  7. People are really talking about steroids and everything that is wrong in baseball and some are leaving the sport as fans. Just because people are talking about him, doesn't necessarily make it a good thing. I kinda get what you are saying but not really a fair analogy, IMO. The troubles you speak of in baseball are of people trying to gain an unfair advantage by using performance enhancing substances (cheating) and then lying about it. Ike yells and screams and does other unorthodox things that some folks may find offensive, heck he may even have Demonstrations of domination over a smaller object/fish, but cheating and then lying about it (baseball guys) I don't think so. To some people he is a villain and to others hero. Just what every successful sport needs. Please read all of my posts before you assume I'm taking a side here. I don't have a dog in this hunt. I'm just saying that the argument of everyone talking about Ike's actions being good for the sport isn't necessarily so. If he offends 25 percent of the people and they are talking about it maybe it's not such a good thing for the sport. Maybe, maybe not.

  9. Yeah, yelling, screaming, and making yourself hard to ignore is definitely a step above being a hick. : Not that I have any trouble with Ike the way he is, but I tend to prefer a quieter, respectful demeanor. However, one can show respect and get excited at the same time. He is what he is. Some people like it and some people don't but none of us can read his mind and know his intent, good or bad.
  10. Yes, even nets made of rubber remove some slime. So I don't use nets nor do I allow my fish to lay on my carpet if I can avoid it. The whole point is to avoid what might damage the fish if we are going to release it. We can avoid rubbing the slime coat off of fish if we try. As for hooks, I don't know of anyway to avoid using them, do you? If you can come up with a sporting way to catch fish so that we can avoid hooking them in the mouth, you may become a very rich man.
  11. You have to bleach the stubble, Tin.
  12. It doesn't directly kill them. It removes the protective slime coat from their bodies which makes them more susceptible to bacteria that can kill them.
  13. I swing a fish now and then, but only if I can swing it to my hand as Flechero stated. If it appears a bit large to swing, it's best to reach down and lip it, IMO.
  14. I heard several comments from other competitors as well as in the 'real time' blogs where, over the course of the tournament, some anglers stopped to help others in trouble (like Ish did, for example), others who were not really in contention to win the tournament gave way to other anglers (in terms of fishing locations), various things like that -- those are really things that I thing don't get the publicity that they should. They don't get the glossy coverage and footage, but hearing of those things.....especially when the stakes are so high..... is what I really think is neat to see. Good point, Mike. That is where the rubber meets the road and it sounds like a lot of guys stepped up.
  15. Unfortunately, I have not used the Zillions. The Powells are very good rods and a very good buy at their price point.
  16. thanks y'all. honestly daniel, your guess is as good as mine bro. i just admired her briefly and put her back quickly after a couple of pix. didn't weigh her. she was a beautiful fish though. not very long, but super thick and chunky. probably a little over 2 pounds. I see you had your tongue firmly planted in your cheek yesterday. That's another nice fish and the color is nice. She must have not been too deep.
  17. That's some beautiful water, Burley. Better luck next time.
  18. Nice group of fish there, hawgchaser. Cool story!
  19. There are a lot of guys here who have decked out their jon boats and I'm sure you will find a wealth of information on this subject if you do a search or just pose a question about it. Welcome!
  20. We're all here to learn, no matter how experienced we are. I'm looking forward to your input. Welcome!

  23. I understand the feeling, Marcia. I will scout an area but if I have a rod handy it is just too tempting and I'll eventually make a few casts while I'm there. I will often go for a time without casting while I learn the structure and layout of an area but if it looks good, I will usually make some casts. If I'm going to do nothing but reconnaissance, I have to leave the tools at home.
  24. Bill has that neighborly attitude. You can't help but like the guy. Great interview!

Congratulations to Skeet. I was pulling for my man from Missouri, Snowden. (Have to root for the locals. ) Skeet has definitely been a consistent performer and it is nice to see him put this last feather in his cap.
