  1. I also fish from the bank and usually shakey head the trick worms or throw them weedless on top of floating grass pas and twitch across the top, I texas-rig my 10" culprits. Last year I came across a tip that worked pretty good. You push your hook, untied, through the end of a tube, remove the hook, and thread it on your line, then put your weight on and tie your hook on. The put your worm on like usual, push the weight into the tube and slide it down your line like a normal weight. The tail of the worm gives it's normal action and the tentacles of the tubes give some action up front. I fish it by hoping it across the bottom.
  2. From my experience most farm ponds aren't very deep at all, maybe 10-12 ft deep, and I have caught 4's and 5's easily over the years. In fact our state record, here in North Carolina, was caught in a farm pond and it weighed something like 14 I think.
  3. I don't drink at all while fishing during the day, tried it once right after I turned 21 and it wasted more time than it was worth. Me and my buddies will drink when we're catfishing all night, and that used to turn into a whole weekend, but we don,t drink till sun up we just sit around the fire shoot the bs and enjoy the time.
  4. Just can't stand the guy's voice. If I were the cameraman I would drop him off in the middle of the lake and wish him the worst as I sped off.
  5. Thanks LCpointerKILLA for the compliment and Sharkbite I do use this most of the time I go.
  6. Depends. When bass fishing it just depends on my mood and where I go. I don't have to worry about boat positioning since I just got a boat but need to do an overhaul on it, but sometimes it's nice not to havta deal with someone else. If I'm crappie or bream fishing usually with someone just because it's more fun to me. Now if catfishing I always want to be with someone since it's more of waiting game and someone to talk to helps kill time, plus it's better to drink with someone while catfishing than alone.
  7. Here's something I found on Barometric Pressure awhile back. High Pressure Clear skies Fish slow down, find cover or go to deeper waters. Slow down lures and use baits more attractive to fish. Fish in cover and in deeper waters. Rising Pressure Clearing or improving Fish tend to become slightly more active Fish with brighter lures and near cover. Also fish at intermediate and deeper depths. Normal and Stable Pressure Fair Normal fishing Experiment with your favorite baits and lures. Falling Pressure Degrading Most active fishing Speed up lures. Surface and shallow running lures may work well. Slightly Lower Pressure Usually cloudy Many fish will head away from cover and seek shallower waters. Some fish will become more aggressive. Use shallow running lures at a moderate speed. Low Pressure Rainy and stormy Fish will tend to become less active the longer this period remains. As the action subsides, try fishing at deeper depths.
  8. Almost forgot but my son did reel his first one in last summer at the beach off the pier, just a little pin fish or as me and my pop call them king bait.
  9. I was taught when i was 3 by my dad and broke my first rod reeling one in at age 5 or 6. But my little boy is 2 and i bought him his first combo, an Ugly Stik Junior with Shakespeare reel, and I'm thinking bout trying him out this year. I gave him the bottom half of a broken rod, an old busted reel, and a fluke and taught him how to reel one in, give it a kiss, and trow it back.
  10. Here's one I found out today just thinking and trying. I like to keep little things like split rigs in small plastic zip-lock bags, and didn't know where to find any after i used what I had. So I got to thinking and got my wood burner out and some of my wife's sandwich bags and found out that if I run the wood burner across the bag at a steady speed it would cut it and seal the cut edge together with the heat. Works great for jig heads that come in a bag that doesn't reseal because they're in an open top bag.
  11. I use the deadstick method around fallen trees and brush. I'll put a freak/creature bait on drop it in a sunken tree and give about a 10 to 20 count, then I'll give it 3 or 4 twitches and if nothing hits I reel it in and try again. I have noticed that a bass will sit there and watch the freak bait and then hit it once it twitches. You will want a stout rod and strong line to do this in trees so you can just haul that big girl out.
  12. I see what you're saying Triton, there are some great colors that do not match anything in a body of water but I seem to have good luck with this when I fish a new area and I'm not getting bit.
  13. I was messing around and came across an article that said if you looked inside a bass eye you would notice that it looked like a humans eye. Apparently not only can they see colors but also see shades of colors. It also talked about how different colored water changes the color of everything underneath. It said in clear water things appeared blue so natural colors were best to use, in green water stained from ale things appeared a green color so greens were the best, brown water stained from mud things appeared red so reds were the best, and extremely stained water color wasnt much of a factor that vibration and sound were your best bet. It also said to remember this, lighter the day the lighter the lure and the darker the lure.
  14. I like that idea fluke. I put magnets in the bottom of my boxes, works good on little bream hooks but not so well if you have plenty in one compartment. I noticed that you had one of those dry moisture packs in your box. I have found that placing a little bit of rice in each compartment will also help inhibit the rust. just don't use instant rice because if it gets just a touch of water it swells quick, lol.
  15. I searched around this page when I first found it and found a lot of useful things. That's what convinced me to join this forum. I usually stay away from forums because of the most of the people, but this one seemed pretty well set. The grip idea works real great on a shaky head rig around the tail area.
  16. I honestly believe in matching the hatch. The best way to do this is looking for a school of minnows and try your best to match color and size. You can even take a bass for a meal and while cleaning and gutting just check the stomach and sometimes you will find a clue there. And something with an orange belly will usually work if you can't find anything.
  17. I have been searching the web for tips and tricks, that's actually how i found this site, on any thing from tackle box to fishing equipment. I found quite a few but I was just wondering if any of y'all had any. Like I said, anything from tackle boxes, tackle, rigs, equipment, rust prevention, and anything concerned with fishing. For example: Cut those foam pencil grips in half and place them on a rubber worm for a little extra flotation. Play around with placement to create a different look. A touch of super glue will keep them in place and if only a dot is used they remove fairly easy.
