  3. For "Walk the Dog" type baits I use mono and braid. Braid may not stretch but if you use it with a forgiving rod and be patient, you won't have to worry about pulling the lure out of the fish's mouth. (I don't think it is that difficult to be patient if you keep your head in the game.) I personally think that my walking action with Zara Spooks is slightly better with braid than with mono. It could be all in my head but I think I notice a dip in the nose of a walking bait with fluoro even when I walk it fast so I avoid using it with this application.

  6. First of all, Foo-G, welcome to the community! There are a number of things you can do with old baits. I think the suggestions to provide them to young anglers and youth organizations are great. Also, keep in mind that old baits that aren't used by anglers anymore can sometimes be a hot ticket on a highly-pressured reservoir because the bass are no longer familiar with them.
  7. I think it would be really cool. I've watched the show, Hook 'n' Look, and while I don't learn much from the show itself, the portions where they scuba dive and check out the fish's haunts are intriguing.
  8. Welcome, huelsy12! I'm an alumni of Southeast Missouri State. I graduated in Spring, 1987. I'm not too familiar with places to fish in the Cape Girardeau area, but Wappapello is a good lake to fish near Poplar Bluff. There's also Perry Lake near Perryville which is about 30 miles North of Cape. There is a member here who is from the Cape Girardeau area. His screen name is Daniel My Brother. Give him a PM and see what information he can provide.
  9. Welcome! I'm jealous. You can't beat fishing Lake Fork on your birthday. 8-)
  10. Alhuff, I know the feeling. I had a period last Fall where I averaged almost 100 hours a week at work for a couple of months. I pretty much drop off the face of the earth when that happens. I hope all is well. Welcome back!

  12. Welcome back to the world of fishing!
  13. I see nothing wrong with your posts, Dom. Thanks for the info. I've used Reel Magic before, but after reading some of the anecdotal comments on the KVD stuff I finally decided to try it.
  14. Have any of you guys tried Montrose Lake? It's off of highway 18 west of Clinton. There is an old powerplant there. I've read some decent fishing reports from there but I always go to Truman when I'm down that way. One time, on the trip back from Truman, I decided to stop there and try it out but it was closed to fishing. From October 15th - February 15th it is closed as a waterfowl refuge.
  15. This is an interesting discussion. I just bought some KVD line and lure conditioner to try it out. I was hoping it would make a big difference with fluorocarbon and hybrid line coiling. I was going to try it on regular monofilament also.
  16. I agree wholeheartedly. I also agree with RW that it is fun to use specific rods for techniques they were designed for.

  21. Sorry, I skimmed it quickly and missed the part about the 10 HP motors. Great site though! It gives you information about the populations of the sport fish that inhabit the waters and everything.
  22. WIII-60, when you pull up the list of lakes for a region and then click on the lake in the list it pulls up an area summary. There are menus on the left and if you go to Area Resources and click on area brochure it pulls up a pdf file of the brochure. The brochure states that Maple Leaf is an electric motor only lake. I don't think all of them have a brochure though. Most of the lakes that are a couple of hundred acres or less are electric motor only.
  23. If I lived on the south side of the metro area I'd be going to Truman as much as possible. Besides, the other lakes mentioned, there are some other smaller lakes down there. Lone Jack and Maple Leaf come to mind. If you've never done so, check out the Missouri Conservation site for places to fish. Enter the region or the county you want to fish and it will pull up all of the places that exist in that area with simple maps, brochures, lake features, and information on the fish populations at that particular body of water. http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/applications/moatlas/AreaList.aspx?txtUserID=guest&txtAreaNm=s
  24. Welcome, BassGuzzler! I'm looking forward to your updates on the progress with your boat.
