  1. I have a carbonlite that makes this same noise near the end of the cast. I just deal with it because it is one light weight fishin machine.
  2. You know something,I used to fish Quantum rods and reels and I really got turned off on their stuff so I went bouncing around using all stars and st croix's. Well I picked up a quantum pt 7' mh on sale last fall and it is my favorite rod of the 60+ rods I have. I came across this same model of rod on sale a few weeks ago and picked up the hackney 7-11,and two 6-6 mh. These rods are very light and very sensitive,I love all four of them. I dont see any quantum reels in my near future though.I kinda like my revo's, and carbonlites.
  3. I've used the pit boss and the craw both in green pumpin and they both caught fish. I was pitchin both of these baits into heavy cover. I tend to like the pit boss more for pitchin it seems to get in and out of cover a little better. The claws on the craw seem to tear off easily.
  4. The wife and I made a trip down to the lake this morning. We got a late start arriving at the ramp at 9am. I know I know, anyways, when a high pressure moves in it really puts the clamps on these fish so I was not in a big hurry to get there. Today was no exception for the most part. I did not see any shad or bass bustin as we moved down the bank. So we went to fishin the docks and lay downs, we caught a few dinks around some docks and the wife nailed a nice 3 lber on a bomber 4 A crankbait in the new moss back craw pattern. If you have not tried this new crankbait you need to give it a shot. We have caught several nice bass on these within the last few weeks. As the morning turned to early afternoon we begin to see some shad schooled up and an occasional bass bustin on them. I tied on a couple storm shad swim baits and we begin to throw these at the shad. My wife finally had a nice one hit and it was pullin drag but got off. Forgot to set the hook just started reeling. That was for the most part the end of the big bass chasin. We caught several more nice fish the rest of the afternoon with the majority of them coming from around docks on a shaky head zoom trick worm.My two weeks of vacation is winding down so I will be back to being a weekend warrior. Thanks for all of your input.
  5. Hey I appreciate everyones input, keep them coming. I am going to try all items mentioned so far. If I nail one I will get the pics on here if I can figure out how. I failed to mention I was nearing the ramp yesterday and getting some last cast in when one of these monsters blasted a shad up ahead of me. It sounded like a truck falling in the water. Anyways I just kept throwing and cranking forgetting all about this fish and I get down to where it had kabooshed and out of nowhere my crankbait gets flat hammered dead in its tracks. I swept the rod sideways and barley moved this fish I felt its head thrash back and forth I got two cranks in and it came unbuttoned. I was just sick guys. I was throwing a shad pattern Normans Middle N,it was fairly new and I had not changed the hooks out on it yet????? Could of been the problem I dont know? All I know is that it was a huge fish. Again I apprecdiate everyones input.
  6. The shad are appx 6 to 7 inches long. I got a good look at them yesterday. They swim around in schools about 5 feet by 5 feet. I think it will be hard to mimic them because they are in perpetual motion swimming around and around.
  7. Thanks for the advice,I went to TW and looked at the magic shad. Thats a great looking bait.
  8. Here is the situation. This is a small 30 acre lake with a very healthy bass population. In the past few years you can catch several big bass up around the docks during the spawn. When I say big bass I am taLking from 4 lbs to 7 lbs. After they spawn the big girls move out away from the bank and follow balls of shad around the lake. I want to target these big bass because I know there are 8+ lb bass in this lake. What can I throw to catch these bass? I have thought about a 7 inch swim bait, or a big jerk bait. I was looking at a piture of a 7 in huddelston swim bait and it looked like these shad to a tee. If anybody has any experience with this I would appreciate your help. I would like to add that the top half of this lake is silted in fairy bad and a lot of this is going on in 4 foot of water out in the center. The deep water is down at the dam where it is 10 feet.
  9. I bought them from simmons sporting goods in alabama over the internet. They are out of the hackney but they still have the 6-10 biffle rod. I went on there site a while ago and noticed they are back up to 199. ???? Do not know whats going on there. I wished I would of bought two of the hackneys, I am really liking this rod. It has just enough tip to pitch with, and the parabolic bend is awesome, in other words your arm and elbow does not have to absorb the shock of the hook set when you are in real close on pitchin bass.
  10. I just purchased a Hackney 7-11 pitchin rod and find the rod to be a very nice rod. It might be a tad heavier than I originally expexcted it to be,and thats comparing it to the Tour PT 7 ft mh rod that I have. I am currently using 15 lb vicious fluorocarbon on it and find it to be very sensitive. The rod has awesome parabolic bend to it when setting the hook on a fish. I bought this rod on sale for 60 percent off original price. After fishing the rod, would I pay full price for it.....no. But, then again I would not pay the outlandish prices slapped on the GLommis rods either.I picked up the KVD 6-6 MH TOUR PT ROD also and it is as light as a feather and very sensitive. Just a little word on the vicious fluorocarbon, if you have not tried it you need to give it a shot. I had a 3.5 lber wrap me around a jagged steel post on a dock and after several pulls back and forth(30 sec worth) he finally came back around and I put him in the boat. This line was frayed but never broke. I really like this line after a shot of KVD line conditioner. It is not as clear as the berkley fluo. but I fish stained water all of the time so it does not matter to me.
  11. I had this happen to some strike king crankbaits and a lucky craft too.
  12. Its funny you bring this up. I was going through a pile of plastics just the other day and came across 7 or 8 bags of the ol yamamotos. I threw some in the boat and plan on trying them the next time I go. I used to fish them on the oldham screw lock jig head. I think I will opt for a football head this time around.
  13. I quit using them also. I could not get them to run straight what so ever. Nothing but excalibers here folks.
  14. I was wondering if anybody had any feedback on the Hackney flippin rod from Quantum? I have been eye ballin one for a while. Thanks in advance.
  15. I have been pitchin with a 7' MH Quantum Tour PT paired with the carbonlite and have not had one second of problem. This is one light weight awesome set up. The 5 biggest went 21-2 two weeks ago pitchin a stupid tube to docks and laydowns. I am ordering another carbonlite as soon as I get off of here. After using this reel for 6 or 7 hours you do not want to use the others they feel very heavy.
  16. Yep went over to Tackle Warehouse and found it posted there. It was the 7' medium. Thanks.
  17. Excuse me for asking a simple question. It had nothing to do with who won what. I bought several square bills this winter and have been looking for a rod to throw them on. Maybe I should of ask another Revo vs. P.Q. question. Thanks to those of you who tried to help out.
  18. I have been looking everywhere and cant find out what length or action rod he was using. Anyone know???
  19. So,the warm water side is on the west side? I thought it was the other way around. Thats why I am on here asking questions. Thanks.
  20. Is it half way up the arm or down towards the dam?
  21. I have been thinking about heading over for some winter action. I have never been there but I hear there is a 25 HP restriction. Will my trolling motor get me up the warm arm or half way? It is a motor guide 55lb 24volt. I really do not know what to expect. How far away is the ramp from the warm arm of the lake? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
