So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
You are a funny guy..lol last note on this then you can leave this disaster lake and this thread. no place on earth continues to rise and never sees declines. The big O, Guntersville, Falcon,etc.. It's always a cycle. Some argue environmental changes or situations and some pressure. Ever heard "all good things come to an end"? It happens . But the great thing about Mother Nature is she always rebuilds it. Is it on a decline? Time will tell. Its too early to say that now, much less based on one trip and what some locals say. But it will always come back. i respect your opinions, but your facts need work, too bad you can't admit that. Cheers.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
i unsubscribed from him when I read " the lake is 8-10ft low". He was defending himself on another forum. I find it not a coincidence that he comes here to defend himself and yet again spews bad information. If you are going to publicly write about a topic do your work and get the facts straight. Compare with multiple resources. And not just grab the first article you get on google. He put himself in a situation with that article and he knows it. He never before had to come join random forums to defend himself. I have nothing against him. If i'm going to follow a writer I expect him to do his homework. Everyone thinks you can just put your bait in the water and you get a 10lber. You have to work for the fish. the fish adapt, the fisherman needs to follow.

Please eat BASS!
i have found that bass from different lakes taste different. Not sure why, but the bass here in south la taste great and I hate fishy tasting fish. if that makes any sense. Just eat the small ones and you can't tell a difference from a sacalait, perch, or bass.

"Punching" for largemouths
i like to use the lightest weight that will get through it. So it could be different every time out.

i think graph choice should be based on maps and maps of the areas you fish most. Thats the reason I went with lowrance. More options of satellite imagery maps for south louisiana. (legend cartography, E-standard mapping chips) For toledo I purchased the navionics premuim south chip. i believe the only satilelite overlay option for mapping on hummingbird is the navionics platinum. Maps chips can get expensive.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
There are a couple coves towards the front with some grass, but very little in the back of paulo. Honestly if the weather allows try to find some humps in 12-15ft of water close to the main channel swings. Hopefully you can find a couple that has some stumps or some type of cover on it. We fished the grass along the banks hard and it was a grind. Most of the fish caught looked spawned out. Unless the full moon pulls some more up for spawning but just seems like in the majority of the spawning in this area is done.

our annual trip is coming up. So far as I can see the first couple days weather wise looks promising. Lake at full pool which i've fish before. We are going to run our normal spots, but i have a few general questions. Whats the water visibility in paulo? This is where we stay and always put in at least once back there. Been lots of attention to the hay grass this year with the water level, have not heard much about the buck brush though. Its it still a factor? I would expect there still to be some spawners south by the dam, anyone still running across bedding fish? Water is so stained where I fish in my home waters just seeing beds in toledo is pretty amazing to me. Only really had one trip where we stumbled across a small cove with beds everywhere, but i think we were a little late cause only a small portion had fish and were all small males. I finally got a bigger boat this year so even though fish are still spawning I hope to find some action offshore.

poor indian mounds.. sure getting a lot of attention lately. With getting voted #1 lake and all the LA sportsman's articles mapping out where the DD's have been caught it seems to be getting the bulk of the pressure. Wasn't even a few years ago you would have maybe 5 boats at the launch on a weekday.

a lot of people can catch fish. Its finding the fish that makes you a real fisherman that can adapt on the water. This thread is to do just that. Teach you how to read a map and take that knowledge to the lake. Much more satisfying than having someone else pick a spot for you. just my opinion.

great rod for the price. I have several of them and have no problems as of yet. I even use one for redfishing and it handles well. I'm mainly a flipping/pitching guy and I like the extra stiffness. Thats the man difference i see compared to other rods is a MH is more of a H. I have a couple that I was able to find brand new for 65 dollars also. Just got to be patient and shop around. I've been really interested in trying the crankbait rod.

Brush Hog Vs. Baby Brush Hog
baby brush hog 1/4oz tungsten bullet weight, no peg, watermelon seed red, 30lb power pro braid, 4/0 EWG if I had one bait this would be it. If it gets real stained to a little dirty switch to junebug The only time I peg the weight is during the spawn when in my area they are in the roots of the cut grass and you have to land your flip in a quarter size hole.

Looking For New Ways To Fish Plastics For Largemouth
try some super flukes. You can work them just about anyway you want. But I would go with a 1/4oz tungsten bullet weight on a watemelon seed red baby brushhog.

How Does Bass Taste?
well i guess i'm in the minority cause I don't consider bass a low end filet that I can cook. You can see in my picture its not smothered with anything. In fact the pieces I cook for my kids has hardly any spices because they don't like spicy food. I'm from south La.. hot sauce and tonys goes in everything except cereal. I don't know. I find it to be one of the cleanest fish you can cook. You never have to worry about bitting into a bad piece or a blood line. I don't like my fish to taste like you just licked the scales.

How Does Bass Taste?
grilled bass is my favorite fish to eat. After filleting them, i sit them in ice cold water and clean them up with a sharp knife removing anything I don't like the looks of. I marinate them with a slight touch of mustard (too much and you will taste it), fat free Italian dressing, lemon juice, and Louisiana hot sauce. Put in fridge for a day. I cook on an indoor electric grill at 275 degrees only flipping fish once. Before putting fish on grill coat grill with Pam and coat fish with a generous dose of Paul Prudhomme's blackened redfish magic. Pay attention as to not dry out fish it doesn't take long. Once of the grill sprinkle fish with parmesan cheese..

Private Ponds/lakes Cheating?
this is how I feel. my biggest bass came from a 1 acre pond and i refuse to mount it or classify it as my personal best. i like the fact that you do know the fish are there so you take finding fish out of the equation and can work on your skills especially under used techniques or new baits.
