  1. I fish a little private pond and the bass were sitting on the bank last week and wouldn't hit anything. Then I started throwing a wacky rigged Strike King Ocho and they just started to murder it. As for the big fish on the surface, they probably are grass carp. The pond I fish used to have two, one about 3' long and the other about 5' long, tried catching them but never had any luck.
  2. I still use all of these and others, sometimes I'll even pull out an old rooster tail. I say they're known as classics for a reason, they catch fish, period.
  3. Every so often I will. Me and a buddy found out that shell cracker love hardcore death metal on Lake Lookout.
  4. I'm going to start on a Jon Boat project and can't decide on a color to paint the outside. I will most likely do the carpet in a gray or other light color. The boat will be used for fishing only and will probably be used in shallow water most of the time. I was just wanting to get every one's opinion on a color that won't heat up too bad and will stay pretty stealthy.
  5. I always carry one but hardly ever use it, unless I'm catfishing.
  6. I've bought two of the bigfoots. The first one had one foot ripped off then both legs, bought the second and glued the legs in but still had one foot ripped off. I fixed the first with some chicken hawk worms and plan on fixing the second some may but for now I'm gonna try the Rage toads.
  7. It depends on my mood, the area I'm fishing, and if I'm using light or heavy line.
  8. I screw a HitchHiker into the nose of the fluke then put it o a 3/0 Gamakatsu finesse wide gap weedless hook and put a piece of tubing for trailer hooks on to keep the fluke from sliding off. It's called the stoopid rig and I fish it with jerks and twitches and will also jerk it and let it fall, catch most that way.
  9. I've always had success year round. Like priegel said, I wouldn't worry about temp as much as activity and depth.
  10. Just thought I would brag that my wife added to our family, and the huge family of bass fishermen, with a baby boy that weighed 9lbs 10oz. Now I have two sons to pass my knowledge and know how down to and to add to the future and preservation of the sport that we all love so much. Like I said, it's just a little bit of bragging but I personally think it deserves it.
  11. Deciding that it doesn't matter what people think or even if they laugh, experimenting with tackle is always a great idea. I used to only try new things or ways to fish when I was by myself but decided one day, why wait if the opportunity is there. I'll try using any fishing style, used for different species, for bass and will work baits in a completely different manner than they were designed for, if I had a feeling it would catch fish I would try fishing with my feet.
  12. I have'nt seen it affect the action at all.
  13. I actually stole that idea from Hank Parker, carrothead, so I guess he should get the real credit but I'll take it if you're gonna give it.
  14. I would buy one of each. I would even buy a hoodie if thy had them.
  15. I use a 5/0 weighted hook. I also slit the belly straight down the middle so it's easier to find center and if you use a smaller hook or one that's not a wide gap it will fit inside the belly.
  16. You can also use those foam pencil grips instead of earplugs. You can cut them down to decrease floatation.
  17. From what I've heard there are smallmouth in Lake Norman but this info could be false. I don't know for sure, not knowing much about smallmouth and never fished for any, but would like to know since I want to try picing it up next year when I get my boat ready to go.
  18. I pretty much know nothing about smallmouth but from my understanding we have them here in Lake Norman. This is from hear say but I've heard it from quite a few and read it a couple places.
  19. For right now I'm gonna have to say largemouth. I've never fished for smallmouth but hope to have my boat ready next year so I can get to out on the lake and give it a shot.
  20. I have a 6' M/L spinning rod and I use it for weightless soft plastics, small lightweight lures, and finesse fishing.
  21. I'm sorry to hear about your dad. I also have many great memories with my dad, and keep gaining more, and just hope I can give my son, or son's come this friday, half the memories and great times he gave me.

I use the Strike King Coffee Tubes. Started using them last year and had hits on them when nothing else would. I rig them t-rigged with a 3/0 off-set or tube heads.
  23. I picked up two new War Eagles at Wally World last week.
  24. I Have a 16' flat bottom Jon Boat. It's not running right now, needs a motor tune-up and new floor, but I got it for free from my dad.
