  1. Well its safe to say there aren't any lakes around you...so that limits your chances of Peacocks.... You said Northwest...is that around Honokaa? Not sure if any sportboats leave from there, best bet for dorado would probably be out of Kona.
  2. Since it says you're from Ventura I'm guessing you are talking Casitas? If so that use to be my home lake. Summer time you can get some bigger ones early in the morning in shallow or head out to 20-25 ft and drag jigs or small swimbaits.
  3. I hated having to maintain my gear as well as loaner gear...eventually got rid of the loaner stuff and let them use my stuff. Honestly who cares if it gets a little scratched up, it still catches fish.
  4. If you plan on T-rigging them I would go with the 4" for sure. I use them for punching/flipping...but mainly as a trailer on my jigs...great bait
  5. You also might consider going to a 7'3" or 7'6" rod to get more distance when tossing the plugs... I'm sure you can hit the BPS in Manteca and check out what htey have there
  6. I've recently switched from a fluke to a 4" Big Hammer and have done pretty decent. http://www.***.com/descpageSWMBIGHAM-BHSBT.html
  7. Anyone use them? Opinions? I was thinking about getting one, but seems kinda useless to only hold 18 jigs.
  8. texas rig the tubes.....
  9. yup they do work....I have more luck on the 6" vs the 8" hudds...the thing with swimbaits is that you need to be very persistent fishing them...a lot of guys will throw them all day and are stoked if they get a bite or two. keep at it and you will get a fish...
  10. that may as well be true...just didn't find anything special with them. If I want to fish a pseudo swimbait I will toss a basstrix or something. They really don't have a following out here on the west coast though....
  11. where are the hooks when you do catch the fish? Are they deep? If most of the hooks are deep and you are missing fish, I would guess the rod is too soft. If they are hooked barely in the lip, most of the fish you are missing are only taking the trailer...
  12. IMO they suck when you use them by itself....I rather just use a senko and catch more fish. I have found the two best uses for them are either a trailer on a spinnerbait or a chatterbait...
  13. i use spoons, tail spinners, ice jigs, etc out here in California quite a bit. They are very good in the winter as well as the summer. The number one thing with working spoons is having a good fishfinder or graph. You need to find the schools of baitfish and the bass will be around them. Once you find a school, just drop down a spoon and jig vertically. You need to watch your line very carefully on the drop, thats when a majority of the fish will hit. If you see your line twitch or stop falling unexpectedly set the hook. I like the Revenge Spoons, Crippled Herring, or some of the BPS spoons.

  15. I just picked up a curado E7 and was initially gonna put it on a Cumara (I've fished the combo before). Today I saw and handled a Zillion rod and liked the feel. It seems a little stronger than the cumara. Anyone match a Zillion/Curado together? Ya like it?
  16. i dunno about smallmouth but for LMBs...chartreuse shad, american shad, ghost minnow, aurora pro blue
  17. also try the lunker punkers (injection molded ones)
  18. i toss the aruku shad quite a bit...have had good success with the spooky shad in the 75 size
  19. yup the 6in hudd is durable...heck if you catch one 10 lber on it...honestly who cares if its trashed. I believe Spro is coming out with a 6" version as well
  20. oakleys IMO scratch to easily....yeah I'm hard on my glasses....I've moved to costas in the green mirror and love them. you will be surprised that the higher quality lenses definitely do make a difference
