Spots where two creeks intersect or where a feeder creek intersects with the main river are areas experienced deep water anglers seeks. Inside the Y created by the intersection is where you want to anchor the boat in 12' to 18, cast deep with Texas Rigs, Jigs or Carolina Rigs to find the bigger bass. In winter months fish these areas with jigging baits in 20 to 30' of water

I would have to agree with ole George here 8-) I hard to beat a Rat-L-Trap bite Last year during pre-spawn in 5 hours a buddy & I caught 47 bass from 2 to 7 lbs, the paint was worn off the traps and our thumbs were raw.

Unfortunately most anglers can not take a one dimensional picture shown on their depth finder and turn it into a three dimensional picture in their brain. I believe the difference lies in the bodies of water The lakes in the southern states have more inaccessible areas than the lakes in California, this would account for some trophy bass never being seen by man. Not to say that a world record exists in Toledo Bend but look at its size 65 miles long, 5 miles wide, with over 1,200 miles of shore line. Compare that to Lake Castaic, Lake Miramar, Dixon Reservoir or other California trophy lakes. You are going to tell me it's not possible far a 20 lb plus bass to exist in Toledo Bend and never be seen by man? I also agree with Lane about the mind set of the California anglers vs. Texas anglers here's a perfect example. Each year the argument rages over which lake produces the most bass over 10 lbs and the contenders are Lake Fork and Allen Henry. Both lakes yearly certify more 10 lb+ bass than any two lakes in the state. But yet Texas Parks & Wildlife and the Louisiana's Department of Wildlife & Fisheries shock studies has proven more bass in the 10 lb+ range exist in Toledo Bend. Why are these bass not being heard about, for two reasons? First the anglers on Toledo who catch these bass do not want to give them to any lunker program wanting rather to keep them in their lake. Second is the size of the lake, Toledo gets very little pressure compared to it size.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the bass being caught are Florida strain? These fish were introduced into California in the late 50's or early 60's?
