24. I bought a couple last year and refuse to buy any other brand now.
