The drag setting on your reel should allow slippage at 25 - 30% of actual line breaking strength with no more than 75% of maximum flex in your rod. This can be measured with a scale attached directly to the line on a rigged rod or indirectly using a plastic grocery bag filled with the appropriate weight. When using the indirect technique, lift the bag GENTLY with your rod.

Regardless of species of fish I set hook the same way by letting the rod do the work it was meant to do which is to cast the lure, set the hook, & fight the fish. Proper hook set by Roadworrier #1 Start with high quality, ultra sharp hooks. For most soft plastics I use XPoint or Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG Offset Worm Hooks. Set your drag properly (with a scale) considering line and rod ratings. #2 Use a "snap set" sometimes called a "quick set". When you detect a bite, lower your rod tip and QUICKLY reel down. Snap your wrists raising the rod without moving the reel position relative to your body. This will drive the hook home. DO NOT "double set", that will do more harm than good. #3 Keep your rod UP! (10 - 12 o'clock) and maintain CONSTANT pressure. NEVER give the fish any slack, NEVER. Make the fish fight the rod and retrieve line when you can.

Bass will related to structure in some form or another be it on the structure or over it; I think what was meant was the bass wouldn't be located on the structure itself. During the fall the shad will migrate into covers by following creek channels; creek channels are structure. Keep in mind not all bass will follow migrating shad but some will stay on off shore structure year round; just like some bass will spawn off shore never seeing a shoreline. Structure is a portion of the bottom that is different from the surrounding area, like bars, humps, creek-channels, riprap, and submerged points of land. A structure fishing situation consists of a structure, breaks, break lines and deep water. Breaks are things on the structure's bottom like stumps, rocks, weeds, logs, and bushes. A break line is a line or lines along the structure's bottom where there is a defined increase or decrease in depth, either sudden or gradual like the edge of a channel, hole or gully. There are other break lines too, like a weed line wall, a brush line, where two bodies of water meet which differ in temperature, color or water current.

You don't want to cast a jig in thick grass, flipping & pitching are better because they are vertical presentations; casting a jig is better suited in sparse grass and deeper water (15+). The shape of the jig head in thick grass will also make a huge difference in how clean the jig comes through grass.

It's a well know fact I'm a Cajun & Cajuns eat seafood of every type but with that being said I haven't keep any fish in over 5 years.

The Jig-N-Craw and deep water (15' +) structure 1) Make a long cast 2) Strip 3 or 4 arms length of line, this will assure a vertical fall 3) Count the bait down, 15' of water count to 20 to make certain the bait is on the bottom, do it in your head if need be 4) Pause a good 30 seconds after the bait reaches bottom 5) Lower your rod to the 3 o'clock position while reeling slack & feel for anything unusual 6) Move the rod from 3 o'clock to 1 o'clock in three motions (hops) 7) Pause 30 seconds & feel for anything unusual 8) Repeat 5, 6, & 7 all the way back to the boat 9) If at any time you feel a noticeable tap, tug, line tighten, heaviness, or see line movement. 10) Without hesitation drop the rod, reel the slack, and set the hook

USU still lost to 2 unranked teams, they are overrated, & they are maybe a top 10 team They gave up an average of 20.5 points per game, an average of 336.5 yds per game, 544 total yds passing, 129 total yds rushing in two games. Their defense is ranked 46th in total defense, now how do you get a #1 ranking?

I have a dozen buzz baits of various manufactures and a dozen Stanley Wedge spinner baits both are 3/8 & ½ oz.

Rocky banks will be warmer work them with crank baits early; then move deeper during the day with tube baits

If you notice the little ridge fore ground of this picture that was 12-15' of water, now look at the first tree line that's 14-17' and is where the bass moved to. You'll also notice a high line to my right that crosses the cove, the corner of the tree line and the high line was another spot holding bass. It's hard to tell from this photo but there is a creek channel just in front of the larger stumps behind the tree line.
